Protests because of Celtic

189

According to their manager, Newco are doing just fine, better then fine, in fact, it’s just that Celtic are fabulous (my interpretation, not a direct quote).

He spoke in response to fan protests at their game against Kilmarnock.  Apparently, after “55” (cough) they took their eye off the ball.

Mick Beale has a point. Celtic are fabulous, Newco win their first Scottish Cup and reached a European final; overachieving by any measure. But fans cannot be placated when losing.

It’s easy to see the folly in others. The Newco board are far from the worst option the club has. Change may not be their friend. There are zero options for stopping Celtic short of another random season. This is due future fans need to get on board or there will be a lot of banners. Protests because of Celtic could become a regular fixture.

  1. Really don’t get the fixation with the scum, honestly. I can assure you no one hates them and their establishment pals more than I.

I reckon the best thing we can do is just IGNORE them.

I think there is a need and that need is to keep pointing the bias/cheating at every opportunity in the hope that , eventually, it will seep into the national conscience.

My only build on your argument would be to point out that with no real domestic challenge for 4 years then stepping up to winning in Europe against decent opposition was never going to be easy.

Likewise recruiting decent players in those early years post Huns liquidation to play in such a poor standard of competition is another factor.

Finally recruiting any manager to come in and compete with a Stephen Gerard infused challenge whilst following in the footsteps of Sinatra (Brendan) was never going to be easy. Lennon new the ropes and didn’t let us down for 8.

It maybe that keeping him for 9 and beyond was not correct. I would say that WITH THE BENEFIT OF HINDSIGHT I would concede to the anti Lawwell fanatics on that point.

  9. Its one thing to hate anything called Rangers, but who hates Peter Lawwell and Neil Lennon the most ?

Held on for a Glasgow Cup win. Well played Celts.

Adam Brooks had a 4th in the net, scrubbed for offside. We made a young team younger with three substitutions, then lost a goal to end at 1-3. Followed from the b club twitter account.

When you see all the big clubs in England and Europe where the teams are lining up before a game, invariably they are standing in a spacious area where there is room to breath.

Compare and contrast with Celtic Park where two narrow corridors converge and substitutes have to squeeze past teammates to get to the technical area.

We have to flatten and rebuild the South Stand to the same level as the other 3 stands. As it stands — pun intended — it is a disgrace and an embarrassment, especially on big European nights. Even the dressing rooms leave a lot to be desired.

I’d like to see similar, I think we should turn the pitch 90* and make the stadium 100K. The slope of the Celtic way could be turned into underground parking with the south stand built over the top of it. Big project but would allow expansion for the future.

    ———–

Fair point. What is a fact is that from the Jock Stein stand we looked across the pitch at the covered top Lisbon Lions stand.

Incidentally, the bhoys and ghirls in the lower Jock Stein stand renewed their season tickets year in year out during this time.

The same stand and supporters that some Celtic fans want to disperse as they endulge in a “take over” greater standing area.

  25. Paul has to write a new leader every second day. No matter what he writes the first 10 responders will introduce six new themes unrelated to the leader theme written by Paul (and/or his friends).

So why do people bother to pull him up because it is not an exclusively intra-Celtic theme? Why not respond to one of the other 5 or so themes that meet your approval? Why join in with the one you don’t like when you have the option of not responding or scrolling by or, far better, introduce a topic yourself?

How would you feel if a contributor only ever came on here to complain of one of your posts? Why treat the host so badly? If he has written something inaccurate, feel free to correct him. If his opinion offends you, feel free to explain why but as for, “Don’t ever talk about thems!”- don’t be daft!

If Paul were not to raise something about Rangers/Sevco then someone will – even in the course of a leader where he is talking about the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk.

They are of interest to us. We talk about them all the time. There is no holier-than-thou status to be gained from saying “I never talk about them”- even if that is true for you.

Other blogs have tried that line out that CQN talks too much of Rangers/Sevco but will then blithely award themselves a bye when they introduce the self same topic.

Far too much bitchiness between blogs and bloggers- talk about what you like- except racist and misogynist views and Paul’s other restriction – bad language.

And let Paul live or die by the same restrictions and allowances you give yourselves

  27. TOM MCLAUGHLIN on 7TH MARCH 2023 5:29 PM

I agree with most of that.

The South stand has 3 distinct construction years,

The old main stand of 1929 is still the load bearing walls inside the very core of the construction, as is the embankment/cycle track which was underneath the old front enclosure but also forms the slope for the wings of front stand of 1971. So the original facade is still inside the front door of celtic park. The 1986 expansion i have never really liked it is ugly but the old facade could be opened up to become a feature inside a new glass structure.

So, aye, lets build new, but dont knock it all down, lets reconfigure the layout.

Go for the “new celtic end” – all standing in the JS lower from corner to corner.

relocate dressing rooms and hosting space to the South West corner and use the tunnel there as an entrance to the park. Imagine running out in front of 12,000 standing supporters.

In that corner host the Kano Foundation, free gratis for ever, for a few hundred kids every game, as they do today, but with even more support. and closest to the players coming in and out.

Add the underground bus tunnel for vips, from london road new hotel car park to the south west corner.

then refurbish lower front stand, then upper stand, over two seasons.

The new roof should be pitched in a way to handle hundreds of solar panels to generate hot water and for powering the pie ovens. Several appropriate sized turbines around perimeters, in green and white and known as the celtic windmills which can be seen for miles around

The other corner vacated by Green brigade and the rest of the north curve, retain half the rail seats, but make it completely dedicated to the less abled supporters and their support members, make that world class experience, with its own parking behind the stand. all for blue (or green) badge holders

Build over the current main stand like Liverpool and several others now have done. Adding approx 18,000 new seats and two levels of hospitality suites and lounges.

Build a replica of the old pavilion at the North West Corner, a nod to the founders , but make it a visitor experience, a complete replica inside and out but serving food in a unique setting.

I could cost t up at around 200 million, but i would need someone in the business to really do the feasability study, if only Mad Mitch contructors was available.

3 years planning, financing and buidling, end with an 80,000 capcity like dortmund

    Think big or go home
