Pure, athletic, Thatcherism

935

It’s all politics.  Not actual politics, in the strict definition of the word, but clubs’ dealings with the SPFL and SFA is mostly about politically manoeuvring in the direction to win your argument.

Experienced political operators will tell you not to fight the same people on too many points; pick the important areas to win and take a few defeats on the chin.  Box the SPFL into a corner by not charging season ticket holders for entry into play-off matches, and you’re onto a sure win.  But all SPFL clubs are members of the SFA.

They all like being given their place.  If I wanted something important from the SFA, like exemption from the rule prohibiting directors of a liquidated club from subsequently becoming a club director, I’d concentrate on that and ask politely for permission to let season ticket holders into games.

But I realise there are different types of political animal.  The consensus political animal is effective in certain times, then there are those who have a self-righteous tone to rules.  It’s their way or the highway.  To paraphrase Bob Shankly, pure, athletic, Thatcherism.  Britain wasn’t ready for Thatcherism 30 years ago.  She won in 1979 and lost lots of votes second time around in ’83, but the Labour vote split.  The 80s were lean.  For some.

Scottish football is in for a period where a self-righteous entity will muster its forces.  The media coverage will reflect what we saw in politics in the 80s.  The consensus operators must stand firm and unite.

We can look to the club. Not sure they’ll fight our corner as much as we’d like.

Invariably we turn to each other – the fans. Not sure what the other CFC forums are like but CQN seems a somewhat rational place. Love it.

SFTB – I have a mini Glenfarclas 25 set by for it. Only 50ml but I cannae wait. Was saving it for the treble but heigh ho.

The wife, who is in fact a (lapsed) hun, has a bottle of champers in the fridge waiting a special occasion. I’ll talk her into drinking it the day Celtic win the league. She’ll no ken the reason tho. That’ll be my wee secret

  2. !!Bada Bing!! for me, given the environment we work in (as a Football club) we are surrounded by bastards

  3. Millibrand has just sunk his Vital Spark and Para Handy says its his short suicide note.

    Am afraid I agree.

Evening everybody. Spent the day stuffing myself with Russian/Ukrainian food.

Good to see a few Lynchian blasts as well as Macjay and Alfie Noakes.

The disgraceful mismanagement of Scottish football is there for all to see. It is due both to incompetence and bigotry. Incompetence is easier to prove than bigotry and therefore we should concentrate on the nonsense of Doncaster trying to give advantage to Rankers by ignoring the practice of Fifa and Uefa of playing vital matches at the same time and then wondering what the fuss was all about. In my opinion this was a saccable offence which would be easy to win.On the other hand the multiple blindness of McLean and co. in the semi-final might be difficult to prove as bigotry, although we should continue to press it. As the ‘Douggie -Douggie’ case proved ,it is difficult to maintain multible lying. I hope we continue to pursue this as we know that ,not only is telling the truth the right thing to do but it is also the easiest thing to do. Ask Dallas!

Milliband has done the right thing for HIS party – he isn’t there to inflate the importance of the SNP.

If Labour form a minority government, will the Nats vote with the Tories to bring them down?

Politics is never quite as black and white as it seems…

‘Milliband, would rather have a Tory government than work with the SNP .. ‘

It’s up to the SNP whether they support Labour or not.

If they won’t support Labour then they will in all probability be allowing a Tory government by default.

The leadership of the SNP would be happy with a Tory government.

The problem is their voters aren’t bright enough to work that out. They remind me a bit of the huns in that respect, being shafted by people they’ve invested so much hope in.

You cannot support someone who won’t accept your support.

If he is to be believed, tonight Milliband rejected support from the SNP.

In saying that just as Cameron was carrying about the skint letter, I believe that Miliband is carrying about the weasel worded formula that will allow him into Downing Street with the support of the SNP.

For weeks Jim Murphy has been peddling the line that seats lost to the SNP represents seats for Cameron.

He chooses to ignore that Scottish lib Dem seats lost to the SNP are seats lost by

  8. Thought Ed Milliband did well tonight.

Interesting how the narrative on him has changed over the last three weeks. He was initially being being tagged as weak and hopeless by the Tory part and Tory press. Not any more. Cameron has had to work an image change of his own through a dose of desperation.

Goooooooood night ,hope to catch you and the young yin at some point,

My mam knows I wont be visiting tomorrow night,:))))

  10. For those musical peeps, stumbled into a pub in Shoreditch last night and found a band called Freddie and the Freeloaders.

I’ve got to say, free entry notwithstanding, got to be one of the best bands I’ve heard live in a number of years.

At the end they announced they’re playing Glastonbury, can’t say I was surprised.

Look out for them, they’re great value with or without entry fee.

If he was doing it for the benefit of his party, why is he condemning it to another five years in opposition

  12. Milliprat just eliminated his chance of being PM. For a man who has never had a JOB, that is not entirely surprising.

  13. If Labour wants to form a minority government, it will have no choice but to work with other Parties, no matter what they say now.

Maybe when all is said and done, Labour is conducting a ‘Haud me back campaign’.

  16. If he was “doing so well” he kinda spoiled by almost falling off the stage. Not your leadership type of guy. He has problems walking in a straight line :)

  17. It must be something in the water. Thought I heard a DUP wallah hinting that they might support Labour.

  18. i’m with you, brother – i am lucky enough to have a house and family. what’s that you say? you’re brother and you almost drowned?

  19. The SNP have said they won’t prop up a Tory government.

Why the SNP or anyone else would want their high priced support is a mystery.

    Help..Any German Based CQN’rs..

I am looking to send My Oldest Daughter a Letter/Package to Berlin from Oz..Via Poste Restante or Deutsche equivalent..

She will only be there the 10/11 of May..

Is 10 Days enough for a letter to get there..? UK Normally 4-7 Days..

Any other info Re; Poste Restante would be great..

Want to Post it in next 3-4 Hours..

    Thanks in Advance..

    ——————————————

I’ve been trying to get some info for you and I think if you posted today she would receive it on time. If it gets to the UK in 4-7 days it will definitely get to Germany on time. My only concern is that because it is coming from a non-EU country the Zollamt may acquire it to check it’s contents if it is a parcel and if it is subject to tax? Germans like their tax.

Awe_naw would probably know more about that. Post Restante is available in Germany I believe, but possibly only for letters but I could not swear to that.

Sorry, I can’t be of more help.
