Raft of reasons to start Bolingoli against Leverkusen

188

Like you, no doubt, I could see Boli Bolingoli far enough last summer.  His actions kicked off a series of mishaps that destroyed Celtic’s title challenge by October.  Ange Postecoglou has been clear with his intentions towards the player, despite a raft of injuries, Ange has played youths and a right back on the left, with Bolingoli available for selection.

The 26-year-old remains on the payroll.  Unless we pay him off, like we did with Olivier Ntcham, or manage to convince someone to take him, a feat we were unable to do during the recent transfer window, he will remain at Celtic for another two years.

He played Champions League football last season and Europa League campaigns the years before that, there are too few in the squad with anything like that experience to call on.

Josip Juranovic’s hamstring may feel fine by Thursday morning, but honestly, would you be happy putting that muscle to the test, knowing we travel to Pittodrie on Sunday?  I like Adam Montgomery.  He is fast and can dribble and has real potential in the game.  Exposing him to too many difficult games, though, can have a negative effect.  I would rather both Adam and Josip were rested and ready for Sunday.  For a whole raft of reasons, Bolingoli should start against Leverkusen on Thursday, he is experienced enough and I think he owes us one.

I was aware he had contracted Covid but never for one second doubted that he would pull through.

Garry unfortunately was influenced by the Conspiracy Theorists & refused the jab.

He regularly posted on the subject.

I sincerely wish that people would not post such stuff on the Blog..

However we all as individuals have to take personal responsibility for our actions.

Today I’m angry as well as sad,

I don’t give a fecking hoot about Bolingoli or Bayer Leverkusen, this Blog deserves to be a Tribute to one of our own.

  4. @Corkcelt”

I don’t know how much you were informed at the time of your post ….

Maybe not the best comment on a mans health status without the full facts???

  5. not on the blog last night or today so did not know the sad news until now.

the tributes, stories and heartfelt comments both here and on sentinel celts tells us much of the high esteem Garry was held in.

I have met many fine CQNers, in fact never met a bad yin.

I bitterly regret never actually having met Garry. Bad on me, we only live a bridge apart, and for a period I was in Clydebank or Duntocher every week, I should have made the effort.

We shared many a nights moonhowling and laughs on here. Music and stories of people and places.

He did tell me, you should meet Macjay , he is a good guy in real life, and I should have done as well.

Can you be friends with someone you never even met ? I think I can say aye, Garry Duncan was friends to everyone on here.

This is absurd, really dafy, But I always assumed Garry was a Delenay because he mentioned Jimmy as being his great uncle.

Only now is this sad way to I find out his real name.

There are several CQNers I now am going to make a point of meeting, life really is too short.

    God bless him.

  8. No Pete I’m not, Garry was a force of nature, a lovable mad Republican Fenian

I am just sad & angry that he is gone taken by this horrible Covid.

  9. Never knew Garry but conversed often with him, we talked often about Kirkton Ave where I worked and he grew up.

He spoke well about Macjay who had vastly different politics from him but like most of us a great love for the leather belts.

Didnae know about his aversion tae the jab, that’s a choice but some want tae keep that tae themselves.

So sad that he was shocked at the passing of Macjay as they had socialized shortly before his untimely passing, hopefully they are up there having a wee blather about the ‘tic.

  15. Big Georges Fan Club - Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar on

Just logged on and can’t believe that Garry has passed away – I just can’t take that in.

Wee BGF loved DD – he’ll be devastated but certainly not to the extent of Garry’s own family.

Heard on here just a couple of weeks ago that he was unwell, but I just expected him to come back on in short-time and give us his craic again.

Genuinely saddened to hear this – such a chilled, smiling dude – loved a doobie :-)) – Celtic through and through.

Hail Hail Garry – so sorry to see you pass on.

  16. BSR

Condolences on the loss of your friend, Andy McMahon.

Prayers said for those who survive him.

    RIP Andy.

  17. My condolences to DD’s family and friends. I phoned Cathac’s brother in Majorca about his death. He was shocked like everyone else, particularly as he had met him only quite recently, with Macjay.

    BOBBY MURDOCH’S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

Sitting here numbed by this morning’s bombshell. Devastated to hear of the death of my great pal Garry. Such a force of nature, that man,one who could light up a room without using the switch on the wall.

Was it really only a month ago that he was the star turn at the hoot? Only a month ago that his son Ryan-an absolute diamond, just like his Dad?-turned up to complete the double act?

To meet Garry was to like him,it was impossible not to. I’d actually written a much better comment than this, but it flew off into the ethernet! To know him though, was to love him. That was just a given. As I said, numbed. My thoughts, all our thoughts and prayers, are with those he loved, and so obviously loved him back.

Terrible news about our chum , Garry , a wonderful man , dad and grandad .

I have known Garry for many years , seeing him at half 5 mass in Corpus Christi church in Knightswood , both of us having our first European trip on the Glasgow University CSC to Amsterdam in 1982 then the following year we became members of the Lisbon Lions CSC.

My favourite memory of Garry is the game against Nottingham Forest . The Lions bus left Glasgow around 8am and it was freezing . Garry had the full Celtic strip on. When we arrived in Nottingham it felt even colder than it was in Glasgow. Garry still wasn’t put off. He was still walking about the city centre in the hoops , sort of Broonie style , unperturbed by how cold it was.

God bless you Garry Duncan for being the parent, grandparent and fine man you were .

  21. JVR/LYNOTT.

Garry indeed talked plenty of his travels on the glasgow uni bus.thanks for sharing them Celts.

A few times post midweek game we met up with those who remained on it in the blane valley.

So many joyous hugs, celebrating a Celtic victory.

I am at a loss for words.@lionsroar your burger after Tam rogic won our treble.@scaniel talking of pink st.getting Jorge cadetes sister in a pic as we all sang his song .Epic times they all were.@pog Garry was funny tellin(blaming you for eating a dinner i didn’t order -he thought it was mine lol.) Tip of the iceberg.

    Garry was a Celtic man.

  22. Like everyone on here I am saddened to learn of Garry’s death. He contributed so much to this site and was very proud of his origins and family. I once asked him if he was related to Delaney of Denmark. He was not sure.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this sad time. I will pray for him at Mass tomorrow. God grant eternal rest to his soul.

Did Andy McMahon work in the DHSS at a time?

    GGH.

I know you asked BSR but just in case, he doesn’t see it.

Yes, Andy worked in Provan, Patrick and Northgate ( maybe more) but those 3 for sure.

  24. @JVR i walked hitched to that game 45.50 miles???

was sitting looking at the young Paul miss…..at the death

Never thought of saying to garry he must of been young??

    i was 30 ish

  25. I never had the privilege of meeting Garry Duncan, and from the unanimous, warm eulogies on here, that was my great loss. Unanimity on CQN is almost unheard of, so the individual who is the subject of it is rare indeed. I would like to pass on my sincere sympathies to Garry’s family, friends and all CQNers who personally knew him. A philosopher once said that people die twice, the first time when they pass away, and the second time when the last person to remember them passes away. In Garry’s case, that will be a very, very long time.

    Thanks.

I didn’t know Andy myself, but know some friends of his.

    RIP Andy.

  27. A sad morning for the Celtic community, so wanted to pop on and post my thoughts and condolences to his many friends on here.

Meeting Garry and his son, Ryan, was one of the highlights of my last trip home. Although we chatted often online, I only got to meet him the one time. But that was enough to know I had met a special and unique guy.

Although I am not a smoker, I did promise him that, if he ever made it to Jamaica (after Celtic Park, his second spiritual home), I would fly down and join him for a toke or two. Sadly, that wont happen now. But, my old Bob Marley albums, and even Gerry Cinnamon (to whose music DD introduced me) will have an extra level of poignancy now.

I will miss our chats, and his music.

Ryan, if you are looking in, condolences to you and your family. And to all of his CQN friends who are saddened by his loss.
