Ralston, rarity and mystery

166

One of the many mysteries of football is why Anthony Ralston (now 24) was so far out the picture in the latter stages of Neil Lennon’s tenure.  Kris Ajer, Moritz Bauer, Jeremie Frimpong and Jonjoe Kenny were all selected at right back ahead of him.  When he was brought back into the fold by Ange Postecoglou his talent was clear to see.

He had earlier emerged in the procession of full backs that also contained Kieran Tierney (26) and Calvin Miller (25).   I had high hopes for all three early on, although only Kieran went all the way to the top.  Calvin is at the peak of his career and playing for Falkirk, while full Scotland international Anthony signed a new four-year contract at Celtic yesterday.  When that contract concludes, if he is still with us, 11 years will have passed since his first Celtic league appearance, and he will still be only 29 years old.  Perhaps not quite triggering the testimonial bandwagon.

Alongside Callum McGregor and James Forrest, he is a rare breed, someone who the club developed as a youth who went on to compete at Champions League level.  He fits one of the four most difficult slots to fill in the Uefa squad list, so is well worth Celtic investing to retain and further develop him.  He is also a Bellshill-born Celtic defender, which is quite a tradition to follow.

    Spot-on!

All VAR is doing for me is paying more incompetent SFA officials more money than before VAR was introduced l. More jobs for the (Masonic) boys is all it is.

Withholding payments would be a good starting point.

However, I doubt any other club has the balls to do this, including Celtic. Seems no one likes to upset the Huns.

  5. That decision last night?.Just why?.Was it required to help them win?.No.Were they struggling,?Far from it against a Livi team, denuded of its best players?.No.So again, why?.Why would the officials, open themselves up to the ridicule, and incompetent flak, for no obvious reason?.Surely they could keep decisions like last nights for when its really needed, like Saturdays phantom foul on Tav,with points most certainly on the line.but seems not.

Its only one of two things gross incompetence,or blatant unthinking, cheating.Meanwhile the clubs pay for the pleasure, and Golum, happily is free to Ref our game at the weekend,

    AN DUN,

If it favours them, no such decision will be made, as we all well know. Celtic should get together with the likes of the Motherwell and Livingstone chairmen, whose teams were both lately cheated and demand their monies’ worth from VAR. If not, withhold their payments.

Totally agree guys. We don’t need to make any pointed criticism (i.e. name specific instancies favouring a specific club), the clubs should just point out that the evidence at the moment shows that VAR is not working as it should be/intended so until they can iron out the ‘teething troubles’ they, the clubs, are withdrawing the funding for the failing service.

Ain’t going to happen though, is it?

    Referee:William Collum

Willie will be all out to show that he is not a referee who favours the Old Firm. Celtic will be denied and Motherwell treated.

  8. Toss up last night who was the poorest team in Italy.First half dire, but Lazio eventually beat a very off form Torino,2-0.Weekend they play away to Milan. We must be aiming for 3 points in this one at home.

  9. IT JUST DOESN’T STAND UP

I know the perceived view, the Celtic line, is that we are weekly on the end of blatant cheating by officials and not a day, or, a blog article, goes by without a detailed version. I know full well that there are times when the kind of decision that goes against us beggars belief – e.g. the oft-cited ICT handball on the line at Hampden.

However are we really saying that day in, day out, week in, week out, season after season, we are being systematically cheated by ‘Orange’, ‘Masonic’ referees and backed up by all the authorities in Scottish Football?

Because if we are, I’m afraid that the facts don’t seem to bear this out.

Since the turn of the century there have been 72 domestic honours up for grabs in Scotland

    24 Titles

    24 Scottish Cups

    24 League Cups

Celtic have won 39 of these:

    17 Titles

    11 Scottish Cups

    11 League Cups

    That’s 39 out of 72 – 54%

We have won 6 trebles in that time, including a quadruple treble, one of those trebles included an undefeated season.

If one were to stand up in a court of law to present a case of systematic cheating against us, one would be laughed out of court as soon as the above statistics were read out.

If there is an organized malevolent regime against us, it must be directed by fools, and be regarded as the biggest conspiracy failure in sporting history.

  10. Surely you’d have to list all the trophies we didn’t win? And how many of them involved strange decisions by the officials.

It’s very hard to prove cheating but there’s a mountain of evidence that proves the poor standard of officials, the inconsistency of punishment of said officials, the inconsistency of which officials are promoted through the ranks, etc..

  11. AYE,

and think of how much more we would have won if we had not been cheated out of it.

    cup semi finals in particular.
