Ralston, rarity and mystery

166

One of the many mysteries of football is why Anthony Ralston (now 24) was so far out the picture in the latter stages of Neil Lennon’s tenure.  Kris Ajer, Moritz Bauer, Jeremie Frimpong and Jonjoe Kenny were all selected at right back ahead of him.  When he was brought back into the fold by Ange Postecoglou his talent was clear to see.

He had earlier emerged in the procession of full backs that also contained Kieran Tierney (26) and Calvin Miller (25).   I had high hopes for all three early on, although only Kieran went all the way to the top.  Calvin is at the peak of his career and playing for Falkirk, while full Scotland international Anthony signed a new four-year contract at Celtic yesterday.  When that contract concludes, if he is still with us, 11 years will have passed since his first Celtic league appearance, and he will still be only 29 years old.  Perhaps not quite triggering the testimonial bandwagon.

Alongside Callum McGregor and James Forrest, he is a rare breed, someone who the club developed as a youth who went on to compete at Champions League level.  He fits one of the four most difficult slots to fill in the Uefa squad list, so is well worth Celtic investing to retain and further develop him.  He is also a Bellshill-born Celtic defender, which is quite a tradition to follow.

  1. Lazio sneaking a 1-0 tonight v Torino without really controlling the game. That will easy the pressure a bit before they go to Milan then come here.

  2. Poor officiating gives rangers the lead then as Livingston really start to believe rangers get a goal against the run of play.

  3. Can’t see the game but looking at the stats you wouldn’t believe Livingston were on the park. Not even a shot on target. You could pick 11 bhoys off here who could do that. Think the fouls might be higher than 4 though

  4. Just watched the shove before Sevco`s first goal and I am left in no doubt whatsoever. The Old Firm get everything.

  5. BBC sport Scotland …pension top up club for ex Rangers players ….NOT WITH MY MONEY ….don’t pay the TV Licence 👍

  6. Was that not exactly the same result and scoring pattern as their league game at Mordor? Nothing suspicious there then. Move on.

  7. Huns v Hearts shock. First out so first use of the pitch maybe? If you tried to write this stuff no one would believe you.

  8. someone posted a while back that that wee weirdo Collum, lost out financially when he was “barred” from Ibrox (reffed less SPL games as a result). Anyone know if that was true ?

  9. Imagine Celtic were the weekly beneficiaries of Refs confirmation bias , especially as blatant as we have witnessed over recent seasons …would you not be embarrassed and lose interest!?..trying to visualise taking my grandson to the game and telling him we are guaranteed to win because the fix is in and always is !?…they really are a shallow sad and pathetic football team and bunch of supporters …pitiful

Been saying same for years, but not as well as you just did

  10. Even Tory MP Caroline Nokes ,agreed with Adam Boulton, that GB News was as bad as Russia Today, and should also be shut down.

  13. Paul 67,

Delighted that Anthony Ralston got his new contract. I feel he has regressed slightly over the period, but hopefully this is the motivation he needs to kick on and reach the heights I think he is capable of.

On a cold, wet, windy night up in Dingwall or wherever I would want Tony in the trenches.

    HH.

  14. No, their fans firmly believe that they don’t need the help of the officials. They are the “establishment” team, that’s where the “help” comes from, por cierto.

    R.I.P. GARRY.

I used to enjoy Garrys Posts on here.

  16. Good morning all from grey nae black skied Garngad.

AT thanks for reminding us of our dear friend Garry (Delaneys Dunky).

I often think of the times as kids growing up in Knightswood we would go over for Garry (as he stayed in the 4 in a blocks) for him to come out and play football. I can see him running about playing with us.

Then later on bumping into him with his pals and mine (as we went different ways) in pubs etc.

He was the 1st person I talked to on here after lurking for years as I followed his posts and deciphered who he was.

Then meeting him a couple of times before games.

    Sorely missed.

    God bless Garry

  17. Livingston chief executive Dave Black admits Rangers’ hotly disputed opener against his side is tough to stomach as he took aim at VAR after his club were left aggrieved.

The Lions supremo vented on social media as he rued the video replay system not overturning Willie Collum’s on-field decision to allow Abdallah Sima’s opener. The visitors were adamant the winger had pushed Jamie Brandon to the Ibrox turf during the 4-0 Viaplay Cup quarter final win for Michael Beale’s side. And Black raised his concerns with clubs paying for VAR while having to withstand what he believes was a blatant error by the match officials in the defeat against Rangers.

    ……….

COLLUM was the REF and NICK WALSH was on VAR.

    Blatant cheating…..Clear as Day.

In the game last weekend, the REF ( MUIR) Ruled that the Motherwell player had ” Fouled” TAVPEN, which DENIED Motherwell a goal scoring opportunity…then last night we have this further continuing CHEATING by Officials to ALLOW the Huns SIMA AWAY WITH A blatant push.

    Im sick of this.

Good morning all from Govanhill. I’ll be raising a glass to the memory of my pal Garry Duncan on the second anniversary of his passing. Hail Hail Garry.

  19. I ndil chuimhne Garry Duncan/Delany’s Dunky a d’eag dhá bhliain ó shin inbound.

  20. Every so often there’s a decision that goes in their favour that is so blatantly wrong, that’s it’s simply impossible to put it down to incompetence alone. Last night was one such occasion.

The VAR ( was it Walsh? ) should find himself involved in league 1 football for a few weeks.

There should be consequences for the officials when decisions as bad as last night’s happen.

  21. AN DUN,

If it favours them, no such decision will be made, as we all well know. Celtic should get together with the likes of the Motherwell and Livingstone chairmen, whose teams were both lately cheated and demand their monies’ worth from VAR. If not, withhold their payments.
