  1. Here’s a question. Who is right? A player where he feels most comfortable playing. Where he feels most effective. Or,

Where a manager thinks he needs him?

    Ask Brendan Rodgers and McLeish.

  2. glendalystonsils on

No doubt one of our problems has been the inability to keep a reasonable proportion of our players fit for any length of time. We may have a very bloated squad but we only have a comparatively thin layer of quality at the top end . IMO we need to solve both problems to make progress.

  4. I know we have a lot of players not fit,and looking at Brendan Rodgers he knows the players he has sent out,a few of them are not up to it,and he looks if he has had enough,so would I especially working under this present board,I hope that the real Celtic Supporters on the board, buy out Lawell and Desmond’s shares ,that pair are the real problems,at Celtic Football club.

    GDT,

think bringing in players who have not featured much is our biggest problem, Gamboa, no played in a real game for months, what was expected? Kouassi no played a real game in months, what was expected?

I will say after tonight I think N’Cham is over rated, look quality against Scottish shite, rarely makes pass marks against better than Scottish. Passing and retention woeful when left to his own devices.

My view is somewhere in the middle, I can see both sides, it comes from years of middle management and self employment, the consensuses on here is the board can do no wrong, this is un elected people who contribute the sum total of feck all to the club but take out a heap, what they take away from the club could well pay a decent wage to many who deserve it, aye the anti capitalist in me is coming out, we need someone like Pedro, even tho I disagree with how he does his job, the rest of the board are a waste of space and money, if anyone on here can tell me what the give to the club in a positive way I will never ever say anything against them again, I honestly mean that.

As for the transfers, I believe he has been given a remit of what every manager has been given, buy cheap in the hope of selling for profit, fine if your ambition is domestic dominance, a waste of time if you have any euro ambitions.

I do accept that a fair few haven’t been up to the mark, or pish if you prefer, assuming he scouted and wanted them, I am not 100% convinced as yet.

    Switching gears for a moment…

did anyone see the Barca – Inter game this week?

Barca has a free kick …. the wall jumps, so the Barca player hits the free kick under the wall …

an Inter player behind the wall lies down to block the free kick from going under the wall … genius! dont know why others haven’t thought of that before.

no matter how long you have been playing or watching this game, there is alwyas somethingg to learn

ON didnt look great tonight, but few did … not sure I agree about ON being over-rated … a Ferrari engine is a good engine, but it may not fit into a Volvo chassis …

(which is not a shot at Volvo’s … I drive one)

I thought we looked best when the three Frenchmen were together … there was more fluency about our game… he and MD seemed to have an understanding … he seemed to know where MD would be… not sure he has that with others on the team…

Scottish football is different from most of the football played on the continent … players may be good, but may not fit in with the style of game here ….

  13. As manager of Liverpool and Celtic, Brendan has managed 18 Champions League Group Stage games. He has won 2, Ludogorets and Anderlecht. As Celtic manager, he has managed 3 Europa League Group Stage games and won 1, a last minute victory at home to Rosenborg.

His successor at Liverpool, Klopp, played 8 of his own signings in their midweek over Red Star Belgrade, in his quest to go one better than their Champions League runner up position last year.

Brendan has made 20 signings. I can’t imagine how much worse we would be if we played 8 of them at one time. Something is seriously wrong with our player identification and signing strategy, and something sadly awry with our defensive tactics, particularly away. We had a few missing tonight, but Leipzig rested 8 players, including international forwards for Germany and Denmark, and coasted through the game. If they all return in two weeks, realistically we haven’t a prayer.

When we were turned out by AEK, the chat was “The Europa is more our level.” It is not. Today, as in Salzburg, we were a sad lot, devoid of skill, speed, talent, inspiration, penetration or threat. A once proud Celtic Club were happy to finish no worse than 2-0 down to a side formed way, way back in 2010. Just demoralizing.

According to BBC report , RBL “fielded a near second string line up”

The report does not mention our much depleted lineup.

Can I assume this is a typographical/factual honest mistake rather than biased journalism?

Shortbread revelling in Celtic defeat while lauding StevenGerrardsRangers for remaining unbeaten at home. Not mentioning their failure to beat a team who have just sacked their manager or that they are in a group with three teams with an average league position of eleventh.

  17. Rob McLean was an utter embarrassment, i don’t think I’ve ever heard anything quite like that. At one point, the ball was played down the line, the centre back comes over and takes the ball from Morelos, like taking candy from a baby, McLean says ‘Morelos proving a real pest again’. Eh? Then after the Huns being chased for the first 15 of the second half, McLean says ‘going through a wee sticky spell here’. The constant fawning was incredible, hard to believe this was the same guy i complained about to BT last year for his utter bias against us.

  18. Hope was the only thing that would have seen this movie script change but not even that ,with some a sprinkle of defiance from Paul67, could. Brendan Rodgers has all but surrendered a Europa challenge when reliant in the already unreliables Gamboa, Kouassi, Simunovic and a lesser extent Ryan Christie.

Legless Lustig had to come on for his Euro shift at half time, Simunovic not for the first or last time buckled under only his own weight, Christie was O.K. but Cristian Gamboa we already know couldn’t displace Mikael in a bath. The rest played much to form , which at best means you still won’t trouble a Bundesliga side away from home any time soon.

Behind the couch doesn’t work either, even if you wait for half an hour and think its safe to come out, we’ve tried that for years, the magnificent away support sang their hearts out, but even they cannot bridge the financial gap between Parkhead and and Leipzig, any other European biscuits tins.

Celtic’s enviable stars Olivier Ntcham, and Keiran Tierney and the lonesome Edouard raised their games, Christie put in a good shift but injuries and the lack of spend was bound to catch up on Celtic in Germany, when the Greek and Austrians have already scalped Brendan’s deficient squad.

This was no digrace or embarrassment some cynics feared and had Ntcham scored near the end 2-1 would have been a reasonable result who’ve already lost by the same margin, in a more important tournament at present back in Kilmarnock.

Hope we’ll be better placed injuriously, by the time Brendan’s depleting squad is locked in, to take the Red Bulls by the horns, for the home legs under the flashing disco lights at Celtic Park where points should be salvaged.

I thought McGregor played best, as he often does away in Europe, and looking forward to seeing him romp round Murrayfield, as the whipping bhoy turned super hero, in the perilous life of Celtic stardom, that’s already seen Brendan Rodger’s nose get bigger, his frame grows smaller, and his teeth get whiter,.

Tough watching our regulation two goal defeat away from home tonight.

To our supporters who say it doesn’t matter; then sorry it does.

Roll on Sunday. But we should reflect that our financial clout compared to Hearts is massive. Our wage bill is more than 7 times what they pay.

If the excuse in Europe is financial, then it stands to reason thst domestic success is guaranteed !!!

    Sorry guys, just pi@@ed off.

    MIT,

your welcome to your opinion but tonight was for me, the decider, he had as far as I’m concerned a nightmare, then again I may have been over sensitive after he started failing to complete passes and never noticed how many he did make. but when there was no pressure and he’s giving away possession and shy’s while players are standing scratching their baws waiting for a kick at the baw I’m inclined to loose faith. So apparently either he or I have a problem with concentration, Celtic by numbers can probably put this one to bed.

This display was not a one off for Ntcham. His attitude and concentration stinks at times , as shown by his sending off at Thistle. I counted 3 times tonight he put a short , simple pass out of play to give away possession when we really needed to keep hold of the ball

  25. Ah classic CQN revisionism again tonight. Coupled with classic complaining about evidence of Scotland’s racism.

    Are you all serious?

    Haven’t you been paying attention?

The Celtic board love your role as plucky underdog (Good for business) and love appeasing the powers that be.

What on earth are you complaining about? The Celtic board pocketing bonuses whilst screwing up? Scotland being racist and putting you at the back of th3 bus?

I am afraid I only see two solutions:

there is my option ….II dont give the B’s any money, and then I dont get so upset….

or the second option is to meet up with Delaney’s Dunkey before the games, have a wee smoke, get irie, and then you wont be so upset, even if you have surrenedered your hard-earned money …
