The Guardian did an excellent piece on Wednesday on how referees in various European territories would view the penalty box wrestling of the Juventus players. In short, there is a variance in how these offences are punished. Who knew?
Juventus knew. I hear they watched four videos of referee Alberto Undiano Mallenco ahead of the Celtic game.
You have to admire their thoroughness. They had a plan to combat Celtic and needed to know if the referee would let them away with it. Gone are the days when someone at Juve would simply pick up the phone and ‘ask’. The danger from Celtic was known, illegal holding would nullify this danger and watching a few videos established what players would get away with.
It’s no longer sufficient to scout your opponents, if you want an edge in this game, scout the referee too.
Every day’s a school day.
I hear from a good contact that a journalist who recently departed the media for a job in the lower leagues once wanted to be a bit of a Jungle Jim. Apparently he was keen to ditch his industry for a job at Celtic back in the 90s. What an escape!
On Friday 1 March the Lisbon Lions will be at the Kerrydale Suite providing commentary and answering questions on their magnificent European Cup final win in 1967. This has never happened in 46 years since that game, to say it is a unique opportunity fails to tell the whole story.
The event is part of our 125 4 125 campaign – central to reinvigorating the charitable spirit which is part of the club we love. It will be a family occasions, tickets are available at £10 for adults and £5 for children. The night has been organised by several fans working in conjunction with the people at Celtic Charity, so please do your best to support this great occasion. Individual tickets or tables are available, details here.

been absent for a while, unlikely to have been missed but there you go. I have been reading the blog regularly over the last 6-8 weeks and like many on here we have been gestating until the arrival of Juve on Tuesday.
Like a well anticipated and yearned for day, Tuesday came and went, and guess what ,we are all still breathing , hopefully, a little chastened but a lot wiser. I was not at the game but had arranged to be at my lucky hostelry ,on my lucky seat, watching on my lucky screen. Well that did feck all good, because we were beated by a good team despite our performance being good if not excellent.
The current focus of navel gazing and looking for answers from other people does not wash with me. KC was foolish to go public with his comments. I once laid into a team mate after a match where he had been sent off for head butting, helping us to a 1-0 defeat. Guess what ? he launched a few butts and punches in my direction and order was restored after the storm had subsided. Things were never the same after that, so that`s a concern.
Secondly we have another huge game coming up against the same opponents, this time we will have no excuse for not being aware. There is a real danger we could restore our reputation on such a night, that should be the goal. Let Uefa do what they do best…. insert funny line here…
We should be doing what we do best, playing for the reputation of our club and keeping the Celtic dream alive. The dream is always the same, do your best and do it in the right way, the Celtic way. Anyone who does not believe in such a thing is the poorer for that. We have a lot to play for in the next 3 months , any other club in Scotland and 90% of English clubs would love to be where we are.
We are Celtic , sometimes we win, sometimes we get a kick in the teeth, a bit like life really.
Hail! Hail!

Well, he has been spoken to by NFL.

CQN MYSTERY.
Where does Kevj go when he’s off oot?
I would say that his wife won’t allow him to smoke in the house hence the ‘of oot’ every 20 to 30 minutes, it’s typical of a man that’s browbeaten by the wife who won’t allow any smoking in the house..
of oot.
sixtaeseven – Yup, if Juve had played us off the park and won 5-0, I honestly would not complain. I certainly didn’t post a lot when AC Milan beat us, or Barca outplayed us at this stage before. This reminds me of the Porto game. Porto were the better team, but they didn’t have the beating of us, it was gamesmanship/cheating, whatever you want to call it, that got them the win in the end.
I don’t have much hope in a good response from UEFA, I expect something along the lines of ‘the referee’s decision is final’ but with more words. But well played by Celtic for asking the questions, as a fan, thats what I wanted to see happen. Depending on the response from UEFA, that will impact how much attention I pay to their competition in future, which hopefully their sponsers will look at. (Not me in particular of course, but the more it goes on, that only the big teams from the big countries are getting through, then the fans from smaller countries, of which there are many, will pay less and less attention.)

Bit of help required here Bhoys,
Does anyone know John Savage who will be competing on MM tonight? If so can anyone advise if he is up first, second or when?
The reason I ask is that myself and the missus spend Friday evenings competing against each other in Mastermind. She takes the questions of two contestants and I take those of the other (no need to point out how sad my life has become thanks). Problem is, we must choose contestants before we know the subject matter of their questions.
At the moment I hold a slender if unlikely lead which I am desperate to protect. So much so that I am prepared to seize whatever advantage, no matter how sneaky, the good Lord deems fit to provide.
Any help appreciated.

So Chuckles has sent some letters to both the Prime Minister and First Minister.

He obviously does not care about FIFA banning club’s were there is political interference.
What happened to that that new kit deal and shirt sponsorship he was going to announce last week?

To be honest, I never watch any European games if the Celts are not involved – except maybe – grudgingly – the CL final.
In fact I don’t watch any EPL games either.
I used to go along to watch PSG with my boy (I’ve lived here about 30 yrs) – but I was just going through the motions to please him. He has since converted to Celtic, btw.
Don’t even watch Scotland games (at one time I never missed going to a single game at Hampden).
I love the fitba, but I just watch the Celtic.
Estorilbhoy,
I’m aiming for some Rubentus style penalty box closeness later in the evening ;)

It’s like everything else associated with Greengo’s financial agenda ……. He doesn’t give ‘two monkeys’ about zombies2’s reputation or future……he knows ‘time’ is running out and he needs to keep the fans putting money ‘into his pot’ …….. He’ll know exactly when he is going to ‘jump ship’ …….
Injuries aside, I am beginning to think that young James Forrest has lost his way somewhat. Tues night may have been the biggest game he will ever take part in yet he seemed to play with no urgency whatsoever. No one can play their best every week but he definitely lacked application. Tony Watt appears to have a greater appetite but the manager favours James. I like James and I hope he can give the fans their moneys worth soon.

Cheats never win, hold on a minute, the guy is on last.
Rieperman –
On the BBC TV listings page the 4 specialist subjects are named with Celtic shown as 4th. Not sure if they are in that order.
By the way the other subjects are Ian Dury, the Red Army and Gerald Durrell.
SSB excelling themselves tonight…LOL

I corrected my typo immediately after posting. I’m well able to spell when I’m not being careless. I apologise for not typing your full monicker. I usually cut and paste it when posting but don’t know how to do it on my mobile.
Telling someone to bile their heid and that they’re making mountains out of molehills is being insulting. As I pointed out much earlier my initial post wasn’t specifically directed at you -although I did cite some of the terms you had used – but at the increasing references to Italians and Spaniards since Tuesday night in a negative way.
