Referee Mallenco scouted ahead of Celtic game

1081

The Guardian did an excellent piece on Wednesday on how referees in various European territories would view the penalty box wrestling of the Juventus players.  In short, there is a variance in how these offences are punished.  Who knew?

Juventus knew.  I hear they watched four videos of referee Alberto Undiano Mallenco ahead of the Celtic game.

You have to admire their thoroughness.  They had a plan to combat Celtic and needed to know if the referee would let them away with it.  Gone are the days when someone at Juve would simply pick up the phone and ‘ask’.  The danger from Celtic was known, illegal holding would nullify this danger and watching a few videos established what players would get away with.

It’s no longer sufficient to scout your opponents, if you want an edge in this game, scout the referee too.

Every day’s a school day.

I hear from a good contact that a journalist who recently departed the media for a job in the lower leagues once wanted to be a bit of a Jungle Jim. Apparently he was keen to ditch his industry for a job at Celtic back in the 90s. What an escape!

On Friday 1 March the Lisbon Lions will be at the Kerrydale Suite providing commentary and answering questions on their magnificent European Cup final win in 1967. This has never happened in 46 years since that game, to say it is a unique opportunity fails to tell the whole story.

The event is part of our 125 4 125 campaign – central to reinvigorating the charitable spirit which is part of the club we love. It will be a family occasions, tickets are available at £10 for adults and £5 for children. The night has been organised by several fans working in conjunction with the people at Celtic Charity, so please do your best to support this great occasion. Individual tickets or tables are available, details here.

Ask BBC Scotland who took the decision to censor me on Rangers and why! Sure it will be illumi

I tabled a motion in the House about Rangers tax avoidance. If there was legal problem they would have pulled it. BBC Scotland are censors

Censored by BBC on Rangers. Shame on them. ‘There was a legal concern over the legitimacy of the comment..’ By whom? And why? Craven eejits

I don’t understand why any Celtic fan would phone that SSB ….as soon as the caller congratulated the team, he was immediately diverted to talk about Chris’ comment about Efe …poor hurtin little zombie apologists…..nothing changes?

They must be one of the most ridiculed and despised clubs out there.

They will not be playing in any other League without 3 years of accounts.

Well, that’s me finished with listening to SSB …… Totally anti-Celtic, and they can’t even be subtle about it …… They are hurtin’ badly and I just wish greeno would hurry up putting them all out of their misery…….

  7. I just wish the nugget would just stay on under his original moniker instead of being the unfunny Declan…

  8. Looks like a decent programme on BBC4 at 9.00pm tonight. On the 50th anniversary of the recording of the album Please Please Me, various artists attempt to re-record the album in the same time scale – 12 hours. Repeated at half past midnight.

Of course, if the ole CQN quiz is on I might have to record it for later (the programme, not the quiz)

  9. Just heard NL comments about how he would pick the same team and tactics if we could replay Tuesday night. Now we can all be smarter with hindsight but as many have pointed out NL sometimes does not seem to learn from his mistakes. I think this just reinforces that view. Playing Ambrose, just off a long journey, Forrest through the middle, against the strongoint of the Juve defence? Surely most of us would make changes given a second chance.? Substitutions took long enough to get players on the field, whilst Juve made immediate changes.

Ok, Neil is the manager he makes and pays for his decisions but sometimes this stubborness does him no favours.

You’re absolutely spot on …… I found their bias (bordering on bigotry) to be really amusing as they really struggled to ‘talk up’ the floundering ‘tribute act’……..but they are again courting anti-celtic controversy to get acreaction / calls …….pathetic, really

  11. I’m usually on kitchen duties about 6pm and used to listen to SSB. However I chucked it about two years ago and I’m feeling great for it. I’ve got a new outlook on life, my complexion is much clearer, my hair shines and I have a genuine ‘Ready Brek’ glow coming from me.

I have to be careful though and avoid people posting news from the toxic SSB; avoid at all costs is the only answer.

Let them wallow in the detritus.

  17. Thank God it’s Friday and the controversy over the ref and the head-locking Italians still rages like a prairie fire. While Juventus resorted to neck and waist-high tackling to negate the huge Celtic threat from set-pieces contrast that with the methods employed by Celts to nullify Messi and Barcelona probably the most dangerous attacking side in World football without registering one yellow card.

Like yourself I have been having problems during the Friday night quiz – i.e. not being able to see the scores after each round.

Last week crc, very kindly, put the scores before the names which was a great help – even ‘tho I did not take part.

Hopefully he will do the same tonight – ‘tho I think we should remind him!

This is what I said re Rangers last night on QT. It was entirely removed: “Fraser is wearing his Rangers suit and tie tonight; we could make a start by requiring Glasgow Rangers to pay the tax they owe the country”

I thought it was established legally that our Hero Craig Whyte withheld taxes yes or no?

  22. Is Beram Kayal no longer a first choice Celtic player. Before his recent injury Kayal was the most sought after player in a Celtic jersey and was on the radar of all the big EPL clubs. He seems to be back to his best having watched him in recent games. A great workhorse of a player, I was surprised he was not brought on earlier on Tuesday night particularly as James Forrest was marked absent.

  23. BFDJ – why are Celtic asking UEFA for clarification ?

    H. Keevins – For the same reasons that sally asked – who are these people – when

everyone in Ibrokes already knew who these people were !!!
