Referee Mallenco scouted ahead of Celtic game

1081

The Guardian did an excellent piece on Wednesday on how referees in various European territories would view the penalty box wrestling of the Juventus players.  In short, there is a variance in how these offences are punished.  Who knew?

Juventus knew.  I hear they watched four videos of referee Alberto Undiano Mallenco ahead of the Celtic game.

You have to admire their thoroughness.  They had a plan to combat Celtic and needed to know if the referee would let them away with it.  Gone are the days when someone at Juve would simply pick up the phone and ‘ask’.  The danger from Celtic was known, illegal holding would nullify this danger and watching a few videos established what players would get away with.

It’s no longer sufficient to scout your opponents, if you want an edge in this game, scout the referee too.

Every day’s a school day.

I hear from a good contact that a journalist who recently departed the media for a job in the lower leagues once wanted to be a bit of a Jungle Jim. Apparently he was keen to ditch his industry for a job at Celtic back in the 90s. What an escape!

On Friday 1 March the Lisbon Lions will be at the Kerrydale Suite providing commentary and answering questions on their magnificent European Cup final win in 1967. This has never happened in 46 years since that game, to say it is a unique opportunity fails to tell the whole story.

The event is part of our 125 4 125 campaign – central to reinvigorating the charitable spirit which is part of the club we love. It will be a family occasions, tickets are available at £10 for adults and £5 for children. The night has been organised by several fans working in conjunction with the people at Celtic Charity, so please do your best to support this great occasion. Individual tickets or tables are available, details here.

Apologies if already posted. I predict that we will be given a penalty AGAINST us for holding in the box.

  3. Given the substance of Paul67 current blog, I would be interested if someone on here could have a look over the ref’s previous 4 matches and report just how much manhandking he allowed in them.

I would do it myself but I am computer glaikit.

  4. Sometimes the level of Zombie intelligence still surprise me, even although I should know better by now!

Listening to a couple of them chatting in work this afternoon. Talking about League Reconstruction and how Green will be taking them to Belgium, Holland or basically anywehere that Green mentions (I didnt hear them mention Hell unfortunately). One of them even said that Green holds the ‘Club’ close to his heart now. Correct me if I am wrong but I thought it was only the ‘Company’ that he holds dear to his heart!?

Anyway, they started talking about our game during the week and talking about viewing figures (dont know where they got them from, maybe Jabba) and how no one in England watched the game and how they hadnt even bothered watching it, even although they knew every fine detail of the events.

They then moved onto a discussions regarding our home crowds in the SPL and how our numbers are dropping due to the lack of competition and also due to Dead Club no longer being involved in the league.

Its funny listening to their delusion really, I just wish Green would put them out of their misery soon. Or LNS or BDO or the Singaporean Company. Anyone at all! Surely it’s only a matter of time? Please!!!

While I am always happy to see Celtic fighting for their own cause and welcome that action. Highly unusual as it is especially as we mainly lost due to our own mistakes it would therefore be negligent of me not to ask ?

Is the dossier been sent to UEFA related in any way to dissatisfaction about other areas of lack of UEFA governance ?

Campbell Ogilvie was one of the architects of the TV audience size UEFA coefficient weighting. If that does not work send in a MIB minded MIB. Its all about the money. Havelange got a 1m bribe paid into his bank account authorised by Blatter thats public knowledge. Why would Platini be any different in the chain of command. He already knew that Juventus were going through. He provided the pre match dressing room materiał. It helped our performance but not Juventus and the officials as it did not matter. If only we had something on Campbell Ogilvie that was bigger than what he has over on others.

  7. Hail hail fellow Tim’s. In need of some help. Stuck in the Crowne Plaza at Birmingham NEC this weekend. Anyone know of a true CSC or Celtic bar in the Birmingham area showing the match tomorrow? Already checked Celtic bars and a couple are not showing the match.

  8. Just watched the Beeb report on Celtic and the Uefa complaint. Thought I’d better complain about the way it was presented, especially the photo used. Here it is…….

The report was about Celtic making a complaint to UEFA about illegal manhandling of their players against Juventus. The report then focuses on a Celtic player – Gary Hooper – holding a Juve players face with both hands. With all the available live evidence over, many minutes, available to them your reporting team appear to have sifted thru I don’t know how many images to find one that shows the Celtic player as the one doing the offending. What is/was the intention of this? Undermining Celtic and their case? They could have shown Hooper being thrown into the net or Scott Brown being thrown to the ground to balance the photo that they went with but chose not to. Where is the balance? I thought that this was the whole ethos of the BBC, impartiality. There seems to be a growing trend amongst the BBC Scotland’s sports dept to show Celtic in a poor light whilst reporting nonsense proclamations from the CEO of a third division club without once questioning the truth or accuracy of his claims. This matter is now being discussed on many online forums and the BBC is not coming out of it looking too clever. Stop being so London-centric and see what is happening to your reputation in Scotland which is being tarnished by members of your staff under your noses!

Is Beram Kayal no longer a first choice Celtic player. Before his recent injury Kayal was the most sought after player in a Celtic jersey and was on the radar of all the big EPL clubs. He seems to be back to his best having watched him in recent games. A great workhorse of a player, I was surprised he was not brought on earlier on Tuesday night particularly as James Forrest was marked absent.

    Are you Betamax Kayal

During the report the obviously bored Alistair Lamont introduced it as Celtic have complained yada yada. Then throughout, the repeated use of the word ‘they’ in reference to Celtic, was very noticeable and a dead giveaway, as to how they viewed Celtic’s grievance.

The English media coverage of the game and the Juve antics are entirely different to anything like the warped Scottish vantage.

    Dear Mr War

Thanks for contacting the BBC. This is an automated email confirming we have received the complaint below and submitted in this name via http://www.bbc.co.uk/complaints. If you believe you have received this in error please contact us using our webform at http://www.bbc.co.uk/complaints.

We attach the text of the complaint for your records and will normally include it in our overnight report of all today’s audience reaction. This is circulated to BBC staff tomorrow (with your personal details removed) and ensures your points will reach the right people quickly. We aim normally to reply within 10 working days (around 2 weeks) depending on the nature of your complaint.

To make sure we use the licence fee efficiently we may not investigate every issue in detail, and for consistency may send the same reply if others have also complained about the same issue. We’ll see eh?

  21. KevJ@11.59 am

Sorry Kev, Virgin Media internet went down this morning, and this is happening much more regularly recently, so I could not respond

    In brief

    1) Murdo’s testimonial:- Murdo may well have trotted this out many years after the fact to justify his leaving on a free along with Judas and McInally. However, there are contemporary records of press interviews where Murdo said it was all about the money and there was still hope he would sign a new contract if that was increased.

If he had signed, and played for another season, he would have qualified for a 10 year testimonial but he was not due one in that year as you assert. There was a contract offer to Murdo. It was not withdrawn as you stated. It was merely not good enough for Murdo who said, remember, that he’d be a better coach if they paid him more. Twice he tried to hold Celtic to ransom. Twice he failed and he is not missed. He is no lost genius of a coach.

    2) You skate over the religious discrimination inconsistency by stating that maybe Tully, McStay and all the others of an RC persuasion, were not offered posts cause they may not have been any good. That level of reasoning is right up there with Rangers saying they never found an RC player good enough to play for them.

How good a coach was Danny at the end of his playing days? Answer, just as good as Tully and McStay i.e. no good. But he served an apprenticeship with Arbroath and others and could have been considered after that. There is no need to invent religious discrimination as an issue when alternative facts are involved.

BTW “I didn’t call them out for – religious discrimination – DM did in his book.”

I’m sorry but you did. you did not include any quote from Danny but stated it as your view. I challenge you to find the DM quote accusing Celtic of religious discrimination.

    3) As for his age being against him. Danny is now 62. If you watch him on the pitch with others (I know, you do not go anymore) you will see that he is more than fit enough to run a session. Should Alex Ferguson, Guy Roux, Dr. Jo and Raymond Goethals have retired before their 60s?

To cut a long story short….why don’t the Celtic bored/board

grow a pair and – ban the BBC ?

They took the easy option and banned Hugh Keevins.

They will take executive salaries from the money that

Celtic fans put into the club. But, when it comes to taking

    executive decisions…they can’/won’t do it ?

They don’t speak for me. That’s why I don’t give them any of my

hard-earned money by way of a SB, although…I do attend here and there.

I’ve follewd Celtic home n away for 44 years now but, I refuse to finance

the Thatcher/types who now run the club.

I would sack them all – right NOW and, let the Celtic fans take control of the club.

Afterall…didn’t Fergus say that was how it would be ?
