Referring to a team no longer with us

753

Let’s be clear, you cannot punish a player on the basis that he has made a comment which is only offensive, offence is subjective, highly so in Scottish football, where thousands await the opportunity.

Nor can you punish a player for a derogatory remark which may offend, especially if the remark does not call into question the probity of the subject.  “Hearts are rotten, we beat them easily twice this season”, is a derogatory remark and will offend some Hearts fans, but it also falls into the category of being a fair opinion.

And without pointing out the obvious, you cannot offend the dead.  John Guidetti and the club are right to contest this ridiculous charge, which by context, clearly refers to a team no longer with us.

I was absolutely astonished to read that newco (and former oldco) director, Paul Murray, explained Dave King’s absence from newco’s recent share as he is waiting until the SFA “have completed their review of Dave’s status before he can fully participate in the future of the Club”.

The SFA have no issue whatsoever in Dave King investing heavily in newco, or in owning all shares.  Indeed, King is already the largest shareholder, which has attracted no attention from the football authorities.

The prospect of King sloping off if the SFA judge him not Fit and Proper (which I think they will), is a fabulous twist in the work of this legendary non-executive director of a dead club.  He sat on the oldco board which paid EBTs for so many years, he stayed while they made no provision for the HMRC tax case, plunging into the transfer market instead.  Now he awaits the whim of the SFA before deciding to invest, having led newco away from their primary source of funding.

What a star.

  1. I notice the obvious are still saying they are not happy about the Guidetti incident with the compliance office and want Celtic to act on it?

Celtic have acted on it they have been in touch with them and are waiting to see what happens.

And now the RT (Rangers trust) have stood up and made a statement about what they think, Sevco fc you will note have not said a word about it, they let there fans get weighed in and they did.

That’s why I asked last night what do the Celtic supporters associations/ trust/supporters clubs do when it come to this are they not allowed a say like thems are doing? As I said Celtic made a statement what about the fans voice? Who does that? We can’t keep running to PL every time we think we have been done a wrong, is it not about time the supporters stood up and had there say?

As I said I don’t know how it works, that’s why I’m asking im not making accusations or saying that we or our fan groups are not fit for purpose, but I do think it’s about time we stood on our own two feet and at least make some sort of a statement instead of all being smart arses in the little safe zone in here about what should be done, and who should be doing it, and WHOIS fault it is.

That’s just being soft and sitting on the fence Humpty Dumpty style, so you fan groups get your heads together and at least make a fist of it, or we can sit in here and play at being rebels, and blaming PL and the board, after all it’s what you do, leadership?

Just a personal view, and I do value your input :-)

The RST statement was Slanderous of our Club

    Therefore

The Club should take action ?

Time to stand up to this incessant attack on us, for being a well run and champion club

Well actually that’s my point, as I said it wasent Sevco it was the RT, Celtic won’t bite there, but we can, it’s a fan thing, we fight for the club and the board and PL for a change, unique? You better believe it is, but I live in hope.

I have to say I have some degree of sympathy with those who take offence at the lyrics of the song in question . In my opinion , they are entitled to point out they are not accurate and without foundation.

John Guidetti is NOT a “super Swede”

We have already seen what one of them looks like and it ain`t him – no amount of wrapping himself in a blue and yellow flag as he huffed his way round Hampden is ever going to change that.

Talking about having to play in good Friday as we are next weekend, I seem to recall the night we played them(st Mirran) in a replay when the horses nearly killed hundreds of fans waititng to get into the match and wee JD (rip) was sent off and Danny McGrain broke McDougals leg was played on an ash Wednesday.

I’ve an inkling that a corporate body, like a football club or limited company, unlike an individual, would have to show actual financial loss to succeed in an action for defamation.

So that’s not going to happen, as the Club won’t have lost money due to the rantings of a bunch of morons.

  14. f.a.b. virgil (watrc)

For the record I was all for resolution 12., but as you put it I was not for the ball carriers I said at the time they would drop the ball and they did, but thas old hat, and I have been asked to stay away from the resolution 12 subject by one of the people who is still on the case and I told him that I would give him ground and wished him luck, so we can shelv that for the moment.

As for me taking on the RT if I was in position of leadership in any of the Celtic groups you can bet your sweet arse I’d be all over them in a NY minute, I wouldent stand by and let that bunch of corksuckers run my Club/ Board/or players down, are you kidding me? With the ammunition they have gave us? A ten year old Celtic supporter would rip them up like toilet paper never mind an adult, as I said don’t put the spin on me that won’t work, if they are not up for the fight then stay in the comfort zone in here, as I have said, changed days indeed.

  15. BT….I think the game ye might be talking about was a SC-replay at Love Street when it was estimated that 10k of Celtic fans were locked out that night…I had a ticket but, didny get in till half time then had to run onto the track to avoid all the bottles being thrown as mibbery was in full swing as the Celts marched on their way to the Hampden Riot SCF one of the best days of my life.

  16. On the back of one victory the good news hasn’t stopped coming out of ibrox ….

Celtic fans dont need to wage cyber war with the huns fans…all Celtic have to do is…recruit a ‘cutey’ to run Celtic’s PR-dept…I’d go for Jeanette Findlay to construct a new Celtic FC / PR-dept….we’d soon see how many big-bad wolves wanted to take her on…..then again,……nahhhhh……Celtic’s custodians would see Jeanette Findlay as a threat to their kow-towing ways……imho

Got in at love st end, It was pay at the gate about 35 mins into game. 1 0 down and ten men. Johhny Doyle scored winner I think :) right in front of me. 27000 was offical crowd. Strolled past hibs in semi and then the deid club in the final

  26. The RST statement was probably written by Chris Graham.

This is a life long supporter of oldco and newco. He must have dreamed all of his life of wearing the club tie, brown brogues and sitting in the director’s box at Ibrox. Yet his idiocy and racism resulted in him lasting a matter of days as a board member.

HIs credibility is in tatters and he’s hurting because the online Celtic community forced his resignation.

Peter Lawell is far from stupid and there is nothing to be gained by him/Celtic making any reference never mind statement on Graham’s mad rantings.

In my opinion the same goes for any supporters grouping. There is nothing to be gained from getting involved in mud slinging with a pig.

Celtic have made their statement let’s see what happens at the 9th April hearing.

I remember a game at Love St in the early 80s where the exit gate-the big type,on rollers-was still locked when the game ended.

People were climbing the terraces and coming down those steep old stairs into one helluva crush. I spotted it early and dragged my mates wide, but even there it was getting tight,to say the least!

To this day I have no idea how the fellas at the front managed to wrench it open and let us out,but they have my gratitude still.
