Regan on SFA acting without fear

944

“The Scottish FA has a responsibility to all its members and must implement its rules without fear or favour”.  Stewart Regan, SFA chief executive, 24 April 2012.

What chance the SFA will be able to act without fear now?  I don’t imply they will act without favour, but do you believe SFA panellists can act without fear?  Anyone who participates in Rangers appeal process and upholds their punishment will act despite fear.

This process, one of the most important the SFA has dealt with in years, has been subverted, and that calls for a far greater sanction that any already imposed.

Just heard a further with interview Eric Drysdale on Radio 5. The fact that he has had to be briefed by Strathclyde Police Counter Terrorism officers tells us all we need to know. And while, understandably, he is reluctant to blame Ali McCoist directly, he does describe the Rangers manager’s comments as “ill-judged”. They were all of that and more. They were malevolent and they were aimed at the more malevolent among the club’s supporters. Has even one of McCoist’s cheerleaders came out to condemn him, or even counsel him? Answer, no.

  6. Just a thought, has anyone in the media ever asked smith why he kept spending money they didn’t have?

Ask him why he said they never signed a player for 3 years?

It annoys me that he has slithered under the radar, when he was one of the main causes, trying to keep their “air of protestant supremacy”.

Another rhetorical question, why is that fat bigot of a spokesperson never off the tv?

Even most huns know he is a crook, I think even Murray banned him from Ibrox?

  7. McCoist’s grandstanding yesterday was no off-the-cuff remark, no, I believe it was a deliberate ploy to mobilise the neanderthal element of the Rangers support and I believe it was carefully choreographed as part of a media burst that included media pieces by Traynor, Hately and Smith.

It all reminded me very much of Paisleys tactics in the late 60’s early 70’s where he targeted the baser elements of Protestantism and roused them into a frenzy by playing on their fears.

The fears of the protestant population of NI then and Rangers supporters of today are very similar in that their position of self importance, real or otherwise, was threatened by changes that ended the unfair processes that had benefited them for decades.

The result in Northern Ireland is now history; will we see similar behaviour by Ranger’s supporters?

I fear so and I truly hope McCoist is brought to book for his outrageously provocative stance.

If Rangers will be dead next season, how will clubs know that Jardine and his Jardineites are taking action against them?

  9. Not to distract from the Orc implosion but anyone heard any rumors about the pre season tour in the states?? I’ve heard mention of a game at Yankee stadium, but wondering if anyone knew of rough dates, so I get my holidays sorted at work and get a quick jaunt over to NYC enjoy a game and several beers at Demsey’s with the Manhattan CSC

Just got the link to the Jardine press conference.

What a disaster that club is.

We now have it confirmed that McCoist’s comments on RFCIA tv were planned, agreed by all at their midden, scripted and delivered to rouse their rabble.

Jardine’s comments are frankly just as bad as McCoits’s.

Slagging off the SFA and their panel, promising sanctions by their supporters against unspecified other clubs. If this is not implicit approval for more lynch mob mentaility from that club I don’t know what is.

Everything is Craig Whyte’s fault. The players, the staff, the manager, the supporters are all blameless. Gawd help us.

And what about the jobs that will be lost if/when we go into liquidation? he asks.

Arrogance, enititlement, supremacy, hubris, cognitive dissonance.

We are too big to have the same rules applied to us that these are other clubs have applied to them. Oh and by the way, we’re gonnae sort thame oot big time.

    What a complete…well…fud actually.

On McCoist making an arse of himself again, his true colors have definately been shown! But also those who remember “eveytime he scored against Celtic” he had his wee jig….by arrowing his hands to his knees….. signifying……….you get the jist. So by all accounts he is spouting like a wounded dog who has no other means but to growl, bark, and gnarl…..his lack of intelligence is totally in view….Let them squirm and shrivel and fall like the losers, cheaters, and fraudsters they are!! I do hope we fkn hump them big time on Sunday for old times sake…ofcourse depends on what team shows up and what calls we get…..hail hail

  15. Threats ‘shock’ SFA panel member Eric Drysdale

Eric Drysdale admits the reaction to his part in the Scottish FA panel decision to ban Rangers from transfers for a year has come as “a shock”.

The Raith Rovers director and two other judicial panel members have been advised by police after receiving threats relating to Rangers’ ban.

“I’ve been principally concerned for my family,” said Drysdale, who wishes to continue as a judicial panel member.

“The experience was not what I was expecting when I joined the panel.”

Member clubs voted in changes to the SFA’s disciplinary procedures, which included the implementation of the semi-autonomous judicial panel, which is made up of volunteers.

“I wanted to put something back into Scottish football and the level of problems that we’ve experiened in the last day or so has taken me by surprise,” said Drysdale.

“There’s been calls to Stark’s Park and just general emails and that kind of thing. I don’t want to go into the specifics of anything that’s been said but obviously I’ve been receiving advice from the police on how to deal with that.

“I’ve been involved in football for a number of years and I’m quite used to that side of things but this is a different level entirely, just a different experience.

“Some members of the judicial panel will be watching this and thinking, ‘what have I got myself involved in?’. I’ve certainly questioned it myself over the last 48 hours.

“Somebody’s got to do it but there will be people who don’t want to subject themselves, and more particularly their families, to this kind of pressure and I would perfectly understand that.

“If there was another high-profile case like this, I would have to think about it. But, I don’t think there will be many more high-profile cases than this.

“On the basis that this is an unusual set of events, I would like to continue if I possibly can.”

    Rangers punishments

12-month transfer ban and £100,000 fine for bringing the game into disrepute

£50,000 fine for going into administration

£10,000 fine for failing to ensure that chairman Craig Whyte acted within rules concerning fit and proper officials

Whyte fined £50,000 for bringing the game into disrepute

Whyte given three further £50,000 fines on counts of failing to follow directions from an SFA tribunal

Drysdale insists he would “have no difficulty” with a public hearing instead of a private procedure and suggests the timing of announcements should be changed.

“The process is very robust but I think a lesson to be learned from it might be that when decisions are reached that we delay public announcement of that until we also give the reasons for the decisions reached,” he said.

“If people can read that all in a oner rather than having to wait this few days then perhaps they form a more balanced view of the process.”

Following the announcement of the transfer embargo and fines for Rangers and owner Craig Whyte over rule breaches, Rangers manager Ally McCoist questioned who had made the decision but later expressed his “disgust” at threats made towards the panel members.

Drysdale insists “a lot of evidence from a number of people” was considered during the hearing and said of McCoist’s initial call for identification: “I don’t think it helped.

“I was disappointed at what was said in that interview with Ally. I understand the huge pressure he must be under every day of his life and I have a lot of sympathy for that.

“Nobody involved in this process has an axe to grind at all against Rangers. It was purely a case of coming to a judgement based on the evidence that we’d heard.

“I stand by decisions that were reached. We looked at the options available to us and the decision of the panel was that this was an appropriate level of sanction.

“That was my view and that’s what I was asked to give, my view.”

McCoist’s comments were by no means ill-judged. They were very well chosen and their sole purpose was to intimidate.

It’s all part and parcel of the Rangers’ way. Remember when QC Findlay was filmed performing sectarian acts – his first response was for retribution to be meted out to the whistleblower.

    +++++

Uefa and FIFA are quite, erm, granular when applying that punishment. They’ll review how the football authorities here handle any direct legal action (note: PMcB and Ogg were not actions, only defence) and apply punishments of their own accordingly.

Essentially meaning that if the SFA/SPL just roll over to their legal actions FIFA and Uefa will indeed look to ban the National Association (and by extension the clubs, who are forwarded to European competition by the SFA), but they would also further punish those taking the action eg. Der Orkenkind might be banned for 3 years whereas SFA would be banned for 1.

If the SFA fight their corner and Der Orkenkind persist with their legal action, presumably through some other route than CAS (they really wouldn’t want to go down that way), then FIFA and Uefa would simply look to ban them for a number of seasons, possibly just one, but they would then dig into transfers etc, adding their own embargo (4 to 6 windows?) for the various ‘indiscretions’ of der orkenkind.

I was quoting Eric Drysdale, who had used “ill-judged” in his interview with Asmah Mir on Radio 5. Taken literally it is accurate, but I am with you on this one, however chosen his words are malevolent. Drysdale was named (on a Rangers website) on the same night of the Rangers TV broadcast. That information came from somewhere, was it concerted, wouldn’t surprise me.
