Regionalisation needs to be discussed before reorganisation

827

Dramatic and ambitions developments in European leagues, in this instance Russian and Ukraine, who have taken Michel Platini’s endorsement for the regionalisation of domestic leagues, should inspire the imagination of every football fan and administrator in a league with problems.

Scotland has a league with problems.

Our clubs and national association are committed to reorganisation but neither proposal from the Scottish Premier League or Scottish Football League does anything to halt the inevitable decline and marginalisation of our clubs.

In the 60s, 70s and 80s well-run Scottish provincial clubs regularly beat leading teams from big European countries but since then our small domestic market TV market has made most Scottish clubs also-rans, both in Europe and at home.  We have a league system where the battle for second place is competitive and interesting but does not carry a meaningful reward; only one club is capable of winning the league.

Before making any changes to our league system we need to consider what changes are happening elsewhere in Europe and have a mature conversation about regionalisation.

Ordered the CQN Annual yet? It is a product of literary brilliance. Get it here in time for Christmas!

Regionalisation would be a logistical nightmare for our hard core supporters, finances and time are very precious to all,

our traveling Celtic supporters from Ireland already have a big commitment, as do all the bhoys and ghirls who travel from all over this land, so adding to there traveling

I spent hours searching for doublers as well! So that everyone knows, the names at the bottom of the pages in the CQN ANNUAL, apart from a few prominent posters who are no longer with us, were all gathered over a few nights in early November when we simply noted everyone posting on the site on those nights. If you didn’t make it in -there’s always next year.

    Evening all.

I have to say I’m astonished at the amount of comments regarding what went on on SSB this evening.

I stopped listening a while ago and find I am much more relaxed and content as a result (particularly between 6 & 8 PM on a weekday!). I would also think that the less people that listen to the show, eventually the less they will be able to bring in from advertising and sponsorship.

Personally I wouldn’t give them the time of day.

    Auldheid,

thats the point of the experiment, lets see, I’m sure Celtic and quite a few SPL teams would make a lot more than they are getting from the sky deal, I also expect as I said with an overhaul of the system most teams would win.

In my reply to stevebhoy I accepted some clubs might go under, that IMO would be a natural event, we have been saying it for long enough there are too many teams, clubs living beyond their means need to deal with the reality of financial prudence, in saying that there are not many in the lower leagues who are playing that game are there, they’ve cut their cloth a long time agon and neither get anything or depend on anything from the spl.

According to SSB the newco huns can’t play in Europe because they don’t have three years accounts.

But does admission to the Scottish League not require three years accounts?

And were the Sevco huns not admitted on the strength (sic) of the oldco’s accounts?

So why can’t Sevco play in European competitions?

    ——————————————————

SPL clubs are covered by UEFA FFP licensing rules other divisions by National Club Licensing rules.

Both have the three years accounts stipulation but of course only for SPL clubs can the consequence of not producing them be being barred from UEFA competition.

However you remind me of a counter argument to the one of the ECA recognising Rangers membership and so their continuing history.

In UEFA rules the licence not membership is the governing factor for the simple reason a club’s situation changes year on year and UEFA have to react to that. Licences are NOT transferable from one club to another.

    Article 14 – Licence

1 Clubs which qualify for the UEFA club competitions on sporting merit or through

the UEFA fair play rankings must obtain a licence issued by their licensor

according to the national licensing regulations, except where Article 15 applies.

2 A licence expires without prior notice at the end of the season for which it was

    issued.

3 A licence cannot be transferred.

Ipso fatso for licensing purposes UEFA do not and cannot recognise The Rangers as the same club.

I do not listen to their crap as I did not listen to Real. I cannot honestly say I have never listened to them, but most certainly not in the past 3 years. Their agendas against my team were so obvious they never bothered to hide it, so the only gist I get about what is going on is on here.

  21. First of all…Hail Hail…this is a Celtic blog, and I’m a Celtic supporter first and foremost. Last 16, top of the league, in both domestic cups…and Champions (without cheating)…what’s not to like?

I need to say though that I feel gutted that Montrose were ready to apologise for simply stating fact…fact…however there is the unintended ‘WATP’ consequence every time Chuckles, Sally or Walter open their mouths…they further alienate themselves from the paying fans in Scotland…ask your average Montrose fan what he or she thinks of them now.

    Give them enough rope…

Unfortunately though, I also believe that Chuckles is a dangerous wee character, and the SFA (don’t laugh) or the police need to have a less than quite word…he’s stirring people up…and the people he’s stirring don’t require much motivation to ‘WATP’ it. Dangerous little man…
