Regionalisation needs to be discussed before reorganisation

827

Dramatic and ambitions developments in European leagues, in this instance Russian and Ukraine, who have taken Michel Platini’s endorsement for the regionalisation of domestic leagues, should inspire the imagination of every football fan and administrator in a league with problems.

Scotland has a league with problems.

Our clubs and national association are committed to reorganisation but neither proposal from the Scottish Premier League or Scottish Football League does anything to halt the inevitable decline and marginalisation of our clubs.

In the 60s, 70s and 80s well-run Scottish provincial clubs regularly beat leading teams from big European countries but since then our small domestic market TV market has made most Scottish clubs also-rans, both in Europe and at home.  We have a league system where the battle for second place is competitive and interesting but does not carry a meaningful reward; only one club is capable of winning the league.

Before making any changes to our league system we need to consider what changes are happening elsewhere in Europe and have a mature conversation about regionalisation.

Ordered the CQN Annual yet? It is a product of literary brilliance. Get it here in time for Christmas!

  1. According to SSB the newco huns can’t play in Europe because they don’t have three years accounts.

But does admission to the Scottish League not require three years accounts?

And were the Sevco huns not admitted on the strength (sic) of the oldco’s accounts?

So why can’t Sevco play in European competitions?

A friend ( non celt or zombie) told me he had a tim mate who had kept records of dodgy decisions on behalf and against both glasgow teams. Ten years of data showing conclusive proof of zombie bias

did rangers ever manage to put together 3 years accounts to the sfa, I thought they failed on that too

Sure that chuck gave sfa a financial presentation. They had

a special vote to allow them into the league , because they had

‘If every Tim that listens to snyde would just switch off and leave it off for a month or two, I reckon we could get a great wee double up sevco & snyde scoreboard go belly up in the same month’

Very true but that would leave thousands of Old Firm fans desperately unhappy

“There were around 300 Rangers fans who caused trouble in Manchester”

To be fair the 300 of thems has a footprint of 3000 normal sized fans.

  10. Whilst we scratch our heads and have a snigger at Green’s threats and bombast, we have to bear in mind that what he is doing overtly, is what that organisation have been doing for decades.

They have controlled and “owned” Scottish football, and media, and no significant decision was ever made that was not in their interests.

It took John Reid, Peter Lawwell and Paul.Mc.Bride QC, to shout “Stop”.

They shook the SFA, but, unfortunately, to date, they have not toppled.

Perhaps another wee shove would do it.

If that mob are not brought to justice and extinction, then all talk of reconstruction and regionalisation are moot.

    The game will be dead.

The sums are simple, will Scottish SPL clubs make the same or more via increased gates by refusing to have games broadcast live than they will get from the TV companies?

Some might and some might not so to get agreement every club would have to be sure they would not lose out. Would clubs who would get more agree to share some of that extra gate money with those who would lose out? Would it be right of Celtic if they thought they would get more to pull out and go it alone and so impoverish maybe kill some already impoverished clubs and the league with them? Can of worms.

My lassies point is right on there being lack of broadcasting competition. The SPL were looking at creating their own SPLTV and that seems to have been lost along with Rangers.

If they were the broadcaster (and at the very least they should have an estimate of what an SPLTV or even SFTV could earn even if just to bargain up a Sky offer ) they could dictate when games are shown around the 3 to 5 blackout (which btw I would challenge FIFA about – but that is another story).

Games could be scheduled over a weekend well in advance to allow full fan participation. So maybe not No TV but TV we control.

  15. When the day arrives, and it will, when we are due to play sevco I predict that the Celtic board will acknowledge THE Rangers as Rangers and fully embrace the return of the Old Firm brand and as someone else said on here that’s the day I walk away. After all its about the colour of money but the excuse will be for the sake of civil obedience or put another way be ruled by fear, what a despicable new club they are HH

as I said when the banned Terry O that was them giving up the ghost of honesty

    with you 100%

but there are many who just enjoy a good car crash

bigger problem for me is while they are all gloating about the careless driver getting his comeuppance they are ignoring our own driver.

harassment, remember when Neil said he would meet with the GB, heard nothing more from either side, meanwhile the polis are at Celktic park making new movies, I mean they know every GB and section 111 member by name, yet there they are making new movies employing lip reades to go over the footage in the hope that someone might say something offensive and the Celtic board are doing what exactly
