Relentless Forrest a blast from O’Neill era

138

James Forrest’s cross for Odsonne Edouard’s equaliser yesterday was like a goal from the Martin O’Neill era, when so much of our play was about getting crosses to drop in front of goal.  It contrasts with the ball across the face of goal, or pulled back, which we more commonly see today.  The difference in styles reflects the difference in personnel, but it often takes variation to prise open a packed defence.

While Odsonne continues to grab the headlines, James’ has an equal claim to the Most Valuable Player title.  He was relentless yesterday.

Fair play to Kilmarnock, their 6-3-1 formation required a couple of exceptional goals to break their resolve.  They will do all right this season, or at least, better than their early results suggested.

Six games, six wins, 21 goals for and four against is impressive form.  We won two from our opening six last season, scoring only six goals.  The same this season would have Newco in the kind of frenzy not seen since their Petrofac Cup win.  While we bossed them at Ibrox, they are hanging in there.  Both teams will be taxed between now and Christmas as the Europa League group stage progresses.

Marco Rose was a popular alternative to Neil Lennon amongst some of the younger supporters.

His Borussia Monchengladbach got pumped 4-0 by the third best team in Austria and hes holding on to his job by the fingertips.

  3. Bored… was there to be a final figure settled on the Sevco and SDI dispute today?

    Give me a laugh

Correct. Have we ever had a Swiss player?

If you are around, maybe you should change your blog name. The Bunnet looked far from Battered on Sunday.

Indeed…..and here are some fine words from the man:

“Spurs was a part of my life, they gave me a chance, an experience at a big club and I owe them for that. But I tell you what, I’d walk to Glasgow today for a chance to play for Celtic one more time.”

Interestingly, Wiki has a list of countries for which Celtic players have played and Switzeland is not included….even though Ramon played for them 28 (?) times.

  6. Celtic FC Foundation are delighted to announce details of our Celtic Sleep Out event in Glasgow, which is an integral element of our 2019 Christmas Appeal.

The event returns to Celtic Park on Saturday, November 16 for a fifth consecutive year, following the outstanding efforts of our supporters since 2015.

Participants will spend the night – from 10pm to 6am – battling the elements outdoors, under the stars, all for a wonderful cause.

All we ask is that each volunteer commits to raising a minimum of £130 (after £30 non-refundable entry fee) for Celtic FC Foundation’s 2019 Christmas Appeal.

Certainly Martin O’Neill would use that tactic, and others to great effect. Two goals in the the EPL, one from a whipped cross from Di Bruin for City and the other from a similar play for Sheffield Utd which led to the defender trying a flying header which unfortunately saw the ball bounce over him and….a goal. Catches the defence off balance see

Martin had Tommy Boyd, Didier, Jackie, Alan Thompson et al that could all do that. McKinley before them, Kieran too. Now if I owed a pound for every time on here somebody claimed that Jamesy should get to the byline more often I would be being managed by BDO. City and Liverpool do it every week and we can too, we have players who can do it, and not just James Forrest.

  9. Moritz Baurer was born and raised in Switzerland. He took out an Austrian passport so he could play international football for Austria . He then tried to burn this passport when he was being blamed for a bad result. He is quoted as saying he would try and play for the Faroe Islands as they had more chance of success. He also went on a pilgrimage to Rome and tried to join the Vatican guards. And then he got his pilots licence! Taken from a German website so this might or might not be true.

I read an article yesterday ((Guardian I think), saying that the Mafia was in terminal decline in Sicily? Any thoughts from a resident?

  13. I think FF has only been beaten 3 times since he returned-

    A penalty

A rebound from a penalty save and

    A deflection

The confidence he inspires in the defenders is clear as day.

Brilliant signing and 100% down to the manager.

Never liked McCall and I really hope we score plenty on Wednesday against Thistle but we really need to rest some of the top players.

    6-0

  14. BMCUWP-had a good day at the hoot, everyone was absolutely brilliant company.

(His Borussia Monchengladbach got pumped 4-0 by the third best team in Austria and hes holding on to his job by the fingertips.)

    Really???

His team are in 6th place in the Bundesliga on 10 points which is the same amount as Dortmund in 3rd who have a better goal difference.

Bayern in 2 nd have 11 points.

  16. Bauer looks the part.Super fit, tireless, bit of swagger about him.If hemaintains this kind of form,a cert we will buy him end of season. At the moment ,looks an absolute bargain at around £3 million. So does Big Tam for £1.6 million.Great work done in the window. When have we had such a good defence, with great back up.

Think the players could be right, this team on the verge of being special.

  17. Wee question please.Anyone seen the movie,Robert The Bruce. Not Outlaw King.Trying to find it on my box.It there, but no streams.

    Many thanks.

It was noticeable that every killie bye kick or long free kick was directed towards Boli. He dealt comfortably with everyone of them. I’m sure he will on occasion be caught out but I love his enthusiasm, never hides and adds a real energy. I’m sure he will keep improving

    ——–

They dropped one on him from kick off. You would think they would realise it wont amount to anything but no, they must read the newspapers and listen to the radio. Boli was outstanding yesterday, a superb cross for the 3rd and some incisive passing into Forrest. I’ve been so impressed with him, he is ever improving defensively and very powerful. Dare i say it, i don’t miss KT.
