REVEALED: ‘PLANS IN PLACE’ AS POSTECOGLOU PLOTS TRANSFER RAIDS

ANGE POSTECOGLOU has revealed plans are already underway to strengthen his Celtic squad in the summer.

The Hoops boss has been busy in the background to ensure business will be done without delay in the transfer market before the end of the August deadline for the new season.

Postecoglou has wasted no time during the windows and brought in the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Liel Abada and Carl Starfelt only weeks after his June arrival in 2021 as Neil Lennon’s long-term successor.

UP AND AT ‘EM…Carl Starfelt, one of Ange Postecoglou’s first buys for Celtic, heads clear from Motherwell striker Louis Moult as Cameron Carter-Vickers looks on.

J-League trio Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi were introduced on the first day of the following January with Matt O’Riley joining a couple of weeks later.

It was the same story last summer with players such as Sead Haksabanovic, Alexandro Bernabei and Aaron Mooy joining the title winners while January saw the recruitment of Alistair Johnston, Oh Hyeon-gyu and Japanese pair Tomoki Iwata and Yuki Kobayashi.

Over the same period players such as Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie, Kristoffer Ajer, Josip Juranovic and Giorgos Giakoumakis have left Parkhead.

Postecoglou is already plotting for his fifth transfer window which opens in June and the Greek-Australian gaffer admitted: “We already have some plans in place in terms of areas we want to strengthen.

WELCOME TO CELTIC…Alistair Johnston joined the champions in January from MLS club CF Montreal.

“At the same time, there is always the possibility that our players may move on for one reason or another and we have to be ready for that and make sure that come the end of the window we are in a better position that we were going into it.”

Asked about the magnitude of the business, Postecoglou, speaking to the Daily Record, answered: “It depends on the window, particularly the summer window.

“You go into that one with a little bit of uncertainty because you don’t know what players will be affected within your own squad. So you are kind of always alert.

“But the goal is the same in every transfer window. We want to come out of the window stronger than we go into it. And we are ready for that.”
