Ronaldo, Ali and the pantomime act

441

I read critical comments on Cristiano Ronaldo’s comments after Iceland had the temerity to take a point from Portugal last night and recalled some of the heartfelt and genuine affection expressed last week for Muhammad Ali.

“Graceless”, “disrespectful” and “unsporting” was the general tone, which is pretty much what was levelled at Muhamad when he called Joe Frazier an “Uncle Tom”, surely the pinnacle of a career sending disrespectful barbs towards opponents.

I could listen to and watch Muhammad all day long, he was forever a treat to sport and the world, but had he shut his mouth and JUST boxed only actual boxing fans would know his name now.

Ronaldo sounds like he’s taken lessons from The Greatest. At first pass it doesn’t look like it, but when he reacts churlishly after a disappointment, he helps make football a bigger sport, just as Ali did for boxing. And just like Ali, many will want Ronaldo and Portugal to lose, just to take the smug grin off his face. That’s why sport engages so many, but if you loved Ali, be consistent and cheer on Ronnie.

I’ve read and enjoyed some of what this pantomime act they’ve signed across the city has been saying this month. Good luck to him, he’s sheer entertainment. Anyone who can give it thick to royalty, mix with certain councillors, shout for Celtic, then tell Newco to cheer for him as he takes millions from them, deserves some slack.

    Hey, Jimmy.

    1842 , eh.

Bit of European water under the bridge since then.

Seriously, though. No borders , no countries.

    A state of uniglot.

    I prefer countries.

I’m not falling for your disingenuous routine.

We still have countries. Loads of them.

If it’s uniglot you’re agin then look at the multi nationals.

Ruling the world this time round since the days of East India Company and going around pinching other people’s countries with a wee dose of genocide into the bargain.

All over the world….in places like …… Australia.

The EU is like a parish council by comparison.

I am not au fait with the circumstances surrounding Rosyth – will do a bit of homework when I can,

If you are you saying that UK workers were deliberately sacked to be replaced by overseas workers, then of course that would be wrong, if not illegal.

If this was the case, and I must say I find it quite hard to believe, what was the reaction of the Trades Unions? Surely in such an event Employment Tribunals would be triggered.

I have always, as part of my job, kept abreast of all business, social and political movements within the UK and Scotland, however what you describe does not ‘strike a chord’ with me.

If you have a link to information, I would be pleased to have it.

I believe that all Manufacturing, Financial Sector, Agriculture and Exporters in Scotland, would feel a bitter cold wind, should Brexit prevail – only my considered point of view.

    Macjay,

In the event of a Brexit how long do you think it would be before London’s relationship with Europe would breakdown with trade disputes and other confrontations?

Given the history of war in Europe can you see any benefit of staying within and reforming things you are concerned about like border control?

Perhaps the Union has challenged the mindset of racial superiority and entitlement so prevalent in a number of European countries?

‘Would you say the sensible decision for the UK workers paid off from Rosyth to accommodate Polish and Romanian tradesmen would be to vote to remain ?’

    ####

The consensus of informed opinion is that a post Brexit Britain that wanted to trade with the EU would have to accept free movement of labour.

So anyone being persuaded to vote to leave by being told it will stop migrant labour is being lied to.

It’s a bit like the independence referendum.

    ———————————————————————————-

I agree with the RMT ( One of the biggest offshore unions ) and subsequently disagree that I am being lied to.

Migrant labour is absolutely necessary and controlled immigration is certainly a good thing. However when we have skilled men willing and capable of doing a job on their own doorstep being overlooked then we have a dilemma and a decision to make.

On a personal level : I was working on a job in Norway. We were laid off due to Norwegian tradesmen being able to do our jobs. When all the Norwegian workers were accommodated, foreign labour was re-employed.

I totally agree with that. That is common sense.

I can see pros and cons from both sides of the debate but protecting workers terms and conditions must be paramount in any decision.

    Neganon2,

I posted that link to show that there are questions to be answered, the obvious being why were people being carried to the scene of the crime and not away ?

I do not and never said I did support the his claim that it was all a fake, what I do contend is that things are not what the meeja would want you to believe.

On brexit I already made my reason clear, Turkey being fast tracked is for me reason enough to walk away.

Your claim that brexit is a backward step I have to disagree with for simple reasons, when things are careering out of control which I think Europe is, you either ride it out and hope or you jump off, there is no middle ground. You only need to look at how Greece was treated and the power the banking system has to see it is going in the wrong direction, the banks created Greece’s problems and were allowed to keep their illegally gotten gains and forced the sale of national assets whose incomes helped pay off debt and those banks are still dictating economic policy to Europe.

NATO is fast becoming a unified army, not under Europe’s control but the USA’s control, even more dangerous than the banks.

It is harder for corporate lobbiests to own all the politicians at national level than at European level we just need to look at the US to see how that works. There is more chance to see the back of corporate lobbies at national level than European level.

You raise human rights, much easier to fix at national level than European level and when the plan for federalisation of Europe is completed you can be sure the federation attitude will change towards human rights again look at the US for pointers.

Until Europe finds a way to improve on representation the biggest nations interests will always be the highest priority, currently being run like a Plc where the shareholders with the most shares dictate the direction and strategy, how is that analogy with Celtic Plc working for you ?

Sorry pal but Europe is failing badly and needs to be realigned with the interests of its population not those of corporation, bankers and foreign military strategies.

Already the single economic doctrine of capitalism is being enforced through stunts like Greece and when that is your datum you can forget trivia like democracy, freedom and human rights, when they come into conflict with the most powerful lobbiests interests. Europe is a fools paradise and right now it’s sirens are blinding too many to the real dangers of further surrender of power to a more powerful and centralised organisation run like a Plc.

Rather than post an individual link. I would suggest employing google at your leisure ” Rosyth and foreign Labour ” to see the varied articles from differing perspectives.

I was also surprised to hear about this as levels of security clearance must be taken into the equation on MOD ships. But personally speaking to some of the workers they assure me that is indeed the case.

    Hail, Hail to you.

The single most important role of govt. is the protection of it`s citizens.

    All other functions are secondary.

    Ergo Brexit.

Economy…….may well decline. That must be accepted. Although I can`t quite see why British taxpayers should be bailing out a country which lied to gain entry and cheated when it was a member.

Merkel`s disastrous ” come to the Deutschland bower ” will probably sound the deathknell of the E.C. anyway.

Ire-exit as well and we could have a mutually beneficial partnership with our friends in Dublin , based on mutual respect instead of the domination endured by Ireland in the past.

    We`re blood brothers anyway.

Migrant labour is necessary to control the cost and dilute the power of the local labour. Only when a shortage is proven and the training of new additions cannot meet the demand, is it truly necessary. Norway is a very good example.

Good morning HAND OF GOD to answer your Celtic related question i believe Jason Cummings of our feeder club Hibernian is well worth a punt .He scores all sorts of goals and has a bit of gallusness about him and in a couple of years we may be able to sell him to Southampton for a tidy profit.

  17. Someone said earlier that he agreed with Norway`s policy of employing the indigenous population and only then considering `foreigners`. Does that believe we should not have employed Tony Mowbray, Neil Lennon, Ronny Deila and Brendan Rodgers?

  24. No vote for me but I hope it is Brin for North Britain. EU can be bureaucratic stupidity. Having no control at all over borders is not that clever. But however it has achieved the main objective PEACE in Europe for the longest time, an expanded economy free trade and in general supports human rights, even if in the ridiculous at times, like when we could have funded a new hospital with the money we spent on the mad hook mullah and his brood. I would say stay in and argue the case for flexibility in things like border control , benefits and being able to throw out crims. Stay in CQN. European Cup is a pure drawfest. When only 8 drop out it is easy to see why. The knock outs should get more fun and I don’t mean chelski fans.

  25. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

Oh and how you define labour, for clarity if labour is brought in to deliberately undermine the local conditions then IMO it is wrong and will lead to conflict that only suits those who applied that strategy, neither the migrant or local labour benefit.
