  3. Once again we describe Ross county’s goal as defensive errors but hail Tony’s winner as fantastic play.

In fact despite having 2 defenders in close proximity Tony jumped unchallenged.

Conclusion – most goals are defensive errors if you replay the build up

It’s not good form to tell someone that they wouldn’t like the way that others in the group talked about them. In civilised society it’s called bullying.

    ……………

For all that I ( and you )…KNOW……Maybe many others attending a Hoot have nasty things to say about me when Im in the Toilet or at the Bar etc ?

Ive NEVER had anyone at a Hoot even TRY to bad mouth me to my face, despite me being a VERY Approachable Guy.

There are SEVERAL Chump Posters on here who would ” Run a Mile” if they were ever invited to a Hoot….and they KNOW it !

  5. Big Biton very unlucky to be subbed last night as I thought he was having a very good game.He is another who has thrived under Ange.Scales looks to be a bargain.Lot more to come from him.

My only downside was the display of Montgomery.Like Anthony, they don’t seem able to step up when asked.INot young Academy boys, been training, playing 1st team. They will regret the lost chances, which saddens me.Will get swept aside as the rebuild continues.

  6. Regarding MacKay’s comments about the added time, one would think that would favour the team with the extra man. Strange then to make sour grapes’ comments about it when it should have been to your advantage.

  7. Croftcelt.

Agreed. Indeed , this is what I said earlier:

` Why would they feel aggrieved? Could the seven minutes not have favoured them to win it against ten men?`

  8. GREENPINATA on 16TH DECEMBER 2021 6:51 AM

    Guys,

Can we not celebrate a Celtic win with an amazing last gasp goal without trying to berate and insult fellow posters.

It seems point scoring is more important than the actual game to some.

As for hoots, it was always expressed that they were open to all. I know that was the intention of the master hootsman who now overseas our other channel. A meeting where Celtic supporters of all persuasions could gather cordially and discuss all things Celtic and beyond over a few swallies.

If this has changed then CQN and SC should be told.

HH to all, the journey continues

    ……………..

So YOU would have NO PROBLEM in inviting the likes of JHB, LYNCH, MM etc to YOUR Hoose…or to have any of THEMS being part of your company in a Pub ?

Good luck to you on that one…NOT for me.

  9. What makes that win even better is the sneaking suspicion that if the penalty had been awarded it could have been missed.

Big Biton very unlucky to be subbed last night as I thought he was having a very good game.

I Posted the same after the game last night as I thought Nir Bitton was our BEST Player til he was subbed ?

  11. Life’s no been the same for some folk since the steamies shut doon. And windae hingin’s no whit it wis either.

  12. BIG JIMMY on 16TH DECEMBER 2021 9:30 AM

‘Ive a sneaky suspicion that Janovic would have SCORED with any Penalty’

    ###

Well if you were to entertain the possibility, or realise that Muir, Creggan etc might now be thinking, it could have been missed, it makes the result even sweeter.

I’m quite sure if Muir had known what was going to happen he would have awarded the penalty.

  13. Match report – 15/12/21

at Ross County, not on TV so watching on hesgoal on iPad.

We started brightly with some nice fluid passing and good possession as RC were not sitting back too much initially. Biton & Turnbull very active in midfield, both showing good skills and Big Nir seems to have speeded up his act a bit from the weekend. Callum was quiet – I think he was playing?

It soon became apparent that good passing moves were breaking down on the right side because JJ cannot cross the ball and was too quick for anybody to catch up and take a pass in the middle. He wasted 4 or 5 balls attempting to cross.

On the left, the moves broke down mainly due to AM’s inability to control the ball. Scales was a bit better but very little, apart from the goal, came in from the left. The goal was a beauty – an excellent through ball from Callum for Scales to run onto. He crossed neatly and Abada had a very easy finish. The hard bit was being there – he did that very well.

More goals should have arrived given the superiority, but poor shooting particularly by Nir + Turnbull and lots of blocks and fouls by RC seemed to disturb the rythym. Turnbull headed the ball in midfield and was caught by their number 8. Turnbull went down, the RC guy walked away & the referee ignored the foul & appeared to take issue with DT for stopping the play.

I realised again that most Scottish refs, like Allan Muir, do not give free kicks to Celtic and do not stop play for head injuries to Celtic players – DR was fortunate not to be booked.

Stephen Craigen, an absolute walloper of a commentator, saw nothing wrong with the challenge & criticised DT for going down. The other commentator was actually quite fair and spoke well. It was only when some odd advertisements came on at half time that I realised I was watching Ross County TV. Craigen’s harsh Ulster accent is an affront to Irish people, his anti-Celtic leanings are ever apparent and I remain surprised that he continues to be employed, for European games too, by BT Sport and other football outlets. He is the worst of a very bad lot of commentators on Scottish football.

After an OK start to the second half, RC brought on the bruisers – notably Jordan White – up front and they sent a few high balls towards Celtic’s left side, obviously targeting Starfelt & Scales at the back rather than CCV & big AR. The referee ignored the fouls and a couple of offsides were not given. The fore mentioned Jordan White headed one of these high balls and elbowed CS who went down in a heap. Play continued with CS down just outside the penalty area. When a break came the ref had words with CS and eventually allowed the physio on. It took several minutes to stop the bleeding & CS was booked, presumably for complaining about the elbows. No foul was given and a few minutes later Cs was sent off for a fairly innocuous foul.

The ref was notable throughout the game for preventing quick free kicks being taken, for slowing down any of our quick breakaways and for blocking Celtic’s play by getting in the way. Craigen’s commentary just became worse and worse.

At about 88 minutes, the hesgoal stream stopped & after trying to resurrect it a few times I gave up and resigned myself to the loss of another 2 points – it has been coming I thought after narrow victories over Murderwell and the Minnie’s. We are playing well enough but not converting our chances and bout putting these teams away.

I watched the end of the Arsenal game – they had a proper referee, although a couple of his decisions were a bit dubious !

I was delighted to discover later, on CQN of course, that big Tony had headed the winning goal in the 97th minute.

Joe Hart – not really tested, no chance with their goal. Pleased to see him trying to restart play quickly on occasion.

Tony R – dependable, a couple of good defensive interventions and a great winner. Can we ask for more ? Yes, his crossing had improved but with JJ in front of him he didn’t get a chance to cross.

Liam Scales – looks classy but a bit slow in reaction, both at their goal and when receiving the ball on the left wing. Needs to be able to receive, turn and make a forward pass. There is a player in there but he has a bit to go.

CCV – solid, very solid indeed.

Carl – fine except when under pressure. Unlucky to be sent off but they targeted him and he buckled.

Biton – classy but tendency to slow play down. Great passer of the ball but shocking at shooting. Needs to stop trying to score from 30 yards.

Callum – quiet & effective but not enough penetrating forward passes.

DT – playing well, skilful on the ball finds good shooting opportunities but does not convert enough of them.

JJ – not a right winger but very quick with good ball control. If he can learn to deliver a ball to the forwards from his wide position he could be very effective. Quite like the idea of JJ and big Tony in interchangeable roles on the right.

AM – completely out of his depth in this game. Odd as he did do well at left wingback in Euro games.

Abada – a trier, like him up front as he’s quick & will score lots of goals.

It’s pretty nerve wracking watching the tic these days innit !!

  14. Ange has the knack of turning a mediocre game into an epic.

Nobody would be talking about the game if we turned in a dull, methodical performance where we ground out a one goal win.

Great end to the game and one that will live long in the mind.

Many of us will remember the ” famous ” phrase. Firhill for thrills. I think we can substitute our manager for a modern day equivalent.

    Loving the journey.

    Good o ye mate.

I would join you this morning in the Pub , but Ive got the hospital tomorrow for Tests, and that why I havent been drinking since last week.

    Enjoy yersel young man.

  16. Some very angry people on here this morning, let’s hope everything is calmed down a bit for Paul’s lunch time update.

  17. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Just spoke to another Celtic fan of a similar vintage who almost did himself a mischief last night celebrating the winning goal.

The following sentiment has been grabbed and disfigured by politicians to the point of it becoming a cliché BUT …..

…. What we have in common is more powerful and meaningful than what we don’t.

    Celtic is special. Truly special.

I just love being a Celtic fan (short for fanatic).

Much better than being just a supporter.

Last night’s finale a perfect example – events like that induce sheer, unbridled, emotional, illogical joy.

Makes temporary fools of otherwise sensible people.

    Conflating that with this blog?

    Division or unity? Our choice.

In my “unkindest” moments I try to remind myself

“There are lurkers for sure but not many.

The guy/gal that wrote that comment?

Probably just a Celtic fan who loves our club as much as (or more than? I do) but whom I disagree with on a certain subject”

    🤔

    Hail hail

    Keep The Faith

  18. JIMMY BONES

I realised again that most Scottish refs, like Allan Muir, do not give free kicks to Celtic

Celtic were awarded 4 or 5 free-kicks within 25 yards of goal.

  19. MadMitch

I’ve never been to any of the Hoots either. I’m sure they are very enjoyable because a lot of good posters from here go to them and I don’t believe for a minute any of them waste any time gossiping or bitching about other Tims who might hold opposing views. I’ve read on here that everybody is welcome and that guys who have argued vehemently on CQN enjoyed each other’s company over a pint. I can quite believe that’s the way it is.

Last night was one of those Celtic moments that we have all enjoyed over the years – snatching victory from the jaws of defeat against the odds. Broony at Kilmarnock and against Hamilton and many, many more. I’m glad you’re alright. Like SFTB I was moved to having a drink after watching the game and I’m feeling slightly rough this morning. 🤣

  20. The CL money next year must be what they — TFOD2.1 / MIB / Ludge Media — are playing for.

It would appear to be the only thing that can save them.

The confetti share issues only work if someone has lent them money and the Magic Money Tree finally shuts down.

Interesting to hear a number of pundits / summarisers offering free advice on our failings / weaknesses / flaws in real time / live during matches.

It is almost as is Team TFOD2.1 is crowd sourcing our downfall in plain sight.

The contrast with the GvB love in is quite stark and highlights what we are up against.

Not just a team but a way of life / media establishment / MIB bureaucracy.

That is who we are up against — we have given life / hope and they are now going all in.

We opened the door by fighting amongst ourselves — a house divided will always fall.

And fall we did until AP turns up and gives it his best shot.

For the OF lovers on our board — how / why did it come to this?

Are the OF business levers that important to us?

Why is our club so lazy in business matters?

The season has changed in the past 4 weeks.

They are that desperate and we have provided a challenge.

Early season limited fairness / normality has been replaced by full on TFOD2.1 at any cost.

To beat them the club will need to work harder than them.

The board have to remove themselves from any suspicion that a TFOD2.1 league win suits their longer term ambitions.

DD at a strategic level — easier entry for us into the EPL.

PL / Board donkeys at a tactical level — the OF angle means no effort required to balance the books.

The suspicions are there — they need to up their game and improve the squad substantially in Jan.

    PS

When is the next “Hoot” thing that so many talk about?

Sounds like a blast — so many interesting people to talk to.

Kiltoon CSC old school rules / Fridays only — if it can pass a metal detector it is allowed?

  21. And the really good thing is :- If the game was at Parkhead most of us would have missed it 😀😀😀

  22. I have never attended a CQN hootenanny. Not a conscious decision. It just never suited at the time.

I have met several CQNers from past and present. I can think of another 4 posters and a couple of lurkers whom I know personally away from CQN.

I can’t think of a single CQNer with whom I would refuse to engage in a pub or at the game. Not one.

We can all have disagreements and even fall out, but at the end of the day it’s a blog, and we are all Celtic supporters.

    Hail Hail

  23. An Dun @ 10:20

Of course Celtic fans are angry. Are you not angry about the way Starfelt was treated by Alan Muir. Angry because we didn’t get awarded a clear penalty? Are you ok with people on Celtic blogs, not the Daily Record or the BBC ,putting down the likes of Mikey Johnston at every opportunity? Why don’t you stay cheery and happy watching the Graham Norton Show, that is about your level.

Sorry Tom McLaughlin if I miss the mark sometimes, I am new to this trolling lark….unlike some others on here………

    We shall not be moved.

  24. TOM MCLAUGHLIN

    Well said.

Re. Bitton substitution. We were chasing a winner at the time and Bitton offers nothing offensively, other than trying to copy Ryan Christies shooting .

  25. TOSB @ 10.28

Thanks for the support last night.

Very close to injuring myself last night.

When I read the comment I nearly died laughing …

And then there was the encore earlier this morning.

Totally outwith my performance zone / league.

Please note that when — back in the day — I asked to work on my “water cooler” game I decided to mug up on waterboarding as drowning involved too much paperwork.

When I read some of the comments on here I try to shake my head and walk on knowing others will have the same thoughts.

    .

Wait — there must be a song in that somewhere …

    So in AP we trust.

Well we have to as there would appear to be nobody else.

Although after last night I have decided to start my own clique.

CQN Egg Chasers — now that would be some night out.

The D7a Caledonian Society — at this rate — will last longer than the cars.

  26. I’m sure all on here who attend the”Hoots” and Golf outings enjoy themselves immensely – talking to fellow Tims is enjoyable and putting faces to names must be fun.

This is not my thing and not why I choose to post on CQN, the best Celtic blog, bar none. I have a wide circle of family & friends with whom I do ‘hooting’every other day, every other week and we have our own impromptu big ‘hoot’ every time we meet at Celtic Park

That anyone would find it remotely interesting to discuss me in absentia, amazes me – however as my Mum, God rest her, used to say ” if they’re talking about you, they’re leaving someone else alone”

    Life’s far too short HH.

  27. 2 points. Some criticizing Juranovic crossing. Not so easy to pick out a 5.7 guy surrounds by giants. One went over Abadas head, one went to the back post. Not the worst crosses I have seen.Again, not great targets.

2nd,Nirs shooting. Not on his own there. The Wizard of Oz one of the worst offenders.Balloons the ball regularly.Sometimes they go in.If you don’t try, they won’t.

Oops forgot.Turnbull’s set pieces. When is someone going to realise, these are not the boys forte.Wee Southampton guy last night,25 yards, top corner.Think he is in double figures for them now.Like Naka, there is a knack.Try Juranovic.

  28. If we had SN in the team the MIB would not be giving us free kicks anywhere near the box.

They are working a number on us throughout the season to limit our opportunities.

FK’s — direct at goal — currently very poor so keep giving them.

Counter attacks — very good so they slow us down.

They have a Monday morning conflab to work out how we are playing.

What can they do to give us the most trouble / difficulty.

Then you have the suspicions of “Buddy Ball”.

Surprisingly — for the first time this season — it looked like an accident.

A few other incidents earlier — DT in particular — we more orthodox.

Common thread — we got hurt and the MIB put the pressure on us.
