The CL is where we need to be.

Participation makes a huge difference to our financials.

We have regressed to being a selling club and that needs to stop.

Huge amount of work to be done during the summer.

The team is 3 or 4 first team starters away from being CL ready.

LB / CB / DM / B2B MF plus another CB / CF for depth.

Plus three of our current starters are loan players.

Hopefully plans are in place / candidates identified.

Any uplifts in players contracts for CL participation should be structured to our benefit. We have seen the damage that lazy managers handing out fat contracts to their favoured sons can do to the club so hopefully lessons have bee learned. As for the exec level if they want a bonus then we need to see the fruits of their efforts.

We need to be a £200mill T/O club come 2030 so we need to make the most of the CL opportunity next season — starting with winning the league.

  2. Celtic40me,

    good work, and interesting.

I have thought over the advantages, hopefully, of going straight into a group stage versus, in a business sense, those qualifiers actually bring in decent gate receipts (old fashioned terms) and the monies are not that far apart.

Next 2 years should be cash cows, it will take an almighty catastrophe to not qualify given the co-efficients and scotlands position.

I am a little suprised there hasnt been more chat around the changes coming in 2025 with an almost league structure for the competitions.

You qualify for the CL and you will have 5 home and 5 away games AGAINST DIFFERENT TEAMS, no home/aways swaps.

    imagine –

Home to Real, Dortmund, Liverpool , Sporting and Roma

Away to Lyon, Arsenal, Bilbao, Copenhagen and Malmo.

we are rich i tell ye, rich.

maybe invest something in the main stand with all this income coming.

The TFOD2.1 are working the EuL to the max because they have to.

If they don’t win they starve — so they are working every angle / turning over every trick.

You could see the hunger in their display last weekend.

The EuL is second rate compared to the CL.

However it is better to be credible in the EuL than tourists in the CL.

Hopefully we put in a shift regarding CL credibility if we get the chance next season.

There is quite a lot of dross in the CL and participation is a lagging indicator.

This season really has shown how poor it can be.

What will be our level next season?

This season’s Top 4 in the big leagues are not always next season’s Top 4.

    EPL — competitive against the 4th / 7th / 10th in the league?

    Spain — against the 3rd / 6th / 9th in the league?

    Italy — against the 2nd / 5th / 8th?

    France …

Germany have fallen off a cliff this season where do we fit in?

  4. Yeti sorry Stx2 @ 12.35

Don’t tell me you are looking at a growth agenda …

Is that the ice starting to melt?

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post, but I think you’ve either ignored it or not read it properly.

UEFA’s numbers suggest that there isn’t a huge difference between what’s likely from a CL and Europa campaign

  6. as is my want these days, watching the game without reading CQN at the sametime has become my default position, no daft distractions, no over the top criticism, and i get to enjoy the football at no point yesterday did i see a nervy performance, i saw us in control, i saw players all in together, i saw good attacking movmeents, and very few actual mistakes.

but anyways, my biggest take away from it all

    Aviemore has a Tescos ?

  7. The Champions League isn’t structured to bring big rewards to smaller clubs like us. The changes they have made have been surprisingly kind to us recently, but the CL is all about making sure the big clubs get a bigger and bigger share of the pie.

None of them are going to vote for format changes that mean we get more and they get less. Foreign investment in these clubs guarantees we’ll get squeezed out with less money from the elite competition.

Realistically over the next ten years our place is in the second tier while occasionally being allowed to sit at the top table where we’ll do poorly. To budget for participation, or speculate on it would be extremely foolhardy

  8. C40 @ 12.47

I have understood your post — it has the all the hallmarks of being a PL inspired excuse session.

The CL is a huge improvement financially compared to the EuL.

There are opportunities to spin out a CL qualification failure with EuL success if you make it far into the knock-out rounds.

However that hard worked reward involves a lot of risk for a second string reward — the CL is where the real money is and that is why the EPL / Big 5 leagues are trying to hoover up as many of the places as they can.

We work with a single minded focus regarding football and financial growth then we will be competitive in the CL — just a case that too may are now scared of the CL because of the failures of PL.

We have been competitive in the CL when we had both belief and a proper DM.

  9. I hate to say it but in footballing terms there’s far more glory in getting to the semi finals of the Europa League through the competitions group stages and knockouts than getting your arse handed to you in the champions league.

The money is nice, but we’ve shown over the last few years it isn’t essential.

I have understood your post — it has the all the hallmarks of being a PL inspired excuse session.

It hasn’t, its just the numbers from UEFA that show how much the UEFA CL distributions are likely to be worth.

  11. MADMITCH on 25TH APRIL 2022 1:01 PM

We have been competitive in the CL when we had both belief and a proper DM.

A defensive midfielder? Is that the key to everything?

  12. As Paul’s previous post declared that Dingwall result would determine title, is he oot celebrating?

  13. Magical mystery tour this season of the TFOD2.1 — why we would not want to copy it if we had CL qualification made easy for us.

Magical mystery tour — the support pay huge amounts of money for tickets to significant number of games.

Run to the EuL SF’s — 9 games with the support coughing up £2mill per game?

CL automatic place — EUFA pays us huge amounts of money for taking part.

The trick is to be competitive in the CL and not act as tourists in the “Last 16” anywhere.

Too much of our revenue comes from the home / matchday support.

EUFA must have a good laugh to themselves regarding how quickly “we” put our hands in our pockets — biggest crowds this season at how many stages of how many competitions?

  14. C40 @ 1.07

    Not likely — possible.

The CL is much more financially rewarding that the EuL.

Football progress — yes a DM is required and required quickly.

VW was the last real DM we have managed to get onto the park / into the team.

SB and CMcG are both kid ons / not real DM’s.

  15. C40 @ 1.04

The TFOD2.1 luv has too stop.

They have made the most of the EuL because they have to.

Cups are the only way they can generate extra revenue during the season.

If they don’t win cup games then they don’t eat.

No glory in making things hard for yourself.

We need the money of the CL — if we don’t have the money then we need to sell the squad.

And that way the shambles of 20/21 rolls into view.

  16. SAINT STIVS on 25TH APRIL 2022 12:35 PM

The new format only allows for one extra place for the likes of clubs like ours – an extra team coming through the champions qualifying path so one extra team from the knockouts

I don’t think it means we’re any more likely to qualify by right as champions and our country co-efficient is not likely to be good enough to guarantee it for long. The other Scottish teams are so poor w’re likely to be just in our just out of the ranking that guarantees a place.

Ten games rather than 6 will be better for us, and should mean more tv money, although thats by no means guaranteed. What you can bet on is when it comes to the carve up we’ll be at the back of the queue for handouts. This is an opportunity for the Super League clubs to make up on what they feel they lost out on.

  17. Things you learn on here.

The actual meaning of the term ‘Stag Do’

  18. WHATS IN THE STARZ…

I had a ” VISION” this morning Mate.

Celtic to win 5-0 or 5-1 against the Huns…with KYOGO tearing thems APART !

Wouldnt that be something to see ?

  19. JMB – “Parks are long-established and provide employment/livelihoods for a good number of people in Scotland”

Careful, you’re starting to sound like a nationalist.

Individuals across many businesses have all kinds of personal and separate interests, and every company in the free world has to deal with competitors. As far as I’m aware through review of Companies House and submitted accounts Parks as a company entity have no legal connection with sevco. I believe at the last set of account D Park as an individual owned around 10% of shares, so why are his personal interests dictating company policy which could affect income, share value, and shareholder renumeration?

The possible claim that advertising Cinch sponsorship would compromise a sevco contract with an alternative car dealership is easily settled by producing said contract, suitably redacted, for confirmation. If there is no such contract then Park’s actions represent a potential conflict of interest, an interest which he should have left at the door when representing sevco. This isn’t a moral matter, it’s a legal one.

  20. Only Madmitch could take a post about UEFA Champions League distributions and turn it into a discussion about the need for a defensive midfielder.

  21. !!Bada Bing!! on

Timbhoy- the assault at Alloa definitely put the Bhoy back, when he was just here, might be a bit late in the season to get up to speed now.

From earlier, no more rumours re off the field developments, signings,i think Ange just wanted to have full focus on the first team, possibly the Club are waiting to see what European money is coming in,to invest on and off the park.

  22. Celtic40Me – Excellent post on the CL income, and thanks for actually doing the background work rather than just picking a number and repeating it 50 times.

It’s worth noting that UEFA review and re-publish the renumerations for each competition on an annual basis so there could yet be some movement in your figures for season 22/23, especially as recent schemes had some provision for covid impact which may have relented. Last year’s was issued on the 20th May and linked below –

  23. BB – thanks. SO all 4 of the Japanese boys here for next season then. I remember one came on loan deal but with a compulsory buy clause.

Thought Gucci would have had more game time, especially with Hatate going backwards due to fatigue.

  24. CELTIC40ME

Thank you for taking the time to do the research and to produce the data. It is a very useful reminder to all of us as to what constitutes fact, and what is fiction.

  25. !!Bada Bing!! on

DB- agree re Gucci, maybe his injury not going away…..think the Japanese Bhoys are on 4 or 5 year deals

  26. SONSOFERIN on 25TH APRIL 2022 1:47 PM

Thanks. I had seen a deduction from this year’s amounts when Swiss Ramble (who everyone with a passing interest in this sort of thing should follow) tweeted about them. It was listed as a Covid adjustment but I didnt know what it was.

It looks like the deductions will be made from this season for 5 years so we’ll see a deduction in the amounts we receive in proportion to our total received relative to everyone else. The total deductions are the same for the next 5 years so our share isn’t likely to change much

I can’t remember if the adjustment was included in the total tv figures for English clubs. Either we receive less than what I’ve suggested or the same

You may be right about changes to the renumerations from year to year, but the totals distributed haven’t changed much if at all over the last three years, so I wouldn’t expect to see big changes

  27. SONSOFERIN @ 1:31

Parks are long-established and provide employment/livelihoods for a good number of people in Scotland”

Careful, you’re starting to sound like a nationalist.

    ——

It’s because I care about the lives & livelihoods of all people in Scotland that I have fought the Nationalists all my days. Eating flags with the a*** hanging out of their trousers is not something I want for any working person in Scotland. If there was a coherent economic plan for independence the SNPcult would be “shouting it from the rooftops’ and plastering it on every billboard it could lay its hands on. There plainly isn’t one, so they fill the air with grievance-mongering.

My defence of Park on the face of things stands – neither of us have access to the contracts. All I would say is if the SPFL/cinch have such a watertight case, why then has no action been taken against Rangers.? I’m sure the Ibrox board & shareholders are 100% behind Park in his stance – in which case whether he owns 10%, or, 50%, of shares, is immaterial. If the boot was on the other foot we’d all be supporting Celtic against the Scottish Football authorities.

Can you imagine Aberdeen under Stewart Milne displaying Wimpey, or, Taylor, or, Persimmon, on their on their shirts, or, about their stadium?
