It was as though large parts of Scotland’s media, and many Rangers fans, had decided enough was enough after Saturday’s game. Sectarian singing was reported and roundly condemned, although, inexplicably, BBC Sportscene flippantly suggested disagreeable refereeing could be a cause. It was, however, Nil By Mouth from the government on tackling this peculiar fabric of society.
A Scottish government spokesman was unable to even acknowledge Saturday’s events, giving the Sunday Herald a completely neutral comment: “We deplore sectarian or bigoted chanting at any grounds or from any fans in Scotland.”
By his own admission, Alex Salmond is busy “arguing” with HMRC and campaigning to secure Rangers’ unique place in the fabric of Scottish society – despite openly being in breach of Fifa rules which could see Celtic kicked out of the Champions League and Scotland unable to compete in the World Cup qualifiers. It would have cost him nothing to fall in line with everyone else and make it clear this behaviour is not what he is fighting for.
Issues like this are why we need a First Minister, Alex. If you have decided to go Nil By Mouth, you’re betraying the very fabric you should be cultivating. No one wants to live in a Scotland that looks like this.

Get a grip – Connolly was in the British Army when he was a child. He and many IRA men of the period were former British Army. There is an immense difference between them Fenlon. Fenlon wasn’t forced to join Linfield through a simple choice of destitution and his family starving he chose to play for Linfield because the money on offer was more than other Clubs offered him. Despite what many on here are claiming he didn’t join one of the most rabidly anti Catholic institutions in NI through any altruistic or idealistic beliefs. Did he once speak out about Linfield in all his time there?
Ask the Nationalist population of the North of Ireland what they think of Fenlon – or are they all Huns as well?

I am very sorry to hear about your experience in the barca end, sounds awful.
I currently work and live in Barcelona. Many barca fans talk of their fondness for the Celtic fans when we were here.
I met two catalans in an Irish bar wearing Celtic tops watching one of this seasons Europa league games. They said they ended up partying with the Celtic after the game in 2004 and what a great experience it was for them. They have travelled to Glasgow and been to Parkhead to catch a game.
I know a Rangers fan here, it really annoys him that you quite often see catalans wearing Celtic tops.

As you say got to be the best ever game-to win the League against them in the last game of the season with only 10 men-unbelievable!
When you think of the press reports for a view Celtic supporters versus the silence for yesterday it is staggeringly obvious that there is objectivity.
The Rangers fans are stupid to think such songs will support the cry for state aid – buffoon of a highest level.

I was in the Michael Collins for the 3-3 Killie comeback game and at the end the locals were over shaking my wee Bhoy’s hand and saying well done (he had the hoops on), he loved it.
A lot of people behaving like huns today.
We have a go (quite rightly) at the huns and Linfield for their signing policies, but if a Tim plays for them he is a disgrace.

I posted yesterday that there is a chance that Celtic can win the league on St Patrick’s day IF we win all our games and Rangers lose 2 and draw 1.
Should this come to pass I believe that IF Dundee United win at Tannadice against them on St Patrick’s Day and Celtic get a further 9 points in our games against
Dunfermline
Motherwell
Aberdeen
giving us 77 points
And they lose their matches or draw one
51/52 points
leaving Celtic 25 points in front (minimum)
there are then only 8 matches left to play which means 24 more points are up for grabs.
Now failing that Ibrox will be a decider unless the Police move the game.
St Patrick’s Weekend (2 potential trophy wins)

In my experience, and I make many trip across the water, people there want reconciliation, not the furtherance of hatred.
Leave Fenlon alone, he showed courage when many others did not.

We bumped into a big group of Spaniards on Las Ramblas the day of the game who had come up from Seville. Quite young Bhoys and Ghirls probably teenagers or early 20’s.
They were chanting Celtique, Celtique. Brought tears to my eyes. Had a chat with one of them and shared a couple of cans of beer. They said they had fell in love with Celtic after our trip to Seville. They had never seen anything like it. The guy whose name escapes me was now a massive Hoops fan after following Betis. He reckoned there were fans in Seville for 2 weeks and some that have never left!
I’m sure there is a few stories that some fans never made it back from Lisbon settling all over Europe. Some amazing things happen when Celtic travel abroad.
The Barca fans we met after the match were brilliant. Some of the Bhoys got up on the stage in their supporters club or one of their supporters bar and gave the whole Willie Maley song. The whole place went wild when they were finished. I didn’t know the guys but they didn’t buy much beer after that!

As I said mate, I didn’t help matters with my celebrations either, but I will put it down to being young and stupid.
I had a great night in the Michael Collins bar, In fact I still have the T shirt which I purchased that night, great memories, the good lady and I have good friends in Barcelona and are thinking of visiting over the coming months, I will wear my hoops with pride.

Tiny, I was at the game, too; a lovely sunny evening. Along with several mates, I ended up walking all the way back to Clydebank (via a west end hostelry pit-stop), due to the bus strike.
It was a low crowd because it was a re-scheduled tie: possible even re-scheduled twice. It was on Monday night because Rangers were tied up playing against Hibs in the Scottish Cup Final (which went to 2 replays; the last final to go to a replay).
I think the guy whom you think fainted may actually have died that night of a heart attack: I was in the jungle and remember seeing him being taken along the track on a trolly, round to the first aid post beside the main stand. He was the Dad of an acquaintance of mine from Dalmuir.
Although I think the guy was only in his fifties, if you were able to choose a time to to die, that would do for me …

I don’t know anyone in the world who lates Alex Salmond as half as much as my wife. She can’t stand the man and this goes back years. It has now reached the stage that I start to wind her up when he comes on the telly. I’ll say ” Salmond’s the best politician in Scotland. Now he’s a man who knows what he’s talking about. I’m seriously considering voting for him at the next election.” After that it’s a case of tin helmet on and dinner’s in the dug.
However, after his recent comments about HMRC getting together with RFC and striking some deal to ensure RFC survive, I can’t even bear the thought of joking about him. I can’t stand the man.
