Scottish football on solid ground

1313

Any away win by a Scottish club in the Netherlands is noteworthy but Aberdeen’s win last night is even more significant. It is a sign that a recovery is underway in one of Scottish football’s perennial underachievers. St Johnstone’s result is more of the same after last year’s achievements. Motherwell’s sorry exit is a lesson on being unprepared….

If Celtic can reach the Champions League group stage for the third successive season, there’s reason to believe our game is on solid ground after the years of excess and abandon.

I think the problem with just sticking to football, and in particular Celtic, is some posters make the same points on a daily basis – and in certain cases just bore other posters with repetition.

That’s up to them of course, and I’m sure I have made several points more than once to the annoyance of others. But we can’t all agree on everything. How dull would that be if we did?

I’d rather talk about music, old Glasgow landmarks and politics instead of transfer speculation – which is tedious to me as 95% of it is made up sh1te by clueless goons in the media.

It is possible for the majority of people on here to talk about politics, religion and even Celtic without resorting to abuse. And that is the case on CQN, which makes it the best of the Celtic forums.

While I accept some folk do not want to have politics on the blog, they have the same option as I do when it comes to certain posters making the same point for the 100th time – just hit the Page Down key.

I have not read those tomes but what if the cross cutting issue was that human beings were actually made in a God’s image ( as opposed to the other way round) and as such were only capable of doing “good”?

That being the case the only way they could carry our evil acts would be to convince themselves that what they were doing ( no matter how reprehensible) was good or in a good cause.

But with the Almighty being perceived as all that is good then it would be necessary to invoke his name in whatever cause required that justification.

Imagine there was some being in heaven or all around in spirit that had gave every human being alive all the spiritual and material resources they needed to experience a rewarding life, be it intelligence or oil or compassion or wisdom etc and he was watching how we were using our gifts through the prism of religion.

If Jesus wept you can understand why.

Point taken, but it was the speculation about signing Nakamura that made me stumble onto CQN in the first place.

    My football v politics/religion stance?

Take for example Kayal and Biton. Both signed from Israel. Do I care about their religious beliefs or their political statements of support? Not in the slightest.

I’m more concerned whether Kayal will ever recover the form that was ‘Elbowed’ out of him that night, or whether Biton can become the defensive midfield stalwart we all hoped before his injury.

    I rest my case.

There was a guy participating in the triathlon from Belize called Bob. He struggled.

I had a mate called Bob ( not Bob) who covered Belize as part of the overseas development programme in the Caribbean. He and another mate who covered Turks and Caicos islands had debates on which if the two were the definitive arseholes of the Empire.

If the Games give Bob the opportunity to rise above his surroundings and indeed above himself with his enthusiasm and attitude and if he spreads that in a world in dire need of light I just don’t care how he performed or if he won anything.

He gives as much joy in losing as the Murdoch lad did in winning. Did you see the “who me?” look on his face?

Cool more, I agree with you to an existent on this side being better overall than previous years or eras. However we lack outstanding almost world class individuals such as Henrik Larsson, Brian McClair, Judas, Cadette. Notice all are forwards and more or less each decade. So far we have been without a similar main striker for over 7 years. In most of those cases we had an almost as good partner to help out in Hartson, Sutton, Pierre! Di Canio! Andi Thom ? Rambo who don’t forget went on to Aston Villa and Bayern.

Back to middle we are almost there and on a par as we now don’t have sieve contributors. All internationalists at the back with good nations. The middle of the park could still be improved though with a good hard working box to box midfielder with a bit of height and a goal scoring touch!

A good striker is hard to find with our resources as they are a precious commodity. I worry that we will never get another one as good as Henrik.

    ::::::::::::::::::::::

Excellent post with impeccable reasoning and I also fear we will never ever get another striker like Henrik or Kenny: and if we did the longest we could probably keep them would be a season, at most
