Scottish football on solid ground

1313

Any away win by a Scottish club in the Netherlands is noteworthy but Aberdeen’s win last night is even more significant. It is a sign that a recovery is underway in one of Scottish football’s perennial underachievers. St Johnstone’s result is more of the same after last year’s achievements. Motherwell’s sorry exit is a lesson on being unprepared….

If Celtic can reach the Champions League group stage for the third successive season, there’s reason to believe our game is on solid ground after the years of excess and abandon.

Well presumably I will have to check whether a post is “relevant” before I actually post it. Do us all a favour, contact Paul and see if he is hiring a censor-in-chief. If you need a reference, get back to me, as far as I can see, you’ll fit the bill!

On Thursday I got on the 10:15 Edinburgh-Glasgow train at Bishopbriggs.

The train comprised 6 carriages, double the normal 3.

It was crammed with persons standing throughout all 6 carriages. I shudder to think what it will be like at a weekend.

Dunno your current personal situation and travelling intentions but if you or your fellow travellers need a seat you might be disappointed

I understand your point but for me an essential difference may be that we now have better quality and a coach who will both develop them further and play them to gain experience. I remain confident that things are coming together.

  9. I am a traditionalist, well I like to think I am, a bit like the Team I support. However, I am open to change. That said I have to post that I much prefer the blog just the way it is. I have tried Kerrydale Street and a couple of other blogs. Whilst I found some of them interesting, my Brain began to hurt due to trying to decipher what the various threads.

Someone who has to concentrate mentally (no jokes BT) Monday to Friday 9-5 I just want a Celtic blog where I can log on, read what is being said about my traditional Team and contribute when I want. When there are posts that do not interest I can quickly scroll on by.

I have no time for censorship but instead believe in self-policing.

Celtic are in Poland for 48 hours courtesy of a random draw of plastic balls. I and many others on here would rather hear your take on team formation, who should be playing and how you think Ronny’s tactics may/not put us into the next round.

That’s what is important – not one person’s perspective on the politics of the region the stadium is actually located. I’m pretty sure someone could put across a contrary point of view and then it gets all fruitless and a tedious argument better suited to the pub.

  11. On a lighter note… I was under the impression when my kids got older (late teens) things would become easier. I’m beginning to think my back garden is a rave and the kitchen…say no more..:(

I visited Peter Burns a couple of times when he was in LA. First time he met me at LAX I had no idea what he looked like. He said he would pick me up at the curb and would be wearing a Celtic Jersey. He moved out of the University to be a Parish Priest and then fell very unwell. He would have been walking hand in hand today with his fellow Jesuit, Pope Francis. Peter had an amazing social conscience. All very sad.

I was in Milan for most of the time of the Big List. At the beginning there was no wifi and only two computers linked to the web. The Librarian in the Institute where I worked used to give me a copy of the previous days traffic on a floppy disk every morning. Looked over all the posts while drinking a cappuccino and munching a bomboloni. Happy memories.

Most of the posters on here do not know that they are living with the wonderful service that Paul67 supplies us with now. If only the irrational negative voices and continual moaners here had been around in the bad old days before CQN. They would have been hunted!

    Scotrail aren’t coping.

The Lenzie – Queen St journey is like the Bombay Express.

I was up in the luggage rack tonight!

They promised extra carriages but it’s not enough to cope with the demand.

Despite that, yesterday morning I was papped out of an empty first class carriage for refusing to upgrade my ticket – for a one stop journey!

    Scotrail – pure dead brilliant!

I said a few months ago we should go for Craig Gordon, a couple of bloggers agreed with but most didn’t with a few of them casting up about him going up for a corner against some game in the past. Point I’m making I got that right against all the popular opinion here. I also don ‘t think FF is good enough to play in EPL. Good night

I thought similar would happen when WGS took over, and same when NL took over.

Strangely, for a guy who supposedly didn’t give youth a chance, undef MoN, McManus, Maloney, Wallace, Beattie , McGeady and Marshall all made their debuts, and off the top of my head, we got £15m + in transfer fees.

MoN’s view was they had to be good enough, rather than they got a game because it was a Celtic tradition.

My disappointment in our youth system would be offset if every couple of years we were bringing in £2m for guys who didn’t quite make it.

Sadly, that isn’t the case, we are not producing first team players nor, guys we can sell for a few quid – Ajatic couldn’t get a game at Shrewsbury , and similar for McGeough at Coventry.

In saying all that, I hope you are correct, and I am wrong

Just home today from a wonderful family holiday in Spain. Highlight was last weekend when my son and I attended the Benicassim Rock Festival, each of us wearing the hoops. The locals were mainly Villareal fans and treated us like Kings. COYBIG and Celtica was all we heard from the groups we passed. The Villareal fans I spoke to watch all our matches, and knew more about us than some Scots Tims. Was amazed by their love and knowledge of Celtic.
