“Sell Out Saturday, show everyone the SPL doesn’t need the Old Firm to thrive”. Discuss.
You have to admire the Aberdeen fans, and fans of every other club in the league, even Kilmarnock fans, who are clearly infuriated by the actions of their chairman. For perhaps the first time in history they have stood up to their clubs and football administrators and effected real and genuine change in our game.
Aberdeen fans produced this Sell-out Saturday graphic, urging people to “show everyone the SPL doesn’t need the Old Firm to thrive”. By ‘Old Firm’ I am sure they don’t mean the cash-cow rivalry Celtic had with Rangers, they mean without Rangers, and without Celtic too.
For every other club in the SPL, Celtic are now their most precious visiting brand. For fans of every other club in the SPL, Celtic are a competitive irrelevance. This season our income is likely to be greater than that of every other club in the league. We pay superstar wages while, for the most part, they pay real world footballers real world compensation.
In short, the SPL doesn’t need the SPL to thrive. The clubs may (or may not) believe they need Celtic to pay bills, but recent events have demonstrated that might not be the case.
There is another problem to consider. If the SPL keeps Celtic, in a decade or so they will have Newco-Rangers, and the whole dysfunctional business will start all over again. Kick Celtic out now and Newco-Rangers will never materialise in the manner it would if Celtic remained.
SPL fan power has one more club to sort out.

This is embarrasing. Nothing ever seems to be learned by these players, same wrong passes and same mistakes.
Ajax goalkeepers will never have such an easy afternoon again this season.
back three now of Wilson, Wanyama and Lustig….
theres the fourth ….

The optimists will have a field day.
I’ve just got home and logged in to find out how the Bhoys are doing… and this doesn’t sound good!
Let’s look at the positives though:
1. It’s only a friendly.
2. It will demonstrate to the players, the management and the board that there will need to be a huge improvement in the next couple of weeks if we are to have any chance of compensating for the drop in our domestic income by playing Champions League games at Celtic Park this season.
3. Rangers are dead.
Nice little run out ….. That’s 36 goals in pre-season for Ajax …… Will give CQN a miss for the next few hours…….give all the doomsday merchants a wee bit of space …..LOL
I cant believe the greeting on here over a friendly.
Most of you could probably count on one hand the number of games you attended last season…
you need sopcast installed

Save son!!!
yes its just friendly for ajax, surely they will be wanting a sterner test.

playing against lesser teams will not help to improve our team, playing against better team should. the money generated could be used to reduce debt, develop the old london road school etc… to increase revenue year on year which could indirectly improve our preformances in europe by adding money to playing budget.
half this team wont be with celtic in 3 years, others will come in and take their place
Guys
It’s well established that Paul67 gets a lotta grief when live links to games are posted on the blog
Ajax are good but lets face it they’re nae Brechin.
Ajax putting on 6 of their youths now.
Mass changes for Ajax.
They must think the game is won.
Did they just make 6 subs there?
Mo and Daryl are on, we will walk it now…
We should keep the wans that can walk hame
Posted yesterday that Lenny is out of his depth at this level and that Helsinki will put us out.
He is not able to raise the team to the next level never mind the 3 levels we need.
Helsinki players are paid an average of £40k per year in a higher cost economy. They will be too strong for our highly paid superstars.
Hope Pedro will use some of his bonus to buy one of the centre hals we have been waiting on like the second messiah.
No surprises , none at all.
An SPL team gets gubbed off a medium tier European team, why are we outraged?
The SPL is a footballing backwater where good players leave or drop to an astonishing level of immobile performance. Other teams of our size, and I include Ajax, Porto, Benfica , Dortmuund in that group have better , more gifted players.
The limit, absolute limit ,of our clubs ambition is qualifying for the CL, the concept of competing there is miles away from our players and our board.
If you understand this ,then the pain is slighly less hurting. By the way , who gives a feck what the MSM will make of this ?

He done not bad in an extremely tough europa group last time, to be out of his depth.
The real games are the time to judge, not now.
Why all the angst at this Ajax score ? We never do well pre-season. It’s almost a tradition. Some people will be wanting cracked crests next.
Final sentence is hilarious…
Rangers will take part in the Ramsden
Cup for the first time in their history.
The first game is away to Brechin City in
the first round next Sunday 29th July
2012. The game is live on BBC Alba.
The first round is split into two regions…
North East and South West. Rangers
you would expect to be in the South
West region but as they replaced
Dundee they are in the North East
section. The cup features all 30 SFL
clubs plus 2 highland league teams. The
first round draw is as follows:
North-East
Brechin City v RANGERS
Falkirk v Stirling
Montrose v Inverurie Loco Works
Peterhead v East Fife
Elgin City v Arbroath
Forfar v Dunfermline
Wick v Raith Rovers
Cowdenbeath v Alloa
South-West
East Stirling v Ayr United
Greenock Morton v Albion Rovers
Berwick Rangers v Queen’s Park
Dumbarton v Queen Of The South
Hamilton v Airdrie United
Stranraer v Stenhousemuir
Annan v Livingston
Clyde v Partick Thistle
The Ramsden Cup aka Scottish League
Challenge Cup has been going since
1990 and has been known as other
names such as B&Q Cup, Bell’s Cup and
Alba Cup. Falkirk are the most
successful club having lifted the trophy
four times. The final is usually played at
a smaller venue such as McDermiad
Park or Fir Park rather than Hampden,
although if Rangers made it to the final
it may go to Hampden.
AsonofDan
Your imbecilic pish is nauseating
HH
We look lacking in shape and purpose.
Their goalie could have sat in the stands as he has not had a save to make.
Understand no shots if we were playing a defensive system.
ASonofDan
That’s lovely. You can just hear Gordon Smith’s spin on it – ‘Rangers’ have the chance of winning three cups at Hampden, so it’s great in Division 3.
Commons brushed aside. Worrying lack of strength through out the whole team.
We just dont have what it takes to play at European level, speed, strength etc.
Stephbhoy
Too much a gap to improve imho
Realistic goals not impossible ones are always more positive.

If we don’t qualify for either the CL or EL group stages half of these players won’t be with us at the end of this season! With nothing better than a couple of trips to Tynecastle to look forward to domestically in the coming few seasons, without European group stage participation to keep them interested and motivated, the likes of Ki, Kayal, Izaguirre, Wanyama, Forster, Matthews, Hooper and Samaras will be off abroad or to the EPL or Championship at the first hint of serious interest from another club.
ah well thats that!
hail hail
Only one word for that 90 minutes
* Embarrassing*
Bearing in mind the score tonight, I would have expected to see more comments on here from fans of The Formerrangers.
I guess they’re lurking on Brechin City Quick News.
Is it finished yet?
We’re DOOMED
Celtic First
Celtic Last
Celtic Evermore
Roll on Real Madrid.
Algarvian judgement will be the Helsinki game and based on what has happened in pre season plus lack of strengthening it does not augur well. We have released (correctly) a number of players , however we have not fixed the sieve ( even polish players transfer was cancelled).
Peter Lawwell runs Celtic in every aspect , with Lenny just picking the Team. Lenny will need to fight hard to get money to strengthen the Team. When I say he is out of his depth , I include dealing with our CEO.
This team needs 2 centre halfs and a striker and has done for 2 seasons. No sign of this being addressed , which means failure in Europe.
This is still the same young team that started badly in the Euro campaign last season.
IMO we will still beat Helsinki, although CL is probably a bridge too far this season. I would prefer to see us in the Europa just now.
I’ve missed all the post match moans..
Been too happy and positive on here for too long.
Lubo.
Positives: Forster 3/4 good saves. Wanyama good. Twardzik couples of nice touches. didnt panic, no support.
Negatives: A lot of guys not capable at this level. Against the Ajax youths for the last 15 mins and not even a snifter of a consolation goal. Nothing up front. Why Murphy on? Bangura on left wing? Defence mince lucky it was only four.
Will the support be happy with just the league to play for all season?
