Semi-pro circuit a weak challenge for youths

196

A one-season trial in the Lowland League for Celtic’s B team, the fifth tier of Scottish football, got the green light yesterday.  It will present nowhere near the level of challenge I think our youth players need, but at least they will face men, not aspiring boys who themselves may end up on the semi-pro circuit.

They need to compete against sides the calibre of the Falkirk team that visited Celtic Park on Scottish Cup duty last month.  They are currently mid-table in League One, but have the wherewithal needed to test and develop the best of Celtic’s youths.

There was a hope that the current economic position of the SPFL’s lower league clubs would make them agreeable to any opponent that could muster more than a dozen visitors per game, but despite the financial argument, online fan pressure groups like to say “no” to pretty much anything, so that proposition never got off the ground.  We will see if the impact of forgoing this income to the benefit of the Lowland League changes minds going forward.

If you want Passive-aggressive EL is your man

I just disagreed with your view

Celtic FC can put fans first, reach out to help those who need it, that would be my Celtic

Wealthy PLC board members could assist even a billionaire maybe

That what I call a family

    Your a bottom line dude

  2. Balancing the Club values and the books ain’t easy. And we still have the foundation, but, it’s a huge sum of regular revenue to lose.

Yes and i responded with figures and the reality.

You would have told Brother Walfrid his feeding the poor plan was unaffordable, all money to buy players it’s unfortunate and sad the kids are starving but hey ho that’s the reality

Do you get weans to clean your chimney

  4. Social responsibility hugely important for me with our club.

How are you proposing we make up that £30 million shortfall?

How do we tell the stockmarket?

Social responsibility hugely important for me with our club.

Only with condescending patronising platitudes, virtual signalling I am really a good guy

How are you proposing we make up that £30 million shortfall?

Pathetic scaremongering using fag packet accountancy doesn’t rock my boat, dismissing Celtic fans who have real fears facing the double whammy of Covid (furlough ending) and Brexit this year, Motherwell are leading the way in which I would like to see my club show compassion and real added value to a support who overpaid substantially for a poor TV channel by looking at the finances compassionately to help those in need for next season

How do we tell the stockmarket?

By using the correct protocols, we inform the stock market when it opens in the morning before telling the fanbase what’s happening with next season scheme to help with season tickets,,,,,,,,,,,,,simple

  6. Sorry but your attempts to discredit me are coming across excessive. Something else bothering you?

50000 x average @ 550 (some higher closer to 650 but taken into account concessions at all end of the scale to average.)

    Equals £30 mill

4500 Motherwell season tickets at say £400 (max) equals £1.8 million. Half the Turnbull money.

Yes they are. I heard the CEO of Motherwell on the radio. He spoke well and sounded in tune with the fan base. Our board could learn a few things

Pyscho anaylsing mind games ? OK

Are you paranoid, do you think every reply to you is OTT ?

Could it be your fascination with the bottom line, profit margins, being money-oriented

We are just different I see people you see only money

We want a different Celtic, I want a compassionate club

  10. PAUL THE SPARK on 11TH MAY 2021 8:04 PM

Of course, as their board is made up of fan representatives, they have fundamentally different aims to any plc board.

I’m not saying it isn’t a great gesture and it’s one that it would be good to see other clubs follow but they are in the enviable position of being able to make up the million pounds in cash they lose from season ticket sales with one of the three payments they’ll receive from Celtic. They’re debt free except to their trust and I would imagine they’ve been able to take advantage of government Covid schemes to keep their losses down. They dont have the same pressures to win as us, and they aren’t trying to attract a new manager with the promise of being 30m down in possible transfer budget

I’m not suggesting this is purely selfish but as a fan-owned club aren’t they just using money from Turnbull’s sale so they themselves don’t have to buy season tickets?

  11. Lionsroar, i love our foundation, I’m hugely passionate about equality. I’m afraid you don’t know me so can’t define who I am.

Just pointing to figures and shortfall. Different make up like Celtic40Me has alluded to.

Big 3 points tonight for Leicester against Man Utd reserves.

Think they are just about there for the Champions League spot.

I fancy a full strength Man Utd to best Liverpool later this week.

    Well done Brendan Rodgers.

Hopefully, if a CL bound Leicester come sniffing, we’ll get top dollar for the couple of players BR fancies.

But they want multi million pound players from everywhere on the globe.

It’s an apples and pears comparison, Celtic players are paid in thousands and bear no resemblance whatsoever to Motherwell. The same fans congratulating Motherwell will slaughter Celtic when they can’t afford the player they want.

The Celtic wage bill is just about covered by ST holders when there is 52,000 of us, and against 4,500 it’s a non sequitur.

  16. Just off Skype to my mate in Peterborough, the guy who gave me the info on Ivan Toney. His son works at the club.I was asking him about, their striker,Johnson Clark Harris. He said that they have not missed Toney at all since this boy came in.33 goals this season.Says he is very like Benteke, strong as an Ox,and a great finisher.Great in the air.How much?He does not know, but he will be leaving ,no doubt.Says after missing out on Toney,we would be mad not to try for him, probably around 3 million,he thinks.Says we should also take,Siriki Dembele,as well,as they are deadly together. His words,if you don’t,someone else definitely will.

Dont shoot the messenger,he was 100% bang on about Toney.

  17. for all the sniping and the targeting and the feeling of being let down, I want to apoligise to Shane, it just didnt work out, he came with high hopes, maybe it just was all overwhelming.

Most of us put in £600 at least, average wage in Scotland is average salary is just over £30,000, after tax your taking home £24,000 ish.

ergo Celtic supporting season book holders put 4% of their salary into Celtic.

If the billionaire shareholders would do the same, that would be much appreciated.

I agree it doesn’t compute for us.

Only other solution is to rely on youth setup to produce regular first team players, (which ultimately I would love) but we are not, sadly, at that level……yet. Here’s hoping…..

It’s getting down and getting dirty with Soft Loan FC that caused the problems, as well as won the nine.

No club wins it’s league indefinitely, we slipped it took one liquidated club and a full ten years, for ‘them’ to catch up.

I agree we should step back, and go Jong Ajax, and stop wasting millions on badly chosen personnel.

  26. Why does the Celtic Ghirls team play at K Park in East Kilbride rather at Barrowfield or Lennoxtown,we are a good club who help other clubs ,but get nothing but abuse from them that support them,ASCOM saying Howe will be named tomorrow as the next coach of Celtic Football Club.
