Serious Treble Threat, material loss

624

Pretty gutted for Inverness keeper Dean Brill, who will miss the Hampden Scottish Cup semi final with a dislocated knee.  We saw enough from the Highlanders on Saturday to know they pose Serious Treble Risk, but you want to beat teams at full strength.

Anyone who tells you Celtic suffered a material loss due to Rangers liquidation is blowing out his bum.  We lost some revenue but we’ve not been in such good shape, financially and on the field, in years.

I I could argue it was the best thing to happen to Celtic in the last 48 years but we’ll have the decades to come to ponder the full impact.

The Memorial Stone for CQNers no longer with us has now been fully funded with circa £500 left over for Mary’s Meals. A humbling effort, well done to all involved, especially TBJ.

An unusual note of realism from Jackson:

    ******

I think that article is a sleekit piece “journalism”.

Ostensibly, it is about inviting King to let the Bears know of his plans. Fair enough.

However, the gist of the article is about swinging the F&P decision in his favour, by Dermot Desmond applying pressure on Peter Lawwell to use his “influence” on the Board.

He also misquotes Desmond as ” needing” Rangers and quoting the ” two years loss of £10m” to Celtic.

The £10m that PL stated was based over two years, citing the £100 reduction on Season Tickets, plus match day income for four fixtures against RFC, etc.

He could easily have written that Celtic have adjusted their financial model to suit the circumstances, thereby dismissing any notion of them being needed.

No club in Scotland needs RFC.

Another disingenuous bit was the introduction of King’s alleged legal position re his tax convictions was to suggest that in SA, tax convictions were really just a way for the authorities to collect revenue and the jail terms were an irrelevance….and the £40m was more or less a fine.

His bottom line was that PL could be corrupted to ensure that the Coronation can take place.

If Desmond had that control over Lawwell then Roy Keane would be in the Celtic dugout today.

    Errrrr, who said that?????

  7. Allyhuntersgloves on

Paul, re “blowing out his bum” I was in the company of a director of an SPL side last weekend. He was in the boardroom at CP as his team visited us in the last month or so. He tells me Bankier was going on about the £8m PA Celtic are losing with TRIFC not being in the league. That’s more than ” some revenue”. Which makes me think, if it’s not true why is he saying it ? and making a big deal about it.

Interestingly he also told me they were desperate not to be in the playoff as they don’t think whatever SPFL Premiership team ends up in a final v TRIFC will be allowed to win it…………

  8. How can we be losing £10 Million due to lack of huns when we get circa (almost guaranteed 6 home Euro fixtures and associated income?

So they’re assuming that TRIFC will be in the final, which I wouldn’t say is a given. Even with mibbery afoot.

You could attribute all sorts of lost revenue to lack of them. Lower ST sales (might just be the economy), lower sponsorship/ad revenue (might just be the economy) and so on and so on.

It’s one of those things where you could say opposing things to different people and both could be true.

  13. Mcgeady rumours

I doubt everton are too interested in forrest to be honest.

Love to see celtic fans line up as players but not sure if i would want to see most of our wage budget spent on aidan. We have other areas that need more attention to be honest. Especially if we lose our centre backs.

  14. Re the huns and the play-offs, the fix is in. Nothing surer.

They will be polluting the SPL next season if the pondlife survive that long.

    Sickens me.

    “Keech Jackshun” indeed.

Like Charlie Nick was sitting here looking at the Championship tables and thinking that Livingston have been deducted points for “financial irregularities” whilst another “CLUB” is trading whilst insolvent with no sanctions whatsoever imposed.

    Wonder what the difference is????

  16. mike in toronto on

Some thoughts on this morning’s article, and some comments on the weekend…

    1. Paul writes, “Anyone who tells you Celtic suffered a material loss due to Rangers liquidation is blowing out his bum.”

Does this include PL? He is reported to have said that, ““The lost money which Rangers, and now Hearts and Hibs, have taken out of the game, has been made up from profit from selling players. Our revenues have stayed the same from selling players to make up for those lost millions.”

Now, losing ‘million’s is still losing millions, even if we were able to ‘make that up by selling players’. The millions that we lost are still lost, and the millions we gained (and which then were used to pay the electricity bill, for example, could have, and otherwise would have, gone to buy and pay better players.

The Board should come clean on the financial issue, and what PL meant by this. Statements like this which are materially incomplete and/or misleading do not assist. PL is going to make statements like above, they have to be accurate and clear

You go on later to say that “[the loss of R*****S was the best thing to happen to Celtic in the last 48 years but we’ll have the decades to come to ponder the full impact.” I agree 100%, and I think I know where you are going with this argument.. If I am correct, that is a related issue, but that does not necessarily make the first statement correct. It depends on how one defines ‘the best thing’ and, as you say, over what time period.

On so many levels, mostly social … the country will be better without a spearhead/repository for hatred… and financially, we dont need them ….. but, I think you need to tell PL and NFL that.

    2. Talks about tactics …3-5-2, etc….. it doesn’t matter where people stand … its where and when they move, and we dont move smart. We need to work on this. Related to this ….

    3. Aiden McGeady for James Forrest? …. Both are abundantly skilled, but, for me, they are both lacking football intelligence … RD has us playing more of a team pressing game … but , like the spartans, that system only works if everyone knows their role and where they should be … if one guy is in the wrong place, the whole framework can fall ….. we are getting that with RD, in terms of closing down, but we still need to really develop that instinct when we are going forward ….. I just dont think AMcG brings that football intelligence … he has bags of skill, but doesn’t really know how or when to use it to allow the team to get the best out of it ….. too many times, he would beat someone, then run into a dead end ….. I love his skill, but I think the money could be better spent elsewhere ….

  17. Certainly the best think where Celtic is concerned to have happened to me in the last 45 years…!
