Serious Treble Threat, material loss

624

Pretty gutted for Inverness keeper Dean Brill, who will miss the Hampden Scottish Cup semi final with a dislocated knee.  We saw enough from the Highlanders on Saturday to know they pose Serious Treble Risk, but you want to beat teams at full strength.

Anyone who tells you Celtic suffered a material loss due to Rangers liquidation is blowing out his bum.  We lost some revenue but we’ve not been in such good shape, financially and on the field, in years.

I I could argue it was the best thing to happen to Celtic in the last 48 years but we’ll have the decades to come to ponder the full impact.

The Memorial Stone for CQNers no longer with us has now been fully funded with circa £500 left over for Mary’s Meals. A humbling effort, well done to all involved, especially TBJ.

  1. Watched interesting docu today about colonial Gaddafi .. anyone on here know much about the situation.

Seems the Usual.. yanks used the media etc to whip up a storm and claim he was attacking his own people etc and that his people hated him.

But in reality he was loved and he was targetted it because of his natural resources and looking to drop the doller.

Mate told me all about it ages ago but i only got round to watching a docu on it today.

Be interesting to hear from people who know a little of what happened or their opinion.

  3. People forget that pre liquidation crowds were already down at CP. Season book sales were already slowing. The days,of 58k at every home game were already over.

    Why?

  4. Totally agree with the point that Rangers have probably positively impacted Celtic finances since they went into liquidation.

There is no way that year after kier entry to European football with out any real competition domestically can be anything other than very positive for the clubs financial position.

Lawwell Will have his own agenda for pretending otherwise but it is perfectly clear to anyone with half a brain that Celtic are enjoying a Financial Heyay despite the downturn in attendances.

I can only imagine that this advantage will become greater in the coming years as their rewards for reaching European competitions increase.

That’s why we don’t need no Rangers

    Geordie

I acknowledge that, but when PL talks about $10 million a year, we are not talking “some revenue” given how much that means to the club over all. And it cant simply be passed off (by Paul, and not even by the club …. although, increasingly, I do get the sense that CQN seems to be a way to pass along the club’s views unoffically) as pocket change ….

More importantly, I thought, after Fergus, that Celtic were in a position to kick down the doors of the old boys clubs …. both those that ran Celtic and those that ran Scottish football …

however, under PL, it seems that there is still too much that is being done behind closed doors, and cheap jokes/playing to the audience has replaced open communication.

I am hoping that efforts of connaire and Morrissey will bear some fruit and we will see some real change aided, if not lead, by Celtic … but for now, Celtic seem to be happy with the old system, with minor modifications to benefit celtic financially …. but, to me, putting lipstick on a pig … is still a pig.

  7. SD and cheat make an agreement for a loan

SD loans £5M with the possibility of another £5m to cheat

SD garuntees loan to cheat with ownership of the symbols of cheating

cheat defaults on loan to SD

cheat rolls of sorts of kack in glitter but in essence confirms they presently do not hold the symbols of lying, deceit and cheating.

no one asks cheats why another company holds The rights to their symbols of skankery?

Have they defaulted on a debt?( ah now this is cheats international)

Are the Cheat a going concern?

Has the glib and shameless liar any plans for his new club as MA/SD appear to have most of the income streams sorted.I think SD by removing the patents means they can not come back as….eh….cheats,also dents the convicted criminals attempts to Jet his new club into a wall,liquidation2,and arise again.

  8. Don’t get me wrong i want rangers, newco, sevco, sport direct, huns or who ever they are calling them selves this week to be dead buried and gone. Forever.

let me be the one who shoots the silver bullet into them!

    Regarding the claim

“but we’ve not been in such good shape, financially and on the field, in years.”

I would like to address the fitba side of that and I guess you are alluding to an impending domestic treble?

IMO qualification for the CL last 16 plus winning the title is much better than the domestic treble

I personally dont agree that winning some domestic games vs some inferior opposition is a better achievement that qualifying from the CL group stages into the last 16

Nay, qualification for the group stages plus winning the title is still a higher achievement than the domestic treble!

That doesn’t mean i don’t want to win the domestic treble, but surely our CL successes of recent years rank higher than a SC and LC with no huns around.

  9. Geordie Munro on

    Mike,

When I read pl’s comments that we “could have lost 10m quite easily” I read that as we aren’t losing 10m

Some others read it as ‘we are losing it and are missing rangers’

You make sound points regarding the non-development of A McGeady and j Forrest in terms of football intelligence.

I hope you have your tin hat on because criticism of “Jamesie” and even more so “Aideniho” is not allowed on here.

If a EPL team came calling with a cheque north of £6m for Forrest I’d be happy to do business.

If Everton think they can swap/dump an underachieving 28-y-o McGeady for IMO a similar player who has the advantage of 4 years more ahead of him, I’d chase them.

IMO McGeady has relied on skill and trickery throughout his entire football career, by the look of it since juvenile days. He shows little if any sign of having added anything, in terms of intelligence or tactical awareness, to his game over the years.

To be honest, I wonder whether RD would see any role for him in front of what he already has at the club.

McGeady stays fitter. Aiden was our main man when he was at the club. the ideal player for unlocking packed defences.

Aiden was the best prospect I have ever seen and has had a reasonable career. I’d play him ahead of forrest, and Stokes etc every day of the week.

The MSM guff about Celtic losing out without “Rangers” is just the latest version of their lie that Scottish football needs a strong “Rangers” back (sic) in the top league.

It started off with the five clubs that would go to the wall if “Rangers” weren’t in one of the top two leagues. Errrr……

Then it was Celtic needing “Rangers” for competition. Last I checked, Aberdeen were a lot closer to Celtic than “Rangers” were to Hearts in the division below.

Then it was the Scotland national team that would suffer. Hasn’t happened. Quite the opposite in fact.

So they have to go and invent something else equally mythical.

    Will be something else next.

re: tin hat. Thanks for the concern…. but, for me, CQN is a blog … my favourite football blog (and one for which I thank our host) … but, at the end of the day, it is just a blog …. and I am just a fan/poster…. who comes on here to shoot the s**t with other fans….my opinion is just that … an opinion (with the occasional truth or fact sometimes mixed in)

if people agree, great… if they dont, even better (cause I enjoy the discussion, and I sometimes learn something new ) ….

I dont mind people disagreeing, and I dont even mind being shown to be wrong (in fact, I welcome learning something new) …. as long as people are polite in how they talk to each other …. fortunately, most people on here are about that, so I enjoy the craic …

Celtic being beat domestically should be a very rare occurrence given our financial advantage.
