SFA double down with Scottish Government

240

This morning’s CQN story on the discrepancy of how the SFA and Scottish Government treated Celtic, after Boli Bolingoli’s break of rules, and Newco, after their second breach, this one involving five of their players, illustrates what we are up against.

The SFA took 18 days to ban Bolingoli, whereas with Tavernier injured and a ban-awaiting Patterson the only remaining right back, the Association took 45 days to respond and issue their bans.

Nicola Sturgeon took to the podium to express her anger when postponing two Celtic games following the Bolingoli incident, whereas she had a Government spokesperson “commend” Newco for swiftly acting at their first incident.  The second Newco incident saw the First Minister talk only about her ambivalence to “Celtic and Rangers [sic.]”.

If she does not see the disconnect between her words and actions it speaks volumes of what she is prepared to overlook.  I am not a fan.

  1. Hot Smoked 1pm .

Afternoon J , I hope all is well with you and yours.

The solution you speak off , leaking why they’ve taken this route to CQN, would require honesty , transparency and ( hopefully) an admission that they’ve fecked it up .

    They won’t.

Auldheid wrote recently that when he embarked on the Res12 campaign, they knew that the SFA was the source of all governance problems.

Sort out the SFA , and The Rangers couldn’t cheat with no consequences.

The bit he didn’t expect, was the rotten eggs inside the boardroom at Celtic Park.

The Old Firm lives on , because that’s what makes the easy buck .

They reckon the Celtic supporters are to emotionally involved with Celtic to walk away .

What we argue about on here isn’t actually a sport any longer. When the rules of sport aren’t applied , it stops being sport.

Our silence is complicit . The rest is just noise .

    Sad stuff. HH

  3. David Murray wanted celtic liquidated. Of that there is no doubt. Dead and buried and never to be seen again.

We had an overdraft of £5m.

Rangers had enormous debt. It stands at around £170m today. They broke the rules on player registrations and stole tens of millions from the tax payer.

Our board wanted rangers to remain in the spl. They were focused on how no rangers would affect bonuses, dividends and share price. Honesty and sporting integrity didn’t come into it.

I agree with all (most) of what has been said so far. But surely the way forward is for ALL clubs to call it out, not just ours. They can’t all be closet Huns, can they?

    ——

In my experience of supporters of other clubs, a depressing number subscribe to the ‘ugly sisters’, ‘two cheeks of the same arse’, ‘ones as bad as the other’ characterisation.

And given DD’s syrupy prose about the fine institution, our complicit and/or explicit actions to facilitate their resurrection and our corporate deceit ref Res12, I have little with which to refute them.

    HH jg

  5. MCPHAILBHOY@ 1:27 am

Agreed, ALL Clubs must call it out not just Celtic.

Look what happened to our only allie” Raith Rovers” Turnbull Hutton and family under police protection and threats to burn their stadium to the ground.

Alex Thomson, Channel 4 “investigative journalist” came up North to do a report on the Corruption & Scandal in Scottish football. Got his chorus and verse down south to safety and never heard from again.

We are on our own and need to regroup in the summer, lick our wounds and come out fighting. Long live the NEW MANAGER,whover it is HH

  6. !!Bada Bing!! on

Fess 19- hopefully our new manager isn’t left to field questions, that are a CEO/Board issue, which happened under the coward Lawwell.

  7. angelgabriel

Well said, that sums up the situation.

The gamble from our board is simple.

    Supporters are in too deep.

It doesn’t matter that the whole thing

is being shown as a complete charade.

  8. Paul67 says he is not a fan of Nicola Sturgeon; given her recent track record, I cannot fault him. She has shown bias, conscious or not. My problem is that I can’t see any party leader in Scotland daring to be anything else. We are dealing with Scotland’s shame, which each and every politician in Scotland, including in my opinion those of an Irish/Catholic or Celtic persuasion , avoids like the plague, especially during the time leading up to an election.

Faced with that, what is the point of our CEO speaking out. Is there anyone else in Scottish football like the Raith Rovers chairman prepared to put their necks on the line or even want to?

  9. FrankTerry,

Thanks for the podcast link. I’m a fan of Blindboy and love Adam Curtis’ docs – haven’t got to his bbc ones yet though.

I’m currently loving Sam Harris’ Making Sense podcast. He’s a neuroscientist and philosopher and gets on some amazing guests.

A few excellent ones of late have been on effective altruism, there’s no free will and Psychedelics and the self.

He’s well worth a listen, especially if you like Adam Curtis IMO

  10. Paul 67,

Why didn’t we ” leak ” the Dubai E Mails showing the Scottish government allowed us to go.

In fact they gave us advice, and subsequently set us up.

We let a ” rattled ” NFL face the media when it should have been our legal representatives.

It’s objective achieved the SG can now sound magnanimous without upsetting potential hun voters.

    All about integrity, right?

Your wee Nats leader said summit like “…the next time it’s a red card.” But it was far from that. Ergo, gemme is rigged, dice are loaded, barrels are bent.

Know who I’d like as our next signing? The Slavia media relations team who – facts of the matter yet proven – are protecting their brand, protecting their player and not letting the Sevvies trash their name or pull their tricks without a challenge, denial or outing of the slippery Soo’side manoeuvres.

They have a stance and a spine. How limp our guvnors look in compare.

Thats excellent, I would love that to happen, the corruption at UEFA and FIFA needs to be addressed.

Or if it can’t be sorted clubs and countries should start breakaway movements, the decision to host the world cup in Qatar is probably the most corrupt decision ever in world sport.

  17. I don’t think there is anything dog whistl-ey about Paul’s leader.

It’s intent and meaning are quite clear.

It may be partial, slanted or biased but it is not, in any way, a coded message.

It is possible to believe, as I do, that the Scottish Government has not been even handed in its dealings with football clubs on Covid regulations AND to believe that Celtic’s Noard let us down on all issues arising from The liquidation of Old Rangers.

I do not seek to excuse either of these bodies or engage in whataboutery in comparing them.

On a day where the British Government leajed the Report on Race equalities, led by two deniers of Structural Racial Inequality, the conclusions are unsurprisiing, though palpably false. You don’t have to be too intelligent to see through the determined lies of a determined liar. You know them by their words and actions.

Similarly, Nicola Sturgeon being in the wrong does not excuse DD or PL for their sins of omission and active obstructions, and, vice versa.

I have often thought that what seems to be the case is , in fact, not. That being so, I can just about accept that maybe there is a necessary reason why Celtic seem so unwilling to challenge the seemingly blatant bias against us and in favour of Sevco. What I find much more difficult to accept is why we, the support, cannot be given this information through `leaked` reports to CQN etc.

Well said, I have come to exactly the same conclusion. Thinking about rationally, it all went wrong when the bigots went down. Before that, we had the decades of cheating, EBT’s and all that. When hunman went down, who did all they could to stop them going totally tits up, exactly, Celtic.

Been thinking for a while that, and I’ve said it on here before, the ” Old Firm inc” is bigger than both clubs, and money being money, resulted in us taking our usual blind eye. All the work Resolution 12 guys did, surprisingly came to nothing. I love Celtic, always have, always will .

Thinking back to the 60’s and 70’s sure we had our problems with them and the cheating hunnery that is the masonic refs form their ludges but nothing like this.

Ask one question. Would they have done it for us??????????????????????

  28. Celtic PLC is under fire at the moment and correctly so, it has been an annus horiblis of a season categorised by a catalogue of failure, Lawwell fell on his sword but still remains in situ, Lennon had to be removed with a fanbase in disbelief at his delusional take on the teams’ performances this season.

Our absentee landlord is in a very unhappy state as like Lennon he is delusional in coming to terms with the source of the club’s failures, bizarrely he does blame a section of the customer base which does not believe the great desmondo walks on water, I have witnessed personally an example of this recently, his manner and attitude to heart and soul Celtic fans is a disgrace.

In this context and with mounting pressure on some announcement from the Board on any progress of change within the clubs’ football dept, we get today’s article from Paul67, in December 2020 we were told there was a review? 4 months later ? No news on structure, apart from a Rugby man as our new CEO, No other football changes have been announced, players across the spectrum of the club from youth to 1st team are departing including recently our club captain.

There is much to debate about Celtic, we are at a huge crossroads, not since Fergus saved the club have we faced challenging conditions such as those we face now, decisions being made now in Dublin without consultation and reference to the Celtic fanbase who are being IMO treated with contempt by our PLC

I believe the article today was in effect a giant squirrel with an element contained within the article of a political dog whistle this was to have the blog filled up with a political pile-on against the Scottish Govt, to distract from the vacuum of anything positive emanating from Celtic park, the fact that the usual CQN suspects acted on the dog whistle is evidence enough for me it existed.

I am not a member of any political party, in fact, I have little faith in the party system, did Nicola Sturgeon as a leader of a major populist party politick with covid and football, of course, she did, that’s not in question in the run-up to an election making vote securing populist statements will be constantly made, no populist party is immune, I personally don’t believe our season was adversely affected by these statements, what did affect our season was how the SFA dealt with covid rule-breaking throughout the season, no surprise the club in Govan benefitted above all other clubs from decisions made by the SFA, equally no surprise our PLC and CEO meekly accepted those decisions made by the SFA, incredibly in January the unbelievably dumb decision to go ahead with the trip to Dubai beggared belief, as the departure date for Dubai neared there were many many stories of the ever-changing Covid landscape surrounding International travel with countries changing entry and depature rules at a moments notice trapping travellers all over the world, once again we were asleep at the wheel only this time the car was veering off a cliff
