SFA McGlennan resigns, Celtic season tickets Sold Out

171

SFA Compliance Officer, Tony McGlennan, has tendered his resignation, just weeks after issuing a Notice of Complaint over (Oldco) Rangers over their application for a Uefa licence for season 2011-12.  The issue relates to Rangers failure to pay tax relating to the Discounted Options Scheme, active during Sir David Murray’s  reign.  Murray ditched this scheme in 2002 when he plunged the club headfirst in the EBT mess which ultimately led to liquidation.

Craig Whyte’s trial last year at Glasgow High Court heard evidence which contradicted the club’s submission to the SFA in 2011.  McGlennan investigated and recommended the SFA act.  An independent panel will now have the task of deciding what action to take.  Newco Rangers are on the hook for Oldco’s football punishments, as determined by the Five Way Agreement between the SFA, Scottish Premier League, Scottish Football League, Rangers and Sevco (now Newco Rangers).

The investigation into Rangers 2011 submission took eight months and was not published until the new SFA chief exec, Ian Maxwell, was in-situ.  The SFA still work in the shadow of Ally McCoist’s “Who are these people?” veil, so it may be wise for McGlennan to move on, before a suitable punishment for misrepresentation on an application to gain access to a competition worth tens of millions is declared.  Celtic were denied a place in the 2011 Champions League qualification competition due to Rangers’ submission, an issue which led to the Res 12 campaign.

It is quite unbelievable that the season ticket Sold Out notices went up at the Celtic ticket office today.  53,000 season tickets to see 8-in-a-row, with a waiting list for those wanting to see our 9-in-a-row record matched.  While Champions League money is the salt on our chips, the club’s long-term financial stability is underpinned by season ticket sales.  The paying public is the most important revenue stream at Celtic.  These figures also underpin merchandising and commercial deals.

Well done to all season ticket holders!

  1. I don’t think McGlennan is leaving now. He has his notice to work and also has a role in appointing his successor. This was in the original announcement.

I am encouraged that Auldheid has suggested that this is not a Sevco good news story.

I was not impressed with McGlennan in his previous dealings where Sevco seemed to be able to appeal any ban and be successful.

Peter Lawwell must have built an alliance of other clubs with sufficient votes to carry the appointment of Maxwell and this may be part of the purge of the “Bowling club” faction and the replacement by “modernists”. I await the resignation of Sandy Bryson, he of the Cadette case and the LNS twisted registration evidence. When he’s gone, I might have more faith.

  2. The Watergate scandal was finally resolved by Nixons resignation 2years 2 months after the original Break in.

The are now 20 odd years from Rangers first known cheating of the Taxman and the various cover ups. 6 or 7 years since the UEFA license scandal.

Hillsborough took 29 years for the truth to get out.

We probably will be at Rang3rs by then!

  3. BIGBHOY

Hillsborough only got exposed cos there was journos who were hell bent on the truth coming out, there is not a single journo digging into the huns, not a single one, Alex Thompson did a wee bit a few years back and nothing, they will never get their cumupance, never.

Good point. the Scottish Media have tried to bury and deflect the whole time. Woodward and Bernstein types are not noticeable in the media.

However, the Internet Bampots will never let the matter lie and there is hope yet.

    Persistance beats Res12tance

  6. Another signing for Sevco, for actual money. Hmmm… are they simply blowing the season ticket money as it comes in and hoping they will get another soft loan in Oct/Nov?

If not, I can’t see where they are getting funds from, unless someone is using Ibrox as a laundrette.

  9. That boy the Huns have signed, look like the Croats have pulled the old Rafael Scheidt trick. Give them one cap for National team and some mug will come along and buy them thinking they are good when in fact it’s a scam to bring money into their game.

  10. Gooood Evening CQN – ???????

Now I have no idea what the resignation of Tony McGlennan means

Something not right , can’t work out what ?

    What I also find strange

Vincent Lunny, still shows on the SFA licensing committee/ board

Thought he left the SFA in 2014 ??

No sign of Dickson name on any SFA committees either ??

What troubles me about trolls is that in there are often sharp minds which could contribute to the blog hugely. I come on the blog out of, tbh, a little bit of loneliness (I know no Irish or Scottish peeps), a sense of identity but overwhelmingly to figure out wtf is going on in the warpworld of scottish fitba and it’s annoying that trolls shut their own voices up going for the obvious.

McGlennan gets out of Dodge, hard on the heels of Regan, while Dave King morphs into a screaming testosterone Pantomime queen, and a non-executive SFA director becomes collateral damage for a mild jibe made 12 years ago.

Implies to me that there is a tsunami coming down the Govan pike very soon.

    ………………………………………

    Sounds good to me…

With 2 Sevco directors just walked the plank & 2 more allegedly twitching to get out….

I’d like to think you are right.

    Don’t shoot the messenger, ok?

There’s a thread on hunmedia called ‘The Old Lady -FF’.

Have a quick look, it should put to bed the Castle Grayskull/Snake Mountain discussion. They’ve finally twigged.

    Snake Mountain from now on!

  15. Bada bing ,to be honest I’ve never heard of him,I used to like super scoreboard back in the James Gordon ,Paul Cooney ran the station, but over they yrs ,it has lost it identity, it needs to get shot of the German ownership, Baur, get back to its roots, local music presenters, good sports writers,no ex footballer’s, there absaloutly, dire, also any more info on Celtic Park,Lennox town,Barrowfield,,of redevelopment, many thanks, Oldbhoy,ie,James.

  16. Big Dedryk was playing for Belgium last night, he fresh aired an attempted pass with resulted in the square root of nothing happening. Big man was probably nervous as hell, simple mistake, these things happen. I see Celtic fans sharing this one error all over Twitter, wtf is that all about. Have these people no gratitude for what guys like him have achieved with us.

  17. Hi Paul67,

53,000 Season tickets, that’s hugely impressive. As you say these ghuys and ghirls are the supporters who give the Club the platform to build. Awesome…

    Interesting piece on Tony McGlennan.

We can but speculate as to why he’s resigned but it is not speculation to suggest he’s leaving a dysfunctional organisation.

We can read little into the timing of the announcement, why he’s leaving is more important.

Once he’d taken the decision then it’s important he announces his departure before the JPDT reaches a decision on the application and granting Rangers an UEFA Licence in 2011/12.

No matter what the outcome, his resignation after the decision was announced would be viewed as a negative comment on that outcome.

    We have seen…

    Stewart Regan

    Andrew McKinley

    Gary Hughes

And now Tony McGlennan resign in short order.

Of course what we do know is that from 2011 the SFA have been working with Rangers oldco and newco to overcome their considerable difficulties.

    What we know…

That officials conspired with Rangers, that officials stayed in position and influenced outcomes despite being conflicted, that officials circumvented due process and arbitrary prescibed precedents

The rules and regulations were manipulated, perverted or totally disregarded

We know that inquires, investigations and hearings were; manipulated, impeded and obstructed

Calls for accountability and transparency of the process and decisions were constrained, one of the reasons cited were ongoing criminal and civil court cases. However once these were complete and the outcomes made it crystal clear that the Scottish football’s Governing bodies had got things badly wrong, calls for Judical Reviews and wide ranging investigations were rejected.

It was Stewart Regan’s view that the result of the BTC had signalled closure for many in the game and that (ALL the salient) issues had already been addressed.

    REALLY!?!

One salient issue; a clearer separation of powers between the executive and judicial activities.

Quite frankly the SFA Executive are in chaos, despite recent comings and goings we still have Messers McRea and Petrie in senior positions from the adulterated years of wrongdoing.

I’m sure there would be many a penny for Tony McGlennan’s thoughts tonight… would he agree there is a clearer separation of powers between the executive and judicial activities?

    Hail Hail
