The Scottish Football League today placed an upper limit on which division Sevco can play in next season – their Third. We must now wait on the company providing sufficient information to complete their application to the SFL and for membership of the Scottish FA. Although many Rangers fans want Sevco to join the Third Division, chief exec Charles Green was clearly hoping to start life higher up the food chain.
The overwhelming nature of this verdict indicates the solidarity between clubs and fans, throughout the divisions, on how our sport is governed. This is a good thing but it leaves one burning question on the table:
Is the Scottish Premier League insolvent?
Last week SPL chief exec Neil Doncaster told SFL clubs that the Premier League would be unable to meet its contractual obligations if they did not vote Sevco into the First Division. Unless this was a shameless lie designed to bully clubs into giving Doncaster what he wanted, the Scottish Premier League Ltd should seek to appoint an administrator without delay.
You can ignore comments about league reconstruction at some unspecified point in the future, Doncaster told us last year that “those who want 16 teams in the top flight are deluding themselves.”
The Scottish Football League does not need the SPL, or its money, to continue to thrive as a community-based sporting entity. They will flourish. What happens to the SPL remains to be seen.
As we have observed once or twice before, M. Platini, where are you? We need the football world to assist with the survival of the game in one of its historic heartlands.

No matter what Martin O’Neill said (mind games) Rangers and their establishment never were, and never will be, the bench mark that we measure Celtic against.
Moisty had better trade that fancy motor in for a 2nd hand transit.
Does anybody know if AT will be on CH4 the night ?
Thanks in advance.

Hail hail happy days !
Smith is an utter buffoon. Though he amply represents what having a connection to Rangers got you in the pre Sevco era of Scottish football.
How this intellectual pygmy is viewed as some sort of voice of reason I’ll never comprehend. Just laugh along and enjoy the hilarity as he comes up with his latest cracker!

What would you label a good looking, intelligent, articulate, sensitive, honest, well dressed and educated hun?
the best bit in all of this was that ra gers with the help from minty and all the large investors plus all the champions league money still failed as a company
then the football club still could not outshine the achievments of big jock and the lisbon lions

Smith was unbelievable on clyde incredible that he was at the top of the sfa
Rangers started as a football club
The club became Rangers football club Ltd then Rangers football club Ltd became Rangers football club plc then the rangers football club plc were liquidated and their assets sold
the evidence is on their gates Rangers football club Ltd
there never has been a holding company with the club inside it
To be honest a bit jealous of the Huns and their away days.

Rangers don’t do walking away. Because the away games are now hundreds of miles away.
Topcorner – agreed. For the guys that are competing clean, the the TdF is probably, for me, the greatest endeavour in all of sport. The power it also has to entrance a nation for three weeks is amazing.
Are any CQNers in Glasgow or out and about either tonight or next week and interested in meeting up?
Blantyre Tim I’m looking at you here….

Aberdeen Chairman Stewart Milne has given his reaction to today’s decision by the Scottish Football League to accept Rangers NewCo’s request to join the SFL as an associate member and subsequently admit them into the third division.
“Following the SPL meeting last week and the vote to refuse Rangers NewCo admission to the SPL we felt that that the SFL clubs should be left alone to decide whether to grant Rangers NewCo associated membership of the SFL and, if this was approved, which division they should be in. We acknowledge that today they have made that clear decision. It is now time to move on.
“We will work together with the remaining SPL clubs on the season ahead and ensuring everything possible is done to secure the continuing support of our broadcasting and sponsor partners with Rangers NewCo in the SFL.
“Once the season is underway this will offer the opportunity to carry out a comprehensive review of the league structure going forward that will meet the aspirations of the Scottish football supporters, improve the quality of senior football in Scotland, bring about long term financial stability for senior clubs and place football at the heart of our communities.
“Finally I would like to address Aberdeen supporters directly. The challenges facing every club in Scotland going forward are severe, not least to our own club. I urge every single Dons supporter to get behind the Club, and the time to do that is now, as we face these challenges that have come about as a result of this situation which was not of our making.”
