SFL delivers as SPL Ltd facing insolvency

1374

The Scottish Football League today placed an upper limit on which division Sevco can play in next season – their Third.  We must now wait on the company providing sufficient information to complete their application to the SFL and for membership of the Scottish FA.  Although many Rangers fans want Sevco to join the Third Division, chief exec Charles Green was clearly hoping to start life higher up the food chain.

The overwhelming nature of this verdict indicates the solidarity between clubs and fans, throughout the divisions, on how our sport is governed.  This is a good thing but it leaves one burning question on the table:

Is the Scottish Premier League insolvent?

Last week SPL chief exec Neil Doncaster told SFL clubs that the Premier League would be unable to meet its contractual obligations if they did not vote Sevco into the First Division.  Unless this was a shameless lie designed to bully clubs into giving Doncaster what he wanted, the Scottish Premier League Ltd should seek to appoint an administrator without delay.

You can ignore comments about league reconstruction at some unspecified point in the future, Doncaster told us last year that “those who want 16 teams in the top flight are deluding themselves.”

The Scottish Football League does not need the SPL, or its money, to continue to thrive as a community-based sporting entity.  They will flourish.  What happens to the SPL remains to be seen.

As we have observed once or twice before, M. Platini, where are you?  We need the football world to assist with the survival of the game in one of its historic heartlands.

I’m pretty sure he’d love to walk away. He’s got more faces than the town clock and tailors his responses to suit. I’m sure Green would be happy seeing him walk – then he’d have no compo to pay. They clearly don’t trust each other. There’s still a lot of fun in this yet…!

Monday 5th March 2012:- SPL instruct Harper McLeod to investigate the use of illegal non-disclosed dual contracts at Rangers FC.

May 2012:- BBC documentary publishes details of payments made and side letters issued by Rangers FC under EBTs. In the immediate aftermath of this documentary being broadcast the SPL claim not to have received documents from Rangers FC that were requested under the terms of their investigation.

19th June 2012:- SPL announce that Rangers FC have a prima-facie case to answer in relation to alleged use of illegal dual contracts and that charges will be brought once the club`s future is clarified. To date no charges have been brought. .

    http://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/spl/rangers-liquidation-spl-complete-investigation-into-double-contracts-1-2361756

23rd June 2012:- Stewart Regan circulates an email to certain members of the SPL board and Harper McLeod solicitor Rod McKenzie confirming the adoption of a secret plan to persuade SFL clubs to accept Newco Rangers into Division 1 against all precedent and normal rules.

Is it right that a firm of solicitors appointed to investigate serious breaches of SPL and SFA rules by a member club are also actively involved in concert with the SFA and SPL Board in drafting and delivering measures designed to enable this club`s zombie to circumvent normal league entry procedures, and to do so before the disciplinary proceedings in relation to dual contracts has been completed?

Would the SPL have pursued this investigation – which appeared to have stalled for 10 weeks from its original launch – had the BBC not published the damning evidence that it did in the 2nd Mark Daly documentary?

Why have no charges been brought against Sevco as yet given the clear acknowledgement announced almost a month ago that a prima facie case exists?

  13. Folks,

Apologies if already covered but has the nuclear news from baracbhoy been announced yet? Might have missed it, if so, apologies.

I wouldn’t call him anything, that is their style to single people out and make him feel excluded. I know you are probably all good m8s and it is just a giggle but I would not take part in anything like that. He will be hurting badly anyway and he is obviously a very decent guy if he plays with so many Tims.
