Shaping midfield, Tomoki’s run of starts

228

Shaping the midfield for the game before the game is the challenge for Brendan Rodgers on Sunday.  Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate are both likely to be available to him for the trip to the Plastic Pasta Stadium and both would benefit from gametime, although putting them in together would be too much of a risk.

Callum is uber-fit and I have no concerns about him coming in from the cold to a high-pressure environment.  Reo is the man I would concentrate on.  Start him alongside Matt O’Riley with Tomoki Iwata in the holding role.

This would be Tomoki’s sixth successive start.  For a player who (in the main) deputises for the captain, that is more than he would have expected at the start of the season.  It is also enough for you and me to make a proper assessment of the player.

  1. Hatate has been slow to warm back up after injury, historically; that’s a concern for me.

Tomoki is looking like the player we hoped he would be.

Question,if today we are successful, does this mean Officials are as claimed incompetent and as such should not be officiating on Sunday.?

I have been looking for for information that debunks the widely-quoted £60M bonanza awaiting next year’s CL entrants.

Thanks for your clarification C40Me and thanks, too to AT for the link.

  5. Tomokku, in his brief run of games, has shown nothing to me that would suggest he will take us on to better things.

Will be intrigued to see the outcome of the manager’s meeting at Hampden today.

The appointment of Robertson to ref Sunday’s game has more than a whiff of ‘know your place, Timmy’ about it.

I’m not hopeful of happy outcome.

  7. garygillespieshamstring on

I’m afraid there’s more chance of starting to shit diamonds than there is of Brendan getting a favourable outcome.

  8. Will be a 1 game ban, suspended for 12 months, but we need to make this about the bigger issue, and tell them we don’t want Beaton doing any of our games,in any capacity

I think it will be along those lines as well.

I feel the Authorities know they have a very weak case and want the issue to go away quietly.

Talking of the shadow industry surrounding football what you wont read anywhere in the mainstream media is a detailed breakdown of the new champions league revenue distribution for season 2024/25

“People but don’t understand it, or don’t want to understand it.” Correcting truisms like “60m prize money” and “record £120m revenue swings” doesnt help anyone except for anyone out there who doesnt want to get swept up in the hysteria that surrounds Scottish football.

Fortunately for those who want to give themselves a proper understanding we’re lucky to have Swiss Ramble and CQN who give us a completely objective and then a pro Celtic take on things. PAul67 will no doubt give us an article about he new 2024/25 distributions that UEFA have published but in the meantime Swiss Ramble posted an article.

Here’s a very quick outline of what Celtic might expect to earn from UEFA should we be Scotland’s sole representative. The new system is a bit more convoluted than the last but the basic breakdown is:

    In Euros

    Participation – €18.62 (vs 15.64 2023/24)

    Win – 2.1 (2.8)

    Draw – .7 (.93)

League place – .275 per place

The other calculation is a ranking based on something called a Value pillar with two parts:

European part based on a combination of the value of the national tv deal to UEFA and the 5 year co-efficient

Non-European part based on the ten year coefficient.

We cant know what the Scottish part of the UK deal will be worth but previously UEFA have calculated it at 10% of the total. Added to our poor 5 and ten year European co-efficients it unlikely we’d rank much higher than 30th out of the 36 clubs.

A rough calculation using our recent performances:

2 wins, 2 draws and placed 28th out of the 36 teams with a ranking of 30th in the Value Pillars has income of €35.87m, €6m more than this season’s €29.85

So a reasonable performance has us €6m up on this season from Uefa with one more home game with the receipts that brings.

No chance of dropping into Europa.

Not exactly the knife-edge we were led to believe it would be. Or the era-defining title with its champions league bonanza we’ve heard so much about.

As expected the big boys get a far bigger share of the increase in cash than teams from the lower leagues.

A very quick estimate using Swiss Ramble’s figures:

4 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses, tenth place out of 36 and a run to the last 16 of the Europa would net us €16m from UEFA.

€20m difference is not a disaster

I would strongly recommend anyone who wants to give themselves a better understanding of it all and avoid unwanted anxiety to subscribe to Swiss Ramble and read Paul’s article when it comes.

Yip I agree with that, as I said on here or SC, how safe would he be in the stand. The suits are one thing but a Irish manager another, they couldn’t guarantee Lennys safety previously!

I agree about Tomoki, too much being made of the boy.Like Bernardo, first season in SPFL,still getting to grips with all that entails. Both can go on and improve more in second season. Both have done very well.

  18. Prestonpans bhoys on

Found it but it’s a bit ambiguous as it doesn’t state the original position was two game ban. Anyway here it is:

“Gary Caldwell has been handed an immediate one-match suspension following a Scottish FA Judicial panel hearing at Hampden today.

The manager was found to be in breach of Disciplinary Rules 72 and 203 and will be banned from the dugout for Saturday’s trip to Alloa Athletic.

Gary has also been given an additional one-match ban, suspended until the end of the 2018/2019 season
