Six days out and a mountain to climb

1664

Over the last few days we have worked with Mary’s Meals to identify a second school without basic facilities in one of the most deprived areas of the world.  We have confirmed St Josephs’ Primary School in Kasungu, Malawi (the 17th poorest country in the world), which has a roll of 746 pupils and no facilities to provide food, meaning many children have to work to feed themselves instead of being educated.

The necessary permissions have been confirmed, and Mary’s Meals can send resources there as soon as money is available.  If we are successful, St Joseph’s will get a brick-built kitchen which will double as a classroom with stoves, pots, utensils, spoons and mugs.  As a result, kids will attend school to get what on many occasions will be their only meal of the day.  They will also get an education and better chances in later life.

The cost of the kitchen is £7000.  We are only six days out from CQteN so we shouldn’t expect miracles but we’ll be here until the job is done.

Construction is underway at our first school at the Kholoni Primary School in Mchinji, Malawi, which has a school roll of 1221 children.

We have a donations page for CQN Mary’s Meals’ projects, if you would like to help out, you can do so here.

Seville, The Celtic Movement, launches this month.

“There were 10 in our party and collecting the tickets took priority. Once we had them we could afford time to eat, but what? Several restaurants were sold out but we eventually found a café with frozen chips and a meat-based slab of something or other. No choices. No beer, wine or cola either, it was diluting orange juice or water. An entire city was pretty much emptied of food and drink.”

PMTYH, probably not. I’m glad you appreciated my effort though.

The GB can GTF if the club sign up these chics and they get a few reb toons under their belts. Not that there’s much room under there.

In 1976, a 15 year old BRTH was let loose in Sam Goody’s record Shop in Manhattan.

I was there to buy a specific record ( as they called them in those days ) but as would become a habit wherever I went, I would always want to by something else by a local artist too.

So it came to pass that I bought a live album by a guy from Brooklyn New York playing with his band.

Over the years he has become an ever increasing influence and when we get to the wee small hours he often comes to mind.

He was booted out of his original band by his fellow artists ( his brothers ) but a few years later he found himself and a few guys he barely new performing as the opening act for his brothers band.

A huge war ensued between two rival music promoters which resulted in him signing the richest contract ever offered to a new act at the time.

He would never enjoy huge chart success, but built up a fantastic repertoire for live performances and his story songs became legendary.

However, it was his social campaigning that really hit the headlines.

He started the campaign to end world hunger in the 70’s and he was building Food Banks in New York when no one had ever heard of food banks.

His charitable gigs were so many that eventually his band ( which by this time included his brothers once again ) had to quit because as Bruce Springsteen would say at his tribute concert after his death — he had started to play ” One night for me– and one night for the other guys” — basically playing to raise money for others– even going round the audience with a hat as they left a concert.

He was the creator of the Presidential commission on World Hunger and he was posthumously awarded the highest civic honour in the USA — the congressional gold medal.

If ever someone put the story of the ordinary guy into a song it was this guy — and so if you have never heard of, or have heard of but don’t know enough about the late great Harry Chapin then seriously look him up…….. as he was one of the greatest human beings who walked the face of this earth ………. and I sort of bumped into him in Sam Goody’s Record Store.

So this is Harry singing about a little old man who walks into a bar room and……… well I will let Harry tell the story……..

Good luck to Albion Rovers later today. Their chances are slim given they’re playing versus Mr Ogilvies favourite team and the goodwins at the top need the huns to progress to the next round to scoop up some cash to pay their bills.

Get in about this sham of a club and help to speed their fall into the abyss. Kick them when they’re down and stand on their windpipe. Give us another day to laugh at the failure of their fat sleekit spam heided manager.

    Mon the rovers.
