Some sympathy for Stewart Robertson

728

I know lockdown is causing much anxiety, but can you imagine being in Newco chief exec Stewart Robertson’s shoes these days?  He must have known the gig was up when he decided not to release his ‘evidence’ before clubs were able to send proxy vote to block his EGM resolution.

I’m sure he hoped the SPFL would announce they have enough votes in the bag, allowing him to flounce off, instead of substantiating his claim, but those he wanted sacked at the League will want to see this play out as much as the rest of us.

He even has Graeme Spiers calling him out as the weakest man he’s met in football.  For a man in his position, “weak” is the most damning word, it will resonate with those whose support he relies on.  And let’s not forget, he has tens of millions to find to continue trading though next season, by comparison, this SPFL mess is like a July Walk on the Queen’s highway.

From what I hear, Stewart is a decent bloke, one made for less complex times.  His strings are almost certainly being pulled by some sinister Geppetto character.  If he fails to produce his ‘evidence’, this afternoon’s Premiership club meeting will be an excruciating, if not humiliating, affair.  It will all be over soon, Stewart; you hang in there.

I’m sure we would all like to congratulate PSG on winning the ninth title in their history and seventh in eight years yesterday, apart from that Neymar character, of course.  The story for Scottish football in how the French league finished is the third place finish of Rennes – who could only manage a fourth place finish in the Europa League group Celtic topped.

While we are not in PSG’s class, we more than held our own against a French and Italian sides in the Europa League this season.  Like Celtic, Rennes will enter the Champions League qualification round next season.

  1. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Thank you CQN for multiple laugh out loud moments with film titles.

Joint winners for me are ….

    Melbourne Mick’s “Billy Liar” AND

    Owen’s “Fiddler on the books”

    Brilliant stuff guys.

    Hail hail

    Keep The Faith

  2. An SPL team have just removed their players who are out of contract end of May out of 1st team Whatsapp group. Loan players back in the group.

That tells me there will be no games any time soon.

  3. If Tommy Wright gets the Norn Ireand job, he will have deserved it. A football man who has constantly re-built St. Johnstone year after year on a middling to low budget and acheived a lot of top 6’s against the odds. Also, seems to treat Neil Lennon with more respect than many.

I don’t admire his football style with his Tractor Boys but I was glad that Ibrox did not come calling for him as he’s a far better coach than McCoist or Murty, and probably, Stevie Gee too.

That’s seemingly has, already, been ruled out.

Just reading some of those excellent film titles and apologies if already posted but might I suggest INGLORIOUS BASTARDS as appropriate

Interesting to speculate on what persuaded Tom English to back the complaint in the absence of the evidence.

It is unlikely that Ibrox officials have released any of their hand in advance to the journos, as they could not be trusted to not let it slip, so English must be taking it on faith.

My scepticiism is over the Ibrox refusal to reveal their info now rather than just before the EGM. If the evidence was powerful enough, it could be released now and would be compelling. They are desperate for money via the loan/advance so why wait any time at all?

The delay suggest 3 things to me:-

    1) They are still writing and making up the evidence and the rhetoric isn’t polished enough to be put out there into the public gaze.

    or

    2) It is not compelling, merely mildly damning. Maybe it shows a botch job rather than a corruption issue. Maybe it shows someone lied or misrepresented but the lie was a small matter (e.g. The loans/advances could be made legally but they sayed they couldn’t when they did not really want to because they feared they may not be repais). If Sevco can achieve a resignation or a sacking, they can create enough confusion and sympathy for their treatment that they can say, all this leaves a bad smell over Celtic’s “award” of a league title.

or 3) They are in the Last Days of the Bunker Mode and are furiously denying reality. Which would put Tom English in the role of a reporter from the Völkischer Beobachter in April 1945.

On the whole, I think it is option 2

Hello again all you young rebels.

    BACK TO BASICS

Thank you so much for my nomination of the best hun film ” BILLY LIAR ”

alongside ” Fiddler on the books ” it’s a great honour for me but i couldn’t

have done it without the help of the gullibillies, a much under appreciated

group of feckwits who’s stupidity knows no bounds, i owe them so much

for keeping my sense of humour active during this period of depression.

But i’d like to applaud OWENS… ” Fiddler on the books ” ( or roof ) which

was a screenplay by…… wait for it…. Joseph Stein.

    Scary or what.

    SFTB

I think if they had anything then some of it would

have been drip fed to the media.

They are banking on the EGM not to go ahead in my view,

that way they can get away with not producing anything.

  11. Bankiebhoy

I would be disappointed if he went there and I think Sevco fans would see it as a step down. They may see the 6 counties as their brethren but they are their wee brethren and are more in thrall to big English names, even if they are English names that have never done anything in management, like Stevie Gee.

  12. bankiebhoy1 on

SFTB…………Its option 2 for me and has been since the start………………

………thull come up with something and thur meeja freens will sensationally splash it in a way that dramatises nuthin’ much…………

I’ve always felt that they just want to cloak our triumphs in as much keech as possible while obscuring their own failures……

And TBB – re the English comments………….he may be after a bone buried in the garden…( we’ll soon see)….. but why is he ignoring the juicy big hunned-up, blood red steak lyi8ng aboooot in the kitchen?

  13. bankiebhoy1 on

SFTB – fair point, but I think Wrighty might be their cash-strapped Mcleish?

    Naw?

    ;)

    ‘Cash Strapped McLeish’?

Is that a Scots Indy band that I’ve never heard of?

  15. Tom English:

Seemingly if the BBC run with a positive story on all this then they will be allowed full access to all things Sevco again por cierto

I find that all McKenna’s articles are basically the same. The script seldom deviates…

‘See me. I am a noble creature. Noble beyond your wildest dreams. Tories are bad. (We knew that.) Labour is just as bad. You’d never work that out for yourself. You need someone of my perspicuity to point that out. And as a demonstration of my courage, read my gratuitous and unfounded attack on Celtic. Amn’t I a big heavy card? And vote SNP.’

  27. Listened to Doncaster on BBC, he was asked the same questions about 5 times each at least, pretty painful to listen at times. Budge and English skewered. Richard Gordon all at sea.
