Some sympathy for Stewart Robertson

728

I know lockdown is causing much anxiety, but can you imagine being in Newco chief exec Stewart Robertson’s shoes these days?  He must have known the gig was up when he decided not to release his ‘evidence’ before clubs were able to send proxy vote to block his EGM resolution.

I’m sure he hoped the SPFL would announce they have enough votes in the bag, allowing him to flounce off, instead of substantiating his claim, but those he wanted sacked at the League will want to see this play out as much as the rest of us.

He even has Graeme Spiers calling him out as the weakest man he’s met in football.  For a man in his position, “weak” is the most damning word, it will resonate with those whose support he relies on.  And let’s not forget, he has tens of millions to find to continue trading though next season, by comparison, this SPFL mess is like a July Walk on the Queen’s highway.

From what I hear, Stewart is a decent bloke, one made for less complex times.  His strings are almost certainly being pulled by some sinister Geppetto character.  If he fails to produce his ‘evidence’, this afternoon’s Premiership club meeting will be an excruciating, if not humiliating, affair.  It will all be over soon, Stewart; you hang in there.

I’m sure we would all like to congratulate PSG on winning the ninth title in their history and seventh in eight years yesterday, apart from that Neymar character, of course.  The story for Scottish football in how the French league finished is the third place finish of Rennes – who could only manage a fourth place finish in the Europa League group Celtic topped.

While we are not in PSG’s class, we more than held our own against a French and Italian sides in the Europa League this season.  Like Celtic, Rennes will enter the Champions League qualification round next season.

Terms and Conditions on a season ticket work both ways. If someone doesn’t pay they don’t get in, you cant go around to the ticket office and say I’m having a hard time, can you just let me in. The club must honour the conditions on the season ticket and offer refunds if games are cancelled. The board have a duty to have sufficient insurance in place to cover these events, however unusual. If folk choose not to take a refund that is up to them. Please remember Celtic are a limited company, the board of directors are employed by Celtic plc and every season ticket holders relationship with them is transactional. Inevitably as has already been the case, you will get folk wanting to play ‘I’m a better Celtic supporter than you’ and that is up to them, but lets be clear, such attitudes are irrelevant.

Not an S/T holder myself but your suggestion seems eminently sensible.

50,000 X £100 well that is a fair bit of money to the club in the short term.

I totally agree. We still need to be way ahead by the time we come out of this. I don’t want any refund nor a voucher. I know everyone isn’t in the same boat, but I’m happy to pay for my new season ticket, even though it looks like we’ll be lucky to see a game live until next year. The club need to get inventive to maintain their financial advantage during this unprecedented time. A big problem is that the gate/season book revenue means so much to us versus TV revenue, in comparison to the EPL. They’ll be happy if they are at least able to get their behind closed doors games going, as that should maintain their main income of tv revenue. That said, I very much doubt they’ll get games played any time soon.

As far as fans supporting their club financially, we have a far better history of doing that than the huns.

I think it was Jamesgang who suggested Celtic shares rather than refunds or vouchers.

Imo this is the way to go.

It should be “easy” to bypass the requirement for a share trading account

I don’t think its realistic. A new share issue would dilute the value of existing shares. I doubt Nick Train et al will be up for it. What happens if all of the new shareholder want to attend the AGM next year?

  5. For past 5 weeks in Ireland over 70s were confined to their house & garden and everyone else unless they were going to work or had a legitimate reason for travelling were confined to within a 2km limit from their home,

Government making new announcement at 6.30, strongly rumoured cocooning of over 70s to be lifted & 2km extended to 5km from Tuesday.

    I’m 8km from Golf Course.

    Celtic Mac,

I’m sure I read on her that we had already sold circa 28,000 tickets for the new season

    ( Bada Bing perhaps )

I renewed mine a day before the huns game was cancelled and at the time I reckoned about 20,000 had done likewise.

Since then finances have changed for manyand will change for so many more. Family must come first.

    Cheers and HH.

PS ; Taking BJ at his word, austerity is not in the equation . Thank God. Apologies for this wee bit of non Celtic.

Might make social distancing a bit dificult.

  8. An Share Issue plan would have to be approved by existing Shareholders. Normally these things are done at AGM’s if they had to organise a special EGM to approve it , it would be cheaper to just offer a cash refund,

  9. The EPL is still living in its’ very own Alice In Wonderland. Ninety two matches still to play. Got to get them played, or hope the broadcasters dont notice. Some with masks on, some without, some at home some on a neutral venue somewhere in Middle England. This is what is needed in these times of uncertainty.

  10. Greenpinata on

    David 66,

Celtic may have a legal obligation for some sort of ” refund “.

Those who could afford it would maybe like to see the money stay in the club..

The more shareholders the better, No. The venue could change to suit, but in any company , shareholders attending AGM’s is usually very low.

    Cheers and HH.

PS : According to social media Celtic shares have risen 19% over the last 3 weeks.

I’m guessing that s/t holders do not need to pay the full amount up front, but what would happen if you miss a payment? A deposit scheme would allow both the club and those supporters to then wait and see if and when we host matches at Celtic Park.

  22. For nearly five years, Bank Hapoalim employees used the U.S. financial system to launder tens of millions of dollars in bribe payments to corrupt soccer officials in multiple countries,” Benczkowski said.

Bank employees agreed to launder bribes and kickbacks paid to officials with Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and other soccer federations in exchange for broadcasting rights for sports marketing executives, federal authorities charged.

the huns have offered season ticket holders a 25 pound voucher to spend

in the club shop if the games cant be finished this season

they should be refunding approximately 130 per season ticket so say

45000 hun season ticket holders (idiots) equates to nearly 6 million quid

are the huns fans so thick they cant see whats happening here

stupid question we know they are plus the most gullible fans in the world
