Spartak and the long road home

1014

Having disposed of Raith Rovers last night, Celtic have two huge away games, against top of the table Motherwell before a trip to Moscow for a Champions League match against Spartak in six days.

Tonight Spartak play just a few miles from the Ukraine border and have a journey of close to 1000 miles on Saturday.  It is little wonder they, like Celtic, are looking for ways to improve their injury record.

Celtic will travel to Moscow only a few hours after Spartak leave the city of Perm to journey home.  On Tuesday we will be the fresher team.  Could this be the game we break our duck away from home in the Champions League?  If we get it right on the park it will be.

I didn’t read the (incredible) statement by Charles Green until late last night, when I caught it via the excellent analysis by Paul McConville on his Random Thoughts blog.  Mr Green, Paul concludes, is “Either… stupid, which he is not, or he has decided to continue to appeal to his core support”.

There is a third alternative.  Last season we watched Craig Whyte, then Duff and Phelps, embark on a series of unfathomable actions.  Neither party was stupid, nor were their actions necessarily guided by anything as a coordinated appeal; they were simply being buffeted along by circumstances.  No one was in control, had the experience necessary or was party to a deliverable Grand Plan, resulting in a series of random utterances.

  1. No way do I want us drawn against the zombie’s they dont deserve the hype or the legitimacy they would recieve from such an encounter, the msm would go into overdrive on there behalf even more than they have, they are an an irrelavance to us now lets keep it that way we dont need them or there sham crowds or there shamefull management team

Just my opinion for what it’s worth , I hope we never have to play that mob or their mutant offspring ever again . If we draw them in any cup competition I will be boycotting that game . Whether its home or away , not going to legitimise cheats by giving them my hard earned cash .

We would be used by the MSM to legitimise them as a continuation of the old club and the O** F*** .

  4. Fir Park is more important than Moscow imo

Lets solidify our position on top of the SPL before we start thinking about the CL

Play a full strength team. Play Broonie on the right of midfield with Vic + Kayal in the centre, Joe Ledley on the left. Watt + Hooper upfront

Get in front by a couple of goals and then start taking off players who Lenny thinks are key

  5. Doc is Neil Lennon @ 9 52.

That could be the answer !.

12 years in Italy / Sicily have taught me that bureaucratic / managerial /human error is not uncommon.

I don’t think Miku & Lassad are fit and I don’t want to risk both Ledley & Kayal so plumped for Joe. Brown to get readsy for Moscow

  7. Can you imagine the propaganda Chuck will generate for his share issue if they get us in the draw.

I want nothing to do with them. A crap away game that will generate no money.

  8. Rangers raise their game as defiant Ibrox celebrates cup win

    By Alasdair Lamont

    BBC Scotland

Ally McCoist insisted in the immediate aftermath of his Rangers side’s 2-0 defeat of the Scottish Premier League leaders Motherwell he and his players had not set out to show the SPL what it’s missing.

Certainly the club’s supporters were keen for their team to prove a point, which they vocally rammed home as first Lee McCulloch and then Dean Shiels put the Third Division side into the last eight of the Scottish Communities League Cup.

So singing the famine song is being ‘defiant’

Just had a wee read at tsfm there, cant say I’m into his liberal attitude towards hunnery, they dont deserve a say,we all know they happily see everybody else as inferior and support domination by any means necessary, the good ones among them keep quiet and have the sense to chuck interest in the Scottish pro game, the rest are hump backed orcs that will say and do anything out of the shame of being caught out.

  10. The problem is can we trust another SPL team to put them out?

I do not want them anywhere near a final but they have enough SPL standard players to get further in the competition (ESPECIALLY WITH THEIR CONSTANT HOME DRAWS).

They need the money and I suspect they will get us but I would love to get them at Celtic park and absolutely tear them to shreds.

I watched the first half and they were garbage and had they played a decent side (or one trying their hearts out like QOTS) they’d have lost.

Hearts or Aberdeen away offer the best chance of them losing if they don’t play Celtic.

No doubt we’ll get another trip to Inverness.

  11. If Celtic draw Deadco then it will be at Ibrox. Do you really think the powers-that-be want them totally humiliated? Even so, there would be no replay based on the “football” I witnessed last night. Celtic would gub them ref or no ref. Higdon, by the way, was punished by the redfevery time he went for a ball. I think he gave up, like the rest. Still an awful football team though.

  12. The draw will take place when wee fat sally demands to know an is given the names of those making the draw…absolutely..absolutely

I am not suggesting anything, you understand.

What do the bookies think about having to pay out on the muthers losses against the huns, time and time again?

Wasn’t a muthers player named, although not found guilty, of involvement in a betting scam a couple of seasons ago?

Anyway, if I was a bookie or a muthers fan I’d be asking questions.

I wonder if Idi Salmon had a wee bet on the huns.

I was interested in your post the other day about Tubby Hayes. He was the first jazz musician I “got”. Mexican Green was the first jazz album (they were albums in those days) I bought with Dear Johnny B a stand out.

As far as his comments about Roy Castle are concerned, well fair enough. However, you have to say Tubby was a lousy tap dancer!

    PS Draw date/time?

  21. A wee bit belated (just finished watching the game) and I agree that Big Efe had a good game but for me I was most pleased with Dylan McGeoch’s contribution. Eighteen months, two years and that boy bulks up a bit and we will have a player.

  22. Gary Liniker reminds me a bit of our Gary Hooper, he could score for fun too but our Gary can play football and he doesn’t greet if he breaks a finger nail.

  23. My team for saturday:

Big strong team to take it to the muthers big time. JF can come on later once we have battered there midfield.

Sevco in cup? NO NO NO. No regurgitating the ‘old firm’ nonsense and whipping the msm into slavering love beasts. I said last night if we do draw them at Celtic Park close the top tier, charge 15 bux, play development team and give them a couple of thousand seats in part of stadium with worst view. Thats what any other 3rd div team would get. Would I go to game, erm no thanks.

This is the team that lost to Ross County. John Park was appointed in January 2007. I have added comments to show whether he had any involvement in their recruitment.

Zaluska Signed a pre-contract in Dec 2008. could have been a JP recommendation, Still with the club

Hinkel Signed in January 2008. could have been a JP recommendation, Good pro who did well in his time

Naylor Signed in Aug 2006 so before JP’s time

Thompson Signed Aug 2009, could have been a JP recommendation

    O’Dea Youth team product

N’Guemo Signed in Aug 2009, could have been a JP recommendation

Brown Signed in Aug 2007. Most definately a JP recommendation. Now club captain

    McGeady Youth team product

Keane Not scouted by John Park as his rep was well known

Samaras Signed in Jan 2008, could have been a JP recommendation

Fortune Not scouted by John Park as Tony Mowbray had him at WBA

So of that team, 6 may have been scouted by John Park. 3 of those are still with the club and of others, Hinkel did well, Thompson was too young and inexperienced and N’Guemo didn’t really cut it despite looking good early on.

From your clues provided last night, I am hazarding a guess that someone with a high profile within Ayebrokes ,has been caught on film.

Caught on film saying or doing something that the Ayebrokes zombies won’t like.

My guess would be it is Mr Green.

Has he been caught genuflecting and in their eyes , he would be a bead rattling Pape?

    Now that would be funny.

Or it could be has be filmed yet again, admitting that they are dead, and as WE all know, are a new club?

Original club set up in 1888.

Incorportated into a company in 1897 and was called “The Celtic Football and Athletic Company Limted”

Fergus took over, wanted to float company on stock market and changed it to a PLC. Also decided to change the name of the company from “The Celtic Football and Athletic Company Limted” to “Celtic PLC”.

This is still the same company and has an unbroken history back to its incorporation.

A lot of Celtic’s history was when the company was called “The Celtic Football and Athletic Company Limted” and so Fergus bought a company off-the-shelf called Pacific Shelf and changed its name to “The Celtic Football and Athletic Company Limted” so that Celtic could keep this trademark and use the name in the future if needed.

Your zombie friend thinks he is onto something but he is sadly mistaken.
