SPFL bet on China

787

Interesting development reported this morning by the BBC that the SPFL have sold rights to a Chinese broadcaster for around £500k per year.  With rights for major European leagues commanding premium fees, it seems intuitive that there’s space for lower-cost content, but Scottish football must be starting from a position of practically zero market knowledge in China.  Unless Zheng Zhi is a whole lot more popular than I realised.

The other aspect about China to bear in mind is the size and habits of its gambling market.  If you are a gambler, you don’t watch football for the thrill of following your favourite team, you watch for the opportunity to beat the bookie, and in this respect, Scottish football is as valuable as any league.

Sport’s relationship with gambling has been a source of concern, especially in the Scottish lower leagues, but when you look up your fixture list and see the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership, there’s no point getting precious about the influence Chinese gamblers.

I see the Bumblebee’s back!  This NB know how to push our buttons with the retro look.

I know around 100 of you have/can/will run a 10k or half marathon, and a few dozen have told me you’re signing up to do the Great Scottish Run for your Foundation.  You know what it’s about, Health, Education, Learning, Poverty – or in short, it’s about what Celtic means to you and me.

Time to get moving on it.  See the Foundation page here for details.  It’s in October, so there’s a good chance the rain will stop by then.  Let me know when you’ve signed up, celticquicknews@gmail.com

You don’t need to break records, you don’t even need to run the whole course, just get the trainers on and get out there, you’ll be glad you did.

Celtic could always arrange for Ciftci’s teeth to be removed to prevent any future allegations of biting.

On second thoughts, why bother. The SFA have probably got rules prohibiting gumming with intent.

  2. bgx,

Naw expect more and worse, you are one I will have no problem calling out, yer a coward, worse liar than me and a Masonic scumbag, last night you outed yourself, you tried to bully a Christian into declaring people who do not accept the Christ as the only way to salvation will not be accepted into heaven, a biblical fundamental another truth you refused to acknowledge. Only a Masonic bawbag would use that Kind of logic to refute their wee proday Sunday school education

Don’t you realise that no party WILL/COULD get elected into power by concentrating solely on the poorest and/or benefit claimants.

    Why?

There are simply not nearly enough of them.

It can’t, and never has happneed, in the UK, or in Scotland.

In order to to obtain power and help the poor and lowest paid, you must, like Labour did in theirTHREE victories, appeal to the majority of people who do work, pay taxes and finance the country.

Labour’s biggest redistribution of wealth, Gordon Brown’s Tax Credits, which stands at £30 BILLION – is now being dismantled by the Tories.

If those who voted against Labour, in favour of the impotent SNP, who have NEVER delivered ANYTHING for the WORKING-CLASS, think that this budget was tough, wait till 2020 – the Tories will then, near as damn it, dissolve the Welfare State.

Those who voted for SNP hoping for a BENEFITS BONANZA, have got the exact opposite – ie slashing cuts.

  13. bgx,

Can only pity your sad existence, if Scottish mansonry is your ambition for governance and there is no alternative available. I can only offer my prayers for the children of state orphanages and special needs schools, your dedication demands. It’s easier to hide the atrocities in your kind of nationalist euphoria than even Britain. Bless eh

Lets be honest, there is no point to the Labour Party now. Tonight for me is one of the most shameful things they have ever done.

I see a fracture in the party soon enough, with a smaller left wing breaking off, leaving an anaemic pointless rump of stuffed shirts with no conviction about anything.

I may add to my previous post that old Labour supporters are generally compassionate by nature, and they are being let down by the party

Of course there is a block…. Log off, if things annoyed me I wouldn’t go back to them, if you disagree with posters scroll by if you don’t fancy logging off, I think the best thing to do is keep posting what you think, we are all different and as long as a poster isn’t being abusive I don’t think they are in the wrong even though they might lost a lot of excrement (like myself)
