SPFL bet on China

787

Interesting development reported this morning by the BBC that the SPFL have sold rights to a Chinese broadcaster for around £500k per year.  With rights for major European leagues commanding premium fees, it seems intuitive that there’s space for lower-cost content, but Scottish football must be starting from a position of practically zero market knowledge in China.  Unless Zheng Zhi is a whole lot more popular than I realised.

The other aspect about China to bear in mind is the size and habits of its gambling market.  If you are a gambler, you don’t watch football for the thrill of following your favourite team, you watch for the opportunity to beat the bookie, and in this respect, Scottish football is as valuable as any league.

Sport’s relationship with gambling has been a source of concern, especially in the Scottish lower leagues, but when you look up your fixture list and see the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership, there’s no point getting precious about the influence Chinese gamblers.

I see the Bumblebee’s back!  This NB know how to push our buttons with the retro look.

I know around 100 of you have/can/will run a 10k or half marathon, and a few dozen have told me you’re signing up to do the Great Scottish Run for your Foundation.  You know what it’s about, Health, Education, Learning, Poverty – or in short, it’s about what Celtic means to you and me.

Time to get moving on it.  See the Foundation page here for details.  It’s in October, so there’s a good chance the rain will stop by then.  Let me know when you’ve signed up, celticquicknews@gmail.com

You don’t need to break records, you don’t even need to run the whole course, just get the trainers on and get out there, you’ll be glad you did.

Sorry I wasn’t around to respond.

    Grandfatherly duties.

As much as I am concerned about the sins of the Catholic hierarchy, it does not effect my faith.

The Church is the messenger not the message.

As such it is human with all the frailties we all have.

    And

I’m sure there’s a Catholic PQN blog somewhere in the with priests, canons, monsignors bitching about their superiors, making scathing critiques about their Bishop’s latest Sunday sermon and praising their personal performances in the big Holy Week games.

Two nights and we will all be celebrating a fine Celtic victory and anticipating the next leg.

Cifti obviously has talent but, a biter is a thug…hun/like.

Cellic missed a trick in no getting Shinnie…imho.

    kevjungle,

Ciftci got an 8 game ban with 2 of those suspended until the end of the 2015/16 season, so if he behaves himself it’s a 6 game ban.

Things that make you love The Celtic

Back in 1999, the Celtic Family downunder put on the Southern Hemisphere Convention in Perth WA. It was to be a full long weekender with a Q & A on the Friday night, Dinner Dance on Saturday and finishing off with a golf day on the Sunday.

Guests of honour were Mr and Mrs Billy McNeill, Mr and Mrs Jim Craig, Willie Wallace and Frank Haffey.

As you can imagine, what a weekend it turned out to be, the Q & A on the Friday night heard tales of Lisbon, Milan, Buenos Aires and Montevideo among many others, Frank Haffey entertained with his unique karaoke skills and the Lions mesmerised all of us with tales, humour and humility.

The Dinner Dance was fantastic as on entry, we had the opportunity to have photographs taken with the three great Celts, my particular highlight, being a big guy, was Billy telling me jokingly, “Denis, if there’s any bother tonight then your in my team.” Of course, there was no bother, it was a great Celtic night among heroes who when you meet them, are the most down to earth guys possible with time for everyone.

I got around to sending my family back in Clydebank, a photograph of me with the Lions, it is still sitting proudly on the wall (twice) more than sixteen years later. It’s nights like that you never forget, where for a short moment in time you were among greatness. Among Celtic fans from Oz, NZ, Hong Kong and Singapore and probably other haunts. It’s what makes you love The Celtic

    John Sutton ?

He could hardly get a start with Motherwell, may as well go for John Daly, you really seem to like some pretty average strikers

    big Nadir will score plenty,

Shinnie is pretty average as well

  8. Gerryfaethebrig on

Kev apologies for split post and bad spelling but you its be at the wind up with John Sutton, I don’t even think he will start many games for St Jo

Anyway still no news on the EK weather from our Mexican housewives favourite

  9. Good morning friends from a rather blowy, grey and dismal looking East Kilbride with loads of rain-lovin’ seagulls flying around. Still on holiday this week (from my other job) but not looking too clever for my planned CQN Open Practice Rounds ;-(

  15. Morning all.

Another poor outlook for today, weather-wise, down here.

    Have things improved on CQN?

The rumours yesterday about a couple of Liverpool lads coming on loan, any truth there?

I canny see us getting the bhoy Origrli although would be over the moon if wee did, think us making the group stages will decide on the level of loanees we will attract, if we make group stages don’t be surprised if Jason Denyaner is back till at least January, that is just my opinion no inside info or anything

Totally agree, for a centre half the bhoy never looks troubled, him & Virgil would be a big improvement for most Epl defences

  19. Gerryfaethebrig on

That’s wee Miss GFTB wakened so even though I might not be at work a fathers job is never done, breakfast, opticians then whatever else I will be told I have to do, have a good day fellow Cqners….

Rudi / Thompson still not heard if you are looking forward to cheering on the Hoops in the CL tomorrow……..

  20. Ended up watching the highlights of our 2-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield in 2003 last night. It’s funny (or not) how good Momo Sylla looked in that game.

  21. I’m looking forward to Wednesday’s game (especially if we get an early goal or 2) just to see how Ronny sets up the team.

  22. Mrhenrik67 –

Unbelievable first line that could easily have been penned by Alan Partridge – “BOYHOOD bluenose Halliday reckons he was a supporter before he was even born, having gone to his first Old Firm game when he was still in his mother’s womb……”

  23. Gerry – Sorry for delay fella…stuff to do…no time to do it…one of those ones.

    Anyway….Cifti?

I hope he does ok-think he will…ah still think that he has a ‘streak’ about him that’ll come oot the closet and ‘bite’ Celtic’s erses…so to speak.

John Sutton…I’ve always imagined that if he came to the Celtic…he could be like our very own – Norman Whiteside….opinions eh?

Antipodean Red – I hope ye enjoyed yer time wi Celtic-Royalty

    Hail Hail.

I’ve no seen the new ‘posters’ that have been put on the outside wall of CP yet but…if Murdo isny on there but, Brian McLair is well…it’s joost another styoooopit Celtic View-style-y attempt to kidd-ye-on that yer about to enter the Timdom-Theatre-Of-Dreams….where, if ye sing fae the heart…ye’ll end-up-wi-a-criminal-record…aye….whilst ye pay through the nose to see if, Ronny can make a team oot of all the waifs & strays & free-transfers-etc-blah-blah whilst the charge is on for the much coveted CL-Money-Pot that….joost disappears…magic right enough…eh.

    Take care Tims…oot. YNWA.

    Morning,Kev.

    How’s tricks?

Are you considering giving two fingers to the board by buying a season ticket-or as many matchday tickets as you have time for-despite their presence?

Shooooor hope so. I’ve timed my Autumnal home visit to avoid Celtic games as it seems I’m a bliddy jinx at that time of year. So,an international fortnight for me.

I can see the point, mind. Hamilton and Morton in the last two years, ffs!

    Keep yer chin up,bud. And
