SPFL bet on China

787

Interesting development reported this morning by the BBC that the SPFL have sold rights to a Chinese broadcaster for around £500k per year.  With rights for major European leagues commanding premium fees, it seems intuitive that there’s space for lower-cost content, but Scottish football must be starting from a position of practically zero market knowledge in China.  Unless Zheng Zhi is a whole lot more popular than I realised.

The other aspect about China to bear in mind is the size and habits of its gambling market.  If you are a gambler, you don’t watch football for the thrill of following your favourite team, you watch for the opportunity to beat the bookie, and in this respect, Scottish football is as valuable as any league.

Sport’s relationship with gambling has been a source of concern, especially in the Scottish lower leagues, but when you look up your fixture list and see the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership, there’s no point getting precious about the influence Chinese gamblers.

I see the Bumblebee’s back!  This NB know how to push our buttons with the retro look.

I know around 100 of you have/can/will run a 10k or half marathon, and a few dozen have told me you’re signing up to do the Great Scottish Run for your Foundation.  You know what it’s about, Health, Education, Learning, Poverty – or in short, it’s about what Celtic means to you and me.

Time to get moving on it.  See the Foundation page here for details.  It’s in October, so there’s a good chance the rain will stop by then.  Let me know when you’ve signed up, celticquicknews@gmail.com

You don’t need to break records, you don’t even need to run the whole course, just get the trainers on and get out there, you’ll be glad you did.

It’s not just the trolls I refer to unfortunately, there’s regular posters who talk Celtic a lot (The stuff I love to read about) who can’t help but put a a very one sided commentary on current events. There are still many who think Celtic can only be politically aligned one way and that’s the one in their head. We are an eclectic Club with a range of supporters and if we grow as expected, this diversity will widen, so perhaps just better to leave it for Politics quick news.

  4. I can’t believe that some posters think Motherwell may be in the relegation mix… They beat the Mighty Sevco twice, if they can do that they must be world beaters.

  5. I hardly ever post or visit CQN nowadays…too many posters missing their CPN appointments… And seeking therapy on the blog. I can’t help these people they need proper professional help…

No problem with people explaining their views on the topic of the day. But it really should be as an aside rather than the equivalent of a new thread.

Coupla years back I posted an article which I thought might be of interest, with the words-posted without comment. That was because I thought it may be of interest to people on here but didn’t think it worthy of comment on the site.

I was immediately asked why I posted it if I didn’t have an opinion on it!

Heyho, silly season should be over soon. Fingers crossed.

I think a lot of it is about how the SMSM try and talk up their waifs and strays into the next Messi, Alves etc that we enjoy.

Looking ahead to this season in our league, I think Aberdeen, Dundee and County are the only teams, not including us, who’ve strengthened.

Mid-table for Utd, ICT, Motherwell and Saints.

Hamilton look weak and Thistle don’t have Scott Fox (I think). Kilmarnock will have ructions in the dressing room to combat and I’ll be surprised and disappointed, in equal measure, to see Hearts finish higher than eleventh.

Bring it all on, I can’t wait for it to begin.

fraid you will just have to sup it up mate/scroll by.Celtic by there very foundation are berthed in politics,to suggest anything else or attempt to sanitise debate is silly imo.how the poor are affected for instance aligns itself to our clubs ethos.I feel there are many who are excluded from our club because they simply cant afford it and to talk about this politics must come into it.I talked politics during GE and referendum and its over now, however it just makes it all the more obvious when trolls attack this site, which they are doing with increasing regularity and these are the skanks i hope you are referring to as i know from reading you have Celtic in your heart.

interesting that UK Labour assisting the passage of welfare cuts on the poorest of the poor hardly gets a mention in todays MSM…..good old Auntie even called it a revolt…with 40 odds of them actually remembering who they are supposed to be speaking up for ….this Labour / Tory government is stranger than the last one ……

    no sae braw

    —————————————————————————————————————-

Labour have ALWAYS been on the side of the poorest and the working class – where do you think the HUNDREDS of Bills/Acts that have gone through parliament came from – they only came when there was a LABOUR government.

They are not, and should never be, on the side of the work-shy and those who, although fit for work, choose not to, and use the benefit system as a lifestyle choice.

There are some families who have never worked in FOUR generations – BY CHOICE.

Governments don’t have money – they get their funds from the taxes of working people and companies.

Why should working people strive and work, just to pay benefits to the workshy?

It is because of those who abuse the system, and the bad publicity that brings, that all genuine benefit claimants are disgustingly ‘tarred with the same brush’

Anyone who is in genuine need of benefits through no fault of their own, should get the absolute MAXIMUM that the state can provide.

But people who play the benefit system, con ordinary working people who have to WORK, into paying for their idle and irresponsible lifestyle.

NO MORE being able to get a flat/house, Housing Benefit, Tax Credits and Child Benefit, just by getting pregnant to escape living in the family home – other kids get a job and can only get a flat when they can afford it – BY WORKING.

NO MORE leaving school on a Friday and ‘signing on’ for benefits on a Monday – Education, Training, or, a job, should be the ONLY choice for those able-bodied and fit to work.

NO MORE having as many kids a you like and claiming more and more benefit for each addition – working people have to make tough choices on the size of their families, so should benefit claimants.

Have these people, and we all know them, who “will neither work, nor, want”, to coin a phrase from the past, got no pride, self-respect and common decency towards their fellow member of the working-class, who have to get up in the morning to pay for their hand-outs?

DON’T have a go on the basis of GENUINE people, the old, sick and disabled – as I have said these people should get more at present, and, the absolute MAXIMUM the state can provide.
