SPFL bet on China

787

Interesting development reported this morning by the BBC that the SPFL have sold rights to a Chinese broadcaster for around £500k per year.  With rights for major European leagues commanding premium fees, it seems intuitive that there’s space for lower-cost content, but Scottish football must be starting from a position of practically zero market knowledge in China.  Unless Zheng Zhi is a whole lot more popular than I realised.

The other aspect about China to bear in mind is the size and habits of its gambling market.  If you are a gambler, you don’t watch football for the thrill of following your favourite team, you watch for the opportunity to beat the bookie, and in this respect, Scottish football is as valuable as any league.

Sport’s relationship with gambling has been a source of concern, especially in the Scottish lower leagues, but when you look up your fixture list and see the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership, there’s no point getting precious about the influence Chinese gamblers.

I see the Bumblebee’s back!  This NB know how to push our buttons with the retro look.

I know around 100 of you have/can/will run a 10k or half marathon, and a few dozen have told me you’re signing up to do the Great Scottish Run for your Foundation.  You know what it’s about, Health, Education, Learning, Poverty – or in short, it’s about what Celtic means to you and me.

Time to get moving on it.  See the Foundation page here for details.  It’s in October, so there’s a good chance the rain will stop by then.  Let me know when you’ve signed up, celticquicknews@gmail.com

You don’t need to break records, you don’t even need to run the whole course, just get the trainers on and get out there, you’ll be glad you did.

Scott Allan story planted by PR company to media poodles to try to boost much needed ST sales and unsettle a rival player they happen to be up against this weekend.

  2. No idea what relevance having diabetes is to Scott Allan’s abilitu as a football player- Danny mcgrain and Gary mabbutt, to name but two, were diabetic and they did OK. I am also diabetic but my lack of progress was more down to limited ability rather than my condition!

  3. Anyone watching the Hibees v Sevco game on Sunday will see that Allan has no problems with fitness.Always looking for the ball, always trying to create. He also takes a great corner.

Very skilfull boy.Someone I ,personally love to watch playing football.

Hope he plays a blinder this weekend.Might be Saturday, right enough.

interesting that UK Labour assisting the passage of welfare cuts on the poorest of the poor hardly gets a mention in todays MSM…..good old Auntie even called it a revolt…with 40 odds of them actually remembering who they are supposed to be speaking up for ….this Labour / Tory government is stranger than the last one ……

KevJ as you know it’s all about opinions, by the way Scott Allan couldnae lace Stuart Armstrongs boots, watched him a bit last season and a half decent player got a feeling him & John McGinn might be at tannadice next season then in 2016 we will pay £2m for them, think Peter Lawell & Stephen Thompson are up to something

logged on to get a bit of perspective on the biting ban for Ciftci and thought I’d logged into some kind of gay Celtic fight club. WTF.

It’s widely mentioned, mate. But as a revolt against the leadership rather than a vote of conscience and an example of why they were elected.

Frankly disgusted by that latest vote, and that those who voted the right way had to defy a three-line whip to do so.

Skippy will give Motherwell 15+ goals this season and that is probably enough to see them well out of trouble.

  11. Livibhoy i agree i think he is a very talented player indeed . It was just the Hibee fan reckons he runs out of steam after 60 or so minutes because of the diabetes . On the few occassions i have seen he has been decent . Do not know if he is any better than what we have at the moment though .

I really am in a cold sweat.

  20. Is it just that folk run out of Celtic or football stuff to talk and politics is their go to for their daily dose of attention.

I’m not on here as much these days and historically I have challenged party propaganda, however, never campaigned like many.

But right now the blog is not a Celtic blog.

For the record, nobody cares about you or anyone else’s commentary on Politics here or abroad. If we wanted that we’d all go to our favoured news source. We have twitter and those who don’t access the blog through the internet which, apparently, is world wide in it’s web.

So please, try to stick to Celtic and fitba. I don’t mind taking the flack for this post but many log on here to escape from politics and news as it’s often an emotive subject.

I liked Marc Crosas. Tody wee player and obviously loves the club but I think he is one of the most over rated players who have left us in recent years. I’m afraid he couldn;t cut it as much as we wanted him to he just couldn;t do it.

    To answer your question though

I think Hinkel would revel in this system. Often forgotten and excellent player.

Robbie Keane in the one up front role. He would score a barrow load. Custom designed for that role.

  30. Livibhoy he has matured as a player in Mexico, but I agree never had all the elements for Central Mid in Scotland. If we’d been playing this system then, perhaps he would have moulded into a different player……

I agree re Keane, and Andy it was just something that passed my mind the other day, probably quite a few who’d fit and some who just wouldn’t …..

  31. Martim1980

Personally I am of the Brian Clough and Gordon Strachan school of thinking. You can talk about systems all you want but the game is about players. A good player should fit any system but I think there will always be players who excel in different systems and possibly a slight change of position.

It’s an interesting question though. Might be some interesting answers on this one.

Re your earlier post about the dark triad of trolls, the problem seems to be that they have experience of dealing with dissent.

We are mere amateurs by comparison as we expect people to by and large play nice-even when they’re on one.

The only way to deal with it-IMO-is by a concerted rather than fragmented and individual response.
