Spinning Struth, high integrity and some great Celtic fans

749

It will make little difference to those who really should be paying attention.  Malcolm Murray left the Rangers International board yesterday with a statement to fans unlike anything previously heard from a departing director of a Scottish football club.  His warning is loud and clear, “Events of the last year have seen behaviour that would make the late, great, Bill Struth spin in his grave (no, he doesn’t mean the fact that all faiths are now employed at Ibrox)”.

It’ll make little difference because the groundwork has already been laid to ignore anything Malcolm Murray says by those who in previous years did the bidding of David Murray, Craig Whyte and Charles Green.  Notions of having a club “run by men of the highest integrity” don’t fit the narrative, talk of “mysterious individuals” will not be heard.

We’re now watching the equivalent of the opening scenes of Police Academy 4, the same farce will unfold with increasingly less interest from the wider world.

I know lots of good Celtic fans, lots and lots of them. Respect today to those who buy Overseas Season Tickets, meaning they can attend five games per season, but they buy tickets to 16 games for underprivileged supporters.

We are part of a genuinely incredible body of people. Stories like this simply don’t happen elsewhere. If you’re part of ‘the programme’, well done.

Just checked, Police Academy 4 was subtitled ‘Citizens on Patrol’. If only!!

Beerschot (Newco) are set for a £600,000 windfall as Wanyama’s transfer to Southhamption triggers a 5% sell on clause.

    ………………………………………………

how is it possible that a newco can get a sell on clause when the contract is with the oldco, surely if anything the creditors should get the money, no?

Thanks big Vic for some great moments over the last 2 years. I think within another 2 years he’ll be at Arsenal or Chelsea or ManU.

I was thinking about PL earlier. During transfer windows he is required to deal with the most insincere, back stabbing, lying, conniving and cheating agents and players who for sure are not concerned about what is good for Celtic Footbal Club, with a few exceptions….maybe.

I think he’s learned much over the years about how to deal with them and that has to benefit our club.

    Just my opinion of course.

The manager moving centre halves to add to the defensive central midfielders should be a concern, suggests there’s no replacement coming in.

Though we shouldn’t need to add to the army of defensive central midfielders, it may mean we might stick a creative in there….

Good luck to big Victor ! Will really miss watching him do his stuff, as he was a really good player.

My 2 favourite Wanyama moments ( yes I have 2 ) are the goal against Barcelona, and also the goal v Hearts at Celtic Park when we beat them 1-0 in December 2011. What a strike that was. I think big Fraser saved a penalty at the end of that match too.

Going to miss singing the Wanyama song too, great wee tune.

But we are Celtic, and we carry on. We have survived the loss of more important and longer serving players over the years and we will survive once more.

Financially it is a great piece of business for us.Thanks for the memories big man, although a few more would have been nice. HH

EN – both Scott Brown and Joe Ledley were regarded by their former clubs as attacking midfielders, good at getting on the end of things in the opposition box with well-timed runs from midfield.

Are they regarded the same way at Celtic? Maybe in the SPL, but certainly not in European games.

They have been turned in to play safe side passers, rarely forward passing or creating. Our whole plan is get it wide to wingers or score from set pieces. Easy to guard against if any other team knows what they are doing, on our day we can defend outstanding as Barcelona proved, but that game was won by pure Celtic magic as well as good defensive tactics.

Close down our wingers and we are even more blunt than normal. We are far too cautious in domestic games, considering the opposition we should be doing a lot better in creativity and entertainment in the SPL.

big vic as far as i could see always gave everything, was a model professional and has now gave the club a huge amount of money to invest in new players, new contracts for existing players that want to and are good enough to stay, improve stadium, pay taxes, in fact everything a well run club should do or we could just spend it all on a torre andre flo …. maybe not hail hail big vic and i will never forget how i felt when that header hit the net against barca

players making noises about leaving and when they do its PL’s fault, he tends to get good deals for the club makes a profit from transfers then gets crucified cause celtic make a profit or he gets a bonus.

Considering that Swansea have forked out 12mil for a striker who scored 15 consecutive goals in 10 league games in a league that is a wee bit more competitive than the SPLI would probably think that Big Peterhasgot more than double the market value for Victor Wanyamaand has to be considered a great bit of business

  24. This is a real important time for our club.

Will we invest in quality players for the Vic money or continue the bargain basement plan?

IMO we need to show our intent with at least 2 proven players.

Also need to tie up Gary and pay him similar to the top earners( assuming he would stay)

Reading the posts regarding the bigots with Our Lady’s Statue,I like all of the tradional hymns, but the more modern one is a favourite. Our Lady of Knock,at one of my daughters weddings in St Mary’s Fanavolty, was played and sung,it was truly uplifting.

  27. If it had been a group of Muslims burning Our Lady on a bonfire, what would be the headline in the Sun tomorrow?

  28. Whilst Celtic play in the SPL out better players will always be sold to EPL clubs who pay up to 10 times what we pay our players.

Very few players can resist the massive increase in remuneration that an EPL club will pay.

The size of the club compared to Celtic is irrelevant .

It’s the remuneration package that matters to most players and their agents.

If Celtic are ever to build a team to win the CL ,it cannot be done from the SPL.

Celtic must get out of Scotland and into a league set up that will pay TV revenues that match the big four Euro leagues.

We are withering in a European context.

Use the Wanyama money to buy an English club and work our way up the leagues.
