Spirit of 67 reached out and touched us

431

As the excitement of Saturday begins to fade perspective begins to dawn. If Hollywood scripted homage to Lisbon, this was it. The stage was set 50 years and two days after the event for a truly unique, inVIncible, treble.

In ’67, Celtic came from behind. In 2017, they did the same. In ’67, Inter tired as a relentless Celtic pressed for the winner, just as Aberdeen did on Saturday. You and me have left Hampden after many cup wins, but I don’t remember as elated a crowd as Saturday’s. It was as though the Spirit of ’67 reached out and touched us.

Stuart Armstrong and Tom Rogic will compete with each other, and with new faces, for the precious central midfield roles next season, but both delivered big time on Saturday. It you watch Stuart’s goal, it had a touch of the Tommy Gemmell’s about it, with Shay Logan turning side-on, just as the nearest Inter defender to Tommy did.

“Don’t let him get onto his left”, is surely what every defender says when facing Tom Rogic. In particular, every Aberdeen defender. The big Aussie is so potent with his left foot. But we all need a second option in life, and Tom’s is the confidence and ability to take a chance on his right.

Stuart and Tom will both improve next season. Think about that.

Good to catch up with you after the race through Dublin airport to get our flight home.

Spoke with Lionsroars67 today and he is home Thursday

Remember, Sat June 17th for a CQN summer beer bash

    LOL.

    ‘Catch up with me’?

I couldn’t catch up with you two on that bloody 1500m sprint for the flight :))

Providing Dublin aiport with their afternoon entertainement. Hollering after you to ‘tell them we’re coming!’

Boarding the 2pm flight at 1.57pm and then sitting on the bloody runway for half an hour sweating out every last drop of lisbon bevvy and making your – and ThunderRoad’s – acquaintance.

Crazy, amusing end to a greta few days.

Fingers crossed for the 17th. Ok if my running mate(s) you met at the Glasgow baggage reclaim tag along too, work committments not withstanding? I can vouch for their Timness.

  2. Some gentlemen earlier telling us to cut down on the euphoria after all the only barometer of success is Europe. If we don’t hammer Juventus & Real Madrid this year then Brendan can GTF.

Well this Tim won’t stop celebrating for a long long time. Just spent last hour trawling through YouTube videos of game, fan celebrations etc & I’m loving it.

So they can stick their advice where the Sun don’t shine, KT I can watch that video of you holding up that Cup a hundred times and I’ll not tire of it.

  3. Gooooood evening CQN :-)

DD, just seen the photo from CR7 bar – my wife has just put it up on her Facebook :-) brilliant

Now football talk, my opinion only

Hayes is every bit the player we have in James Forrest, for me he creates more, and would be good for our forwards

Wouldn’t be letting Christie go either, there is a player there

  4. CRC, 17th June, noted and in the diary, no promises, but every effort will be made.

Still on for Friday? And transfer of the Stuart Armstrong signed shirt?

  5. So it seems winning the treble is not much of an achievement because we have so much money compared to the opposition but we should be doing better against European teams even though they have a lot more money..?

Barcelona income 2016 670 million Euros

I am still on a natural high after our better than I ever imagined season .

Last week was out of this world with it ending in dramatic and brilliant style on Saturday.

Stuart and Tom both scoring with their ‘standing foot’ showed to me our players are very confident and have been encouraged to use both feet , which is always welcome .

If our performances and results , particularly in away European games , get better , i will be on an even higher natural high .

When Rangers APPEARED to have a load of money, the MSSM praised them for it and wrote many a gloating article when comparing them with the rest of Scottish football. Fans of other teams never seemed to mention this financial discrepancy. Now, as it is Celtic, hardly an article is written giving unstinting praise; there is inevitably a mention of our financial superiority.

    Goodnight all,

Jude, I’m looking foward to the new series of Fargo

Billy Bob Thornton stole the show in the first series of it . One of the best tv show baddies I have watched.

The second series was really good also.

Its a pity Josh has left Celtic but at this stage in his career , he probably has to do what’s best for his career and I wish him all the best for the future.

Brighton boss, Chris Hughton is a good guy . Radio 5’s monday night club a few weeks ago were discussing the set up at Brighton . All agreed the facilities Brighton have are top notch with an extremely good training ground.

Was good to meet you despite the sweatyness!

  11. Change of subject here…. headed into town today and had tried to book a table at La Lanterna for lunch; no answer to my call so I assumed they were closed.

Instead myself and the good wife headed to Paesano in Miller St and enjoyed a fantastic Pizza.

Top class food, limited menu as they stick to what they are good at and you can’t book a table. However the service is great( means a lot to me ) and the quality of ingredients shone through on this basic food, Top class Sicilian Catterato wine, I was driving so the wife passed on that comment .

Well worth a visit. Medium price range, £ 10 was the highest price for one of the daily special pizza’s.

Incidentally, they are very generous portions.

Target for 2016 /17 season for me was to qualify for champions league group stages and win the league.

So my targets were in the bag early. After that it was just a matter of sitting back and enjoying the ride

I actually thought we might lose all 6 champion’s league games, and to be honest that would have been ok,

But the season just kept getting better and better, 2 down at half time at Motherwell I thought well sure we have to lose sometime. .but we didn’t

So my target for 17/18 season is to qualify for champion’s league group stages and win the league.

Anything else will be a bonus. .

    Have we not celebrated enough

I think we should go to Lisbon every year and we shouldn’t necessarily have to wait until the 25th May either

  15. DD, that’s nasty; but your’re right – my heart sank of Wednesday morning when I bumped into John from Oz and he told us about Lionsroar67’s nightmare.

TR – good to meet you big man, but I was almost crawling up those last few steps of the plane when I did!

I think we need to remember what Brendan inherited when he arrived. It was a squad short in confidence, lacking in belief and with a poor mentality. After the Red Imps fiasco we travelled half way across the world to play Astana with a defensive partnership of Ambrose and O’Connell. Entry into the CL was a fantastic achievement as it will be again next season if we manage it. Any achievement over and above that would be nothing short of miraculous given our financial position relative to others.
