Split Fifa grounds to withdraw 2022 award

661

Sep Blatter hoped that Fifa would today ratify moving the 2022 World Cup, which will take place in Qatar, to the (i.e. Europe’s) winter months, however, that looks unlikely to happen.  Fifa are split on the matter while Uefa president, Michel Platini, is keener to focus today’s meeting on the working conditions of migrant workers based in Qatar.

Right now Fifa have no grounds to withdraw the award of the World Cup hosting rights from Qatar, the award was made in full knowledge of the country’s climate.  The treatment of migrant workers could change this.  Fifa can insist that World Cup preparations do not expose workers to undue risk or inappropriate conditions.  If Qatar cannot deliver within acceptable working practices the basis for legal grounds to withdraw the award has been established.

I wouldn’t book tickets for Qatar just yet.

The most enduring frustration from Tuesday night is for Charlie Mulgrew.  Playing in his fourth choice position, which would never really be a choice Charlie would make, he did exactly what was asked of him against Iniesta and Xavi.  His chance on 73 minutes could just as easily have bounced inside the post, which would have bestowed appropriate appreciation for the effort one of our own has put into his career.

Bring on the Ajax.

I’m curious as to who gave the £2.5m personal guarantee to lend Rangers International money, noted in their accounts this week. This is as big a financial commitment anyone has made to the Newco in some time.

Ok watched the games v Meelan and Barca this season and the under 19 v Barca at Greenock

Also v Juve, Barca and Benfica last season.

We have a lot going for us – except that we give the ball away a lot and their players in all age categories look hungrier, leaner, fitter, more mobile and seem to move a lot more purposefully.

There are exceptions at paradise that prove rule…

We are not encouraging our lads to adopt the best habits – it is evident out there on the pitch

I love Celts and know there are guys bursting a gut in games for the jersey

I am doubting if they are really putting in enough on the training ground or lifestyle

The Barca under 19 ‘s looked and behaved like young men – our lads look like wee lads skilfulishh but not anywhere crisp or sharp enough

We need to observe and learn as we continue on the CL journey

Citeh prove that money and big names not enough to succeed on the big stage- even good pedigree purchases coming to UK seem to adopt the casual mindset that inflicts home grown lads

It’s glaringly obvious we need an adjustment in approach

    Celts can lead the way

    Hear, Hear.

My memory of the Lions was that they can out on the park and basically swarmed all over the opposition, we were fitter, faster and stronger and had good players allied to a fantastic team spirit. As a country , we have regressed big time in the last 40 odd years.

The Bayern performance was an eye opener, they did something similar to Arsenal last year so they can stand up to tougher tackling teams as well as the tippy tappy Spaniards like Barca.

In the here and now our reputation in Europe is now as a tough outfit with a lot of technical limitations. This is fairly damaging and will do us no favours in attracting players. Our main issue is that we need players with a better touch in the midfield , at present in the SPL we are like kings in a poor league but in the CL against decent opposition our inability to take a ball cleanly under pressure, just puts us under the cosh ….. we cannot buy our way out of this problem and from what you say the revolution may need to wait a while as the under-19 youngsters sound like much the same as the bhoys which have come through over the last wee while.

I think we have to accept where Scottish football is at the moment both at club and International level we are a small nation and cannot compete with the financial big players. We have seen poster after poster congratulate Celtic on there two Champions league matches both of which we lost now back in Celtics hey- day under Jock Stein we would have felt confident that we could have won those games. However, times change and the support realise in the main that we are doing well in our limited enviroment success for us now is still being in Europe after Christmas. We will contiue to try and bring in promising youngsters and improve them and sell them on at a profit big Fraser and Virgil and Efe looking like the next group for us to profit from.I believe Sammy,Joe and anton can all leave at the end of the season for free unless they sign new contracts which at the moment there is no sign of that happening. Now that means Lennie will be looking to rebuild again no easy task so we are right to be pleased that we have been competitive against both Milan and Barcelona and hopefull we can still get European football after Christmas even if it is the Europa League. 9. Just managed to get re-registered on this site after a few years. I left after the hacking scandal into email addresses but I have lurked ever since.

I know the debate has moved on but yesterday someone(Benjg?) posted on Celtic’s inability to pass the ball. One reason for this may be the style that seems to have been bred(coached?) into the team. That is, passing the ball sideways. You are unlikely to fail with a pass doing that—however passing forward and passing long has greater risk of failure.

Are the team discouraged from taking risks in their passing? Even against SPL opposition, it is sideways, sideways too often. The Morton game was another example.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Biton. The few times that I have seen him, he is prepared to pass forward. Will this be coached out of him? Time will tell.

I noticed that, for example, Sno arrived with the ability to pass forward to feet. In no time, he was into the culture of sideways, safe passes. Ambrose has suffered from the same, although he still tries (occasionally) to move the ball up the park.

Derk, in his cameo, went bye his marker and sent in crosses—now, he tends to push the ball backwards and not risk forward movement. Is it him or is it the coaching?

Anyway, let’s see if this posts—if it doesn’t don’t reply!

I agree with you that our Under-19s looked like boys against young men in the games against AC Milan and Barca. The positive thing was that they kept possession against Barca much better than the senior team. But I am never too hopeful about our youngsters. It doesn’t help that they are not given a chance in the first team often enough – the game against Morton was a perfect opportunity.

Both sides began Group L with one-goal

defeats – Shakhter against PAOK FC and

Maccabi Haifa against AZ Alkmaar – but it

was the Kazakh side who appeared set to

make amends on matchday two with first-half

goals from Andrei Finonchenko and Yevgeni

Tarasov. Ariel Benado rang the changes at the

break, though, with Hen Ezra and Alon

Turgeman earning his men a draw.

Aleksandar Simčević was the stand-out player

of the first half and he should have opened the

hosts’ account inside six minutes only to

blaze over with just the goalkeeper to beat.

Ariel Benado’s men offered little in response

with a whipped cross-cum-shot across goal

from Avihay Yadin their most threatening

    moment.

Simčević called Bojan Šaranov into action

from a half-cleared corner but the goalkeeper

could do nothing with the final two efforts of

the first half. Finonchenko rose above Taleb

Twatha to plant a firm header past Šaranov

from Gevorg Ghazaryan’s cross on 40 minutes

before Avihay Yadin could only flick Simčević’s

cross into the path of Tarasov, who controlled

expertly before scoring on the stroke of half-

    time.

Maccabi Haifa were a different proposition

after the resumption, however, grabbing a

lifeline when half-time substitute Ezra swept

in after 54 minutes from a loose ball in the

home area. Shakhter appeared to have quelled

the visitors’ intent until eleven minutes from

time, when their other second-half replacement

Alon Turgeman took aim from distance and

beat Aleksandr Mokin with a sensational

    dipping drive.

Took this up a few months ago and here is the reply. I felt sufficiently upset by the article that i made the complaint. Not sure it goes for enough but at least it highlighted the issue!!!

    Dear Mr xxxx,

I write further to your email correspondence with my colleague xxxxxx regarding your complaint against the Scottish Sun.

The Commission issued the following decision on 3 September, in which it ruled that the newspaper published misleading information in breach of the Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors’ Code of Practice, but that the breach was sufficiently remedied by the newspaper’s remedial action:

Commission’s decision in the case of

A man v The Scottish Sun (Sunday)

The complainant objected to the inclusion of several photographs, depicting Celtic Football Club fans, in an article which had reported that the team coach of Rangers Football Club had been ‘torched by yobs’. He expressed concern that readers of the article would have been misled to think that Celtic fans had been involved in the reported incident, in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors’ Code of Practice.

Under the terms of Clause 1 (i), newspapers must take care not to publish inaccurate information, and Clause 1 (ii) makes clear that significantly misleading information must be corrected promptly, and with due prominence.

The photographs in question were published in the newspaper’s print edition, as part of a separate report about Celtic F.C.’s win over Brentford. The newspaper said the images were incorporated into its online report about the Rangers bus accidentally, and it did not seek to argue that anyone connected to Celtic F.C. had been involved with the reported incident. While the Commission acknowledged this explanation, however, there had clearly been a failure to take care not to publish inaccurate information.

Furthermore, while the article had not explicitly alleged that Celtic F.C. supporters were involved in the reported incident, the inclusion of the photographs in the online report clearly inferred that the two stories were connected, and thus there was clearly the potential for readers to have been significantly misled. Accordingly, the newspaper offered to publish the following clarification: ‘An earlier version of this article mistakenly included photographs of Celtic F.C. fans, taken from another report. At no point was there any suggestion that Celtic F.C. fans had been involved in the attack on the Rangers F.C. bus, and we are happy to clarify the matter’.

Its prompt publication would, in the Commission’s view, represent sufficient remedial action under the terms of Clause 1 (ii) of the Code.

Please don’t hesitate to contact the PCC in the future.

    Kind regards

  28. Yorkbhoy-both go hand in hand IMO,we could do with earlier passes forward and get guys making more than one run off a defender.

  29. difficult one rebus – fitness/stamina/can keep running isn’t his thing but there’s no one on the bench that can occupy the holes he does/twist and turn like ’em/ make chances that weren’t there and I wouldn’t like to take him off with a team bougth with the money we have

  30. Rebus

Our unwillingness to make a forward pass is baffling.

We are a very static and cautious team so no surprise we take the easy and sideways passes.

This has been a hallmark of Neil’s tenure so I have to believe that it’s a coaching directive.

Our superior squad usually has enough to get victories in the spl.

in Europe this reactive style will make us hard to beat but will produce few wins.

Being a purely reactive team also takes a physical toll as your opponent dictates pace and forces you to run more.

The coaches have to add some proactive elements to our style or we will stagnate even in spl as opponents will devise ways to beat our superior players like Morton did.
