Split Fifa grounds to withdraw 2022 award

661

Sep Blatter hoped that Fifa would today ratify moving the 2022 World Cup, which will take place in Qatar, to the (i.e. Europe’s) winter months, however, that looks unlikely to happen.  Fifa are split on the matter while Uefa president, Michel Platini, is keener to focus today’s meeting on the working conditions of migrant workers based in Qatar.

Right now Fifa have no grounds to withdraw the award of the World Cup hosting rights from Qatar, the award was made in full knowledge of the country’s climate.  The treatment of migrant workers could change this.  Fifa can insist that World Cup preparations do not expose workers to undue risk or inappropriate conditions.  If Qatar cannot deliver within acceptable working practices the basis for legal grounds to withdraw the award has been established.

I wouldn’t book tickets for Qatar just yet.

The most enduring frustration from Tuesday night is for Charlie Mulgrew.  Playing in his fourth choice position, which would never really be a choice Charlie would make, he did exactly what was asked of him against Iniesta and Xavi.  His chance on 73 minutes could just as easily have bounced inside the post, which would have bestowed appropriate appreciation for the effort one of our own has put into his career.

Bring on the Ajax.

I’m curious as to who gave the £2.5m personal guarantee to lend Rangers International money, noted in their accounts this week. This is as big a financial commitment anyone has made to the Newco in some time.

Ok watched the games v Meelan and Barca this season and the under 19 v Barca at Greenock

Also v Juve, Barca and Benfica last season.

We have a lot going for us – except that we give the ball away a lot and their players in all age categories look hungrier, leaner, fitter, more mobile and seem to move a lot more purposefully.

There are exceptions at paradise that prove rule…

We are not encouraging our lads to adopt the best habits – it is evident out there on the pitch

I love Celts and know there are guys bursting a gut in games for the jersey

I am doubting if they are really putting in enough on the training ground or lifestyle

The Barca under 19 ‘s looked and behaved like young men – our lads look like wee lads skilfulishh but not anywhere crisp or sharp enough

We need to observe and learn as we continue on the CL journey

Citeh prove that money and big names not enough to succeed on the big stage- even good pedigree purchases coming to UK seem to adopt the casual mindset that inflicts home grown lads

It’s glaringly obvious we need an adjustment in approach

    Celts can lead the way

“Some people have been suggesting a change in manager. Why not start to develop a wholly new approach? Why not send, say, John Kennedy to Barcelona for a couple of years to learn how they run their youth set-up particularly and try to do the same here? Pep Guardiola seems to have been a product and he is the very best there is, as managers go.

Do not advocate a change of Manager, Lenny was always going to be inexperienced for a job like Celtic but he’s learning quickly and his passion for the Club more than makes up for any lack of experience.

But what you say is correct, getting a different mindset into Lennoxtown could be very beneficial.

Those in the know seem to say things are going well at Lennoxtown, well all I can go on is the players technique, fittness and the youngsters coming through…

Is it any better than Barrowfield?

Some posted a while back we have 20+ coaches, now at first glance that can seem excessive but if you think of all the teams and the extra time to work on specifics that some players would require maybe not so.

But I’m sure amongst those guys we could fit in Lubo, great technique, great experience and the likes of Henrik and Maloney said he helped them.

Just heard on Talksport that the biggest, by far, contributor to the TV rights for the World Cup is USA.

They will not pay top rate if shifted to the winter as it would clash with NFL and College football.

    Go with the money.

    …………………..

Googybhoy, that comment says it all I think.

With all the USA involvement wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen and now possibly Syria…

Beginning in 1992, Qatar has built intimate military ties with the United States, and is now the location of U.S. Central Command’s Forward Headquarters and the Combined Air Operations Center.

The following American bases currently exist:

    Al Udeid Air Base

    As Saliyah Army Base

    Doha International Air Base

I know that US troops on leave from Iraq & Afghanistan also use Qatar as a R&R venue.

Never been there but maybe some on here could comment on the USA influence and the construction contracts and the oil.

The Qatar population in 2012 was 1,823,903

The Northern Ireland population in 2011 was 1,810,863.

Wales has 3 million people and Scotland has about 5 million.

Can you imagine the World Cup ever being allocated to Northern Ireland?

No me neither, but never mind at least Qatar isn’t in a high risk military security zone…..oh wait..

I used Crosas to illustrate the type of player we should be looking for given our financial circumstances. Not for one minute do I compare him to Modric, Messi etc but I just hope you follow my drift. Mind you, Modric would be great for us don’t you think. Maybe KOJO could subsidise his wages,eh!!
