I remember my old man telling me years ago that he older you get, the harder it is to handle watching big games. For twenty years I’ve been bailing out of dead club games if we’re one up with 15 to go, or switching telly off, or walking around the Gorbals when at the brazen. Tomorrow I’ll be taking a slow walk down to my ma’s grave, as soon as the game kicks off. It’ll be the first time I’ve done so . I’m sure there’s plenty like me.

Just my thoughts on the way the flag issue has developed.
It could have been done better, done more inclusively and done more constructively.
Not a fan of the Ultra vibe — too elitist for my liking, too much look at me.
Consequently the GB’s flag waving is to my mind student politics porn.

The matching the fine for Palestine could have been used better ………
Tony, I am using your post as an example, so it’s not a dig at you.
I will start by stating quite clearly that I was against the flying of the Palestinian flag before the game last Wednesday and stated that on here and on other websites. I will say quite clearly now, I WAS WRONG!>/b>
The issue of the protest has made news worldwide and circulated significantly on social media. This was compounded by the reaction to UEFA citing Celtic for an “illegal banner” (I think it would be the GB banner with the skull or the Arabic banner in the Celtic end, not the flags themselves).
However, what has swamped both of them is the fantastic reaction to the GB #matchthefinepalestine campaign (https://www.gofundme.com/matchfinepalestine). This has now raised over £29,000 in less than 24 hours! This is getting coverage even from the SMSM who cannot ignore it and it will filter through to international news outlets throughout the day.
I am 100% certain that any fund-raising campaign would not have had the coverage or the momentum WITHOUT the flag protest last week. I was one of those suggesting that it was a pointless exercise that would achieve nothing. I take back, and regret those words. As BMCUWP stated earlier, I would’ve been right in there with it 30 years ago! And I do feel proud of the stance that the GB and others took on my behalf. They don’t always get it right, but this time they have, IMHO, shamed those of us who stood back and criticised. The club can well afford any fine meted out by UEFA and as someone (can’t remember who) pointed out earlier, UEFA won’t want to fear any backlash that would come their way if Celtic are heavily punished for this. A fine will be all we will get.
So, stop the complaining and whining. We were wrong and they were right – get over it; got to https://www.gofundme.com/matchfinepalestine and “get yer cards oot for the bhoys”! And maybe a wee tweet, e-mail or Facebook message to Celtic FC challenging them to match the money raised by the GB campaign!
That is why Celtic are more than just a club!

I’ll wait for the club to condone the flag display.
It’s been nearly a week and no condemnation yet, perhaps they have bigger fish to fry.
Perhaps you lads on here that found the flag display so abhorrent could get together and write a strongly worded letter to the board indicating your shock and disgust at their silence. I’m sure you could find a suitable empty phone box and draft something legible. You could set up a donation page in order to garner the price of a stamp.
Or, if you really wanted to impact the Green Brigade, why don’t you start a petition on the internet, i’m sure those 100+ k signatures would indicate that the majority of the Celtic support believe what you have been churning out here for the past few day and therefore you could, without fear, nor favour crawl back atop that moral pedestal and pontificate to your hearts content, at the same time putting those in the Green Brigade in their ‘rightful’ place. It’s a win, win for you Tony.
Go for it, i would love to see the response to that little venture.

I share your concern about ultra culture and I’ve said so on here.
But I wouldn’t go throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
The GB are to be commended for what they did. Their aim (which was to publicly express solidarity with the Palestinians, not to initiate or contribute to a debate within Israel) has been achieved.
And I say that as someone who has repeatedly criticised them on here for bottling it at the Hapoel game.

I was disappointed to see BR apparently trotting out the same line as the Hearts player Walker.
‘Leigh felt contact and went down ‘ Why? It is supposed to be a physical game where there will inevitably contact.
Like all the puling and hauling at corners, only referees with the balls to order off without question will stop the above abuses of the laws of the game.
