Always have been – and it’s always been profitable.

  2. Obviously the hierarchy had no problem with this display as i’m sure they would have mentioned it in the statement issued just after the statement issued by Uefa to garner favour with the beaks.

Sorry they waved Palestinian flags, that’s it, no banners with any political message, no antisemitism messages, just flags, in section 107 no voices of dissent on the waving of flags, just wee jamsie still getting it, some things are more important than flags

Enjoy your day CQN, delighted that in such a short time Brendan has brought the squad to within touching distance of C/L group stages, nerves building over 24 hrs to go

I’m the same. Their team talk is actually dead easy. Play for an hour, be the better team, try to go 1-0 up. Once 1-0 up all you need is a 2nd with enough time remaining to go for a barnstorming finish. If it goes better than that they’ll be delighted of course, and if Celtic score then their job is simply to equate that goal as quickly as possible and revert to plan.

Out job is to dictate enough of the play to break that plan and get into their heads a bit of panic. Shut the game down where we can, hold possession up the park.

“I can get you a marquee signing but they’ve got to be able to press and they’ve got to be able to run. For me it’s never been about the name. But, of course, if the name is big and he can play, then great, but for me it’s about having the right profile of player who can come in.

Looking forward to tomorrow night. A lot of the nerves are being replaced by excitement at seeing the team in action. Not all nerves have been replaced of course due to the defence still leaking a bit. Gordon is on his last legs in the no.1 jersey and doesnt command his 6 yard box never mind the penalty area.

But lets score another 5 tomorrow and give us that feeling we had in the Amsterdam Arena when we ripped AJax apart.

  23. Celtic fans raise £26k in charity bid to match UEFA fine

Celtic fans have raised more than £26,000 in 24 hours as part of a bid to match a UEFA fine for waving Palestinian flags at the recent Champions League play-off clash with Israeli side Hapoel Beer-Sheva.

And big-hearted fans from other clubs, including Rangers and Benfica, as well as non-football fans, have also contributed to the cause.

The appeal, set up by the Green Brigade under the headline #MatchTheFineforPalestine, was initially set up to raise £15,000 but the target has since doubled after a glut of donations in the first seven hours saw more than £14,000 contributed.

A message on the site brands the decision by UEFA to fine Celtic over the flag display as ‘petty and politically partisan.’

The message continues: “We are determined to make a positive contribution to the game and today launch a campaign to #matchthefineforpalestine.

“We aim to raise £15,000 which will be split 50/50 between Medical Aid Palestine (MAP) and to the Lajee Centre, a Palestinian creative cultural children’s centre in Aida Refugee Camp, Bethlehem.

Part of the money raised will go towards setting up a football team at the Lajee Centre, with the aim of entering the team in the Bethlehem Youth League.

Centre co-ordinator Salah Ajarma has suggested that the team will be named ‘Aida Celtic’ to recognise the support of Celtic fans.

Ajarm added: “It will mean so much to our young people to be part of an official team, to have boots and strips and to represent the camp wearing the colours of our friends. Aida Celtic will be a source of pride for all in Aida.”

Celtic will likely learn how much the club has been fined on September 22. The previous fine the club received for fans waving Palestinian flags at a match was £15,000 – hence the initial target of the appeal.

  24. Look away now — not flag related.

Looking at the pictures on Skyscapercity for the new L/pool main stand.

Great addition to Annfield with a large increase in the number of seats but also the facilities.

They really have worked all their angles to tell a story and sell a pie.

We really are well behind in this respect.

The Main Stand desperately needs upgraded with better off field facilities.

Not the same urgency for a large number of extra seats just better ones but designed with space to expand. My thoughts would be something similar to the River Plate main stand to achieve a uniform or near uniform roof level across the whole ground.

However my main point is that we need better facillities.

We should start by improved coaching for the catering services managers.

Too many fans and not enough real professionals in their ranks.

Then some real training for the people who actually do the work.

Watching some 18 year old learning to work a till as the queue gets ever longer is not good.

The upgraded spectator facillities should pay for themselves.

I think the queues and the waiting times lose the club 30/35% of the potential revenue.

My thoughts would be a £5mill investment — plug number to try and scale the issue — in new and better facilities would pay for itself in double quick time.

BR has done his bit to get bodies in the door.

It is now PL’s bit to make sure the spend is at CP rather than the Gallowgate.

£5mill investment to include 2K m2 of accommodation to build a Kerrydale MK2.

I think the demand is there and we need to make the most of it.

Some ground works behind the JS stand would not go amiss either.

I’m an excited/nervous wreck already. Like you I just want to see Celtic in action again. I missed most of Saturday’s match but caught the first 30 mins on my mobile at South Mimms services (Lord, please let me never set foot in that place again). Even that first 30 mins was inspiring – sure it wasn’t exactly a Barcelona type performance, nor were there stunning moments of skill – but the fact that Celtic just bossed the ball and had St J chasing shadows of shadows was great to see. In the first 10 mins BT stats had Celtic possession at 90%.

Now, of course I don’t expect Celtic to be able to dictate play to such a degree in Israel but it is encouraging to see us drag the opposition all over the pitch just with passing and movement.

The game tomorrow night will be extremely nervy, excrutiatingly so…but I can’t wait for it.

    CANAMALAR

This isnae about “the permanently offended” and you know that.

    It’s about boxing clever.

I cannot think of anyone who has opposed the display on the grounds that it was wrong, that they objected to it per se.

All the negatives have been on the basis that it was done in defiance of the rules. Hence my “forlorn hope”-I suggest you google that,no offence-that we would desist.

Personally,I think the GB should have told the club what they planned to do and suggested they get their finger out their arse and challenge the legitimacy of the ruling under which a charge would be raised.

But the GB clearly don’t trust the club enough to do so. And I can see why.

The GB have given us a problem over the years, but the club have tried to use UEFA judgements against us to neuter the GB.

It has only empowered UEFA. Serious error of judgement. We are now viewed with a microscope in every game.

The GB shouldnae dae it,the club should challenge the charges.

No-one is innocent in this. And it has nothing to do with “the permanently offended”

Hope yer smashin’,btw. Get back v early October,I could do wi a laugh.

  27. McCarthy – Can’t afford him

Schweinsteiger – Won’t want to come. Apparently he has been accused of “taking the piss” at United by spending the minimum amount of time there. He’s always flying back to Germany.

Xavi – I’d just love it. However, he’s pretty much semi-retired. Don’t see the logic for either Celtic or Xavi.
