Well,I am proud to say I was in the company of soldiers of Oglaigh na hEireann tonight.

Forced the might of Britain to the negotiating table.

    I’m happy to post.By God I am.

  2. I was under the impression that flying the Irish Tricolour anywhere in Scotland might be seen by quite a large number of the local residents as a political gesture.

If this is the case should our supporters fly it at Celtic Park. It being political and all

A few stories here and there about Brits being in Palestine,Cyprus, etc.

    Why were they there?

Because they had their noses into everyone’s business in the world.

Stealing, plundering and ransacking every country they invaded.

Ireland’s finest were able for them though.

    Mags,

Are you trying to tell me on the back of a doctored Wikipedia that Britain were trying to give a helping hand to Palestine?

I couldn’t give aflying one about that. The bottom line is Britain and the majority of the world led by Israel are determined to smash a downtrodden people into oblivion..

Why are you having a dig at Ireland?

Oh,and don’t call me an ignoramus

  9. Yep and Britain sent ‘Black’ Hugh Tudor to Palestine to form the British Police force. ‘Black’ Tudor had led the Black & Tans in Ireland and he took a large number of Black & Tans to Palestine.

He later hid in obscurity in Newfoundland until his death and always refused to be photographed.

The story goes that two ‘strangers’ from Ireland arrived in Newfoundland. They went to speak to a priest, Fr McDermott. They told the priest about ‘Black’ Tudor and he talked them out of the shooting.

There was an RTE radio documentary on Tudor a couple of years ago.

The priest always refused to shake Tudor’s hand after he heard of his crimes in Ireland.

    a dig at Ireland? where?

As a Celtic supporter one must know their history no?

    Apparently you dont.

“Britain and the majority of the world led by Israel”……how about cupid stunt.. is that better?

  11. macjay1 for Neil Lennon on

U.K. helped to bring about the end of the Ottoman Empire during W.W.1.

The League of Nations mandated Palestine to the British.

And Syria and Lebanon to the French.

Its successor , the U.N. , voted to create the State of Israel in `49 (?) .

    Britain abstained.

U.S. and the Soviet Union voted in favour.

  12. Tricoloured Ribbon on

    Mags,

    Yer right.

I misread yer statement regarding Ireland.

    I apologise.

No worries mate. You pissed me off for 5 minutes :)

    Its all about Celtic

I’m annoyed at our suits and in awe of all celtic supporters today!

Truly truly celtic supporters are a phenomenon.

  14. Tricoloured Ribbon on

    Mags,

As regards the suits,I am with ye all the way.

    Sorry again bud.

I charged in there too early.

  15. Macjay,

    Why did Britain abstain?

    From Judaism Online,

Writes David Ben Gurion in his Israel: A Personal History (p. 65):

“The British did not lift a finger to stop this military invasion. They also refused to cooperate with the UN committee charged with supervising implementation of the General Assembly resolution. At the same time, the Arabs living in the district destined to become part of the Jewish state began evacuating their homes and moving to the Arab states neighboring Palestine at the orders of the Arab High Committee.”

In the midst of confusion, the rioting continued with almost 1,000 Jews murdered by Arabs in the ensuing four months.

    ****We’ve had this debate before.

    Macjay,

    Why did Britain abstain?

    From Judaism Online,

    ==========================================

Perhaps not the most unbiased of sources. :-)

    Britain was beggared after W.W.11

Her soldiers were being killed and there was no end in sight to being the meat in the sandwich.

She felt the needs to attempt to prevent a huge influx of Jewish survivors which further changed the demographic of Palestine

Ben Hecht was saying that there was a song in his heart at the death of every British soldier.

The soldiers who had liberated Belsen.

I don`t know the reason for the abstention , but I would have thought the above might have contributed to the decision.

You haven`t mentioned the murder of Arabs and their being usurped from their homes and villages.

  18. I thought that was a source you might have approved of?

Historian Martin Gilbert includes Eban’s account of what happened there in Israel: A History (p. 145):

“[In Haifa] the four members watched a ‘gruesome operation.’ The Jewish refugees had decided ‘not to accept banishment with docility. If anyone had wanted to know what Churchill meant by a “squalid war,” he would have found out by watching British soldier using rifle butts, hose pipes and tear gas against the survivors of the death camps. Men, women and children were forcibly taken off to prison ships, locked in cages below decks and set out of Palestine waters.’

A very complex situation, UEFA would have been better off not making a political issue out of the flag, imo.

Anyway, it won’t be solved here but interesting to have a read of the different viewpoints and trying to put together a fuller picture…

Incidentally the Israeli’s modelled many of their tactics against the British on IRA strategies, that involved the Chief Rabbi of Ireland and the father of a man who became the Lord Mayor of Dublin.

    But that’s for another time…

…..That reads like you are coming round to the illogicality and inequity of not allowing the Palestinian flag at UEFA events?

A protest in the car park, would have been worthless.

    ===============================================

    Joking about the source.

If that`s Abba Eban then I`m comfortable listening to what he had to say.

Again , that`s precisely why the British got out and ,perhaps , subsequently abstained in the U.N. vote.

    Intractable then , intractable now.

The issue should have NO PLACE in Celtic Park.

  21. When it comes to stand-offs and disputes, we are all acquainted with then tent-pissing quote by Lydon B Johnston – so to use it for our purpose:

    1) Do we want to be in the tent, pissing out?

DEFINITION: We stay within UEFA and participate in the CL/EL – adhere to ALL the rules regarding political demonstrations inside stadia, and attempt to persuade UEFA to change their rules.

    2) Do we want to be outside the tent, pissing in?

DEFINITION: We opt out, or, are eventually banned for persistent violation from the CL/EL – totally reject ALL the rules regarding political demonstrations inside stadia, and pursue UEFA legally to change their rules.

These are the only two realistic positions.

Seems to me that some on here want the ‘Alice in Wonderland’ alternative, forwarded by the GB and their administrative arm, The Truss:

    3) We stay in the tent and keep pissing.

DEFINITION: We piss all over UEFA, piss all over all the clubs who adhere to the rules – piss all over our own club – and piss all over the majority of the support and still compete in the CL/EL.

Does anybody with half a brain really believe that we can do this?

So GB/Truss and fellow travellers, it is time to nail your colours and consciences, as well as your flags to the mast.

What is it to be? In the words of Len Barry, it’s as easy as 1, or, 2, or 3.

  22. Tony Donnelly was right when he forecast an imminent perfidious gesture (Just Give) from the ‘flaggists and their apologists, fashioned by the Truss and delivered slavishly by the GB – it was almost as quick, slick and sickening, as the Level 5 statement immediately after Sevco’s defeat to Hibs.

Personally I reckon we should all give it a rest for a month.

Let the club decide how to proceed in the meantime,we can get all aerated after the hearing.

At the moment,we have bigger fish to fry. Big games at home and abroad,a European group draw and another few days of the transfer window.

Back to the football for me. The flag debate has occupied too much space and time as it is.

Celtic have been punished eight times in five seasons for fan misconduct.

The case will be heard on 22 September.

    ============================================================

There`s a childish assumption that Celtic will be fined.

Eight times in five seasons may well persuade Uefa that a stiffer sanction is required.

We are all hoping that we progress on Tuesday.

Will our progress be overturned by Uefa ?

Empty stadium ? Ejection from the comp.?

Do the G.B. give a damn?

    Patently they do not.

    Come on , Board.

Time to protect the interests of Celtic F.C. from the enemy within.

Agree with all you say – … and there are no “bigger fish to fry” for Celtic supporters at Celtic Park – the well-being and success of the team must not be undermined by selfish ‘back-stabbers’ with their narrow political agendas.
