Great reading so many opinions on where we are and where we’ve been in terms of quality etc.

I’d love to have players of the standard of Larsson, Sutton, Petrov and Hartson et al but how much would players of their quality cost over a year? I think a conservative estimate would be around £12m+ a year in wages for those 4 alone.

Let’s just say we did pay those sums for 4 quality players and we got to Champs league group stages. The money made from TV revenue alone is estimated to be around £20m this season so that means a gamble of £12m could potentially make an overall profit of £8m. Seems a no brainer but what player who attracts a salary of £80,000+ per week wants to play in the SPFL?

I suspect there are a few out there who are looking to top up their pensions but would they be motivated to turn it on week in week out for us in the SPFL?

On the down side though we would have to abandon our recent policy of buying young scots and young continental prospects, we wouldn’t be building a team we would just be buying short term success that could come unstuck at any given time against a motivated opposition in the qualifiers, we would then have very expensive players bleeding the club dry with no way of recouping the outlay.

I honestly don’t think sticking with the current set up for another 1-2 seasons is a risk, it’s not as if we have been setting the heather on fire in Europe on fire over the previous 6-8 seasons.

  2. Cowiebhoy Re Mc Gregor, what puzzled me, on many occasion’s he was on the bench before others, one of Ronny’s young favorites maybe, but I never seen why, except for the wonder goal in the Qualifiers last season’ btw he has improved.

    Awerabest PJ

  3. Cowiebhoy

I struggle to see why Ronny doesn’t play Armstrong in the middle especially on days when both Brown and Bitton are out.

Even if he’s persisting with 4-2-3-1 he could play him in the two or centrally in the three.

We’re definitely not seeing the best of the boy.

    Macjay

Boyata was our best player today for me.

  4. Kelvinbhoiy if you are looking in I hope things are getting a bit better, a wee prayer said for your dad today at the mass with the bishop, my own dad passed at the new year 1995 so sometimes coming up to a time like Christmas these things are always in our minds and obviously more for you and yours with it being so recent…… Always remember the good times

Good night Cqn and god bless

Given the stories about Wayne Rooney and his alleged activities in his youth, his ringtone could be “there’s no one quite like grandma”

  6. PJ

I do agree he has improved, it’s not all negative, wrong position today I thought.

Just my personal opinion, I would rather have seen Armstrong and Rogic as 2 in front of defence, with the next 3 of Forrest, McGregor and Johansen, think it would have given us far better balance.

Armstrong and Rogic, better football brains and movement in there, McGregor and Johansen, better supporting lone striker, so gives opposition more to think about ? and have a decent record in scoring from that position

Suppose just being a PlayStation manager, we did win 3 – 0, so I’ll give this one to Ronny :-))))

    Hail Hail

Your posts are always a must read, 99% about Celtic and 1% about anything else

    HT

We were the 3rd seeds in a group of 4, the 4th seeds won the group…….Europe is and always should be a bonus, if anybody thinks “we deserve it” maybe following the wrong team

    Ronny must stay ! (11 @ row stuff your 10 that’s a Hun song)

iPad off and good night fellow Celtic fans

  8. Good result today after our visit to Turkey.

Particularly pleased for Boyata and McGregor.

Boyata to me looks like a defender’s defender and so long as he doesn’t try and play like Beckenbauer,I think he will be an asset.

Having watched McGregor over last 18 months, I rate him as a decent player when played through the middle, and whilst he wouldn’t be in my first 11, he is a useful squad player.

It was also good to see Izzy come in at LB. I reckon that by next season KT will be our first choice LB, but let’s not rush him.

With the transfer window approaching, I would like to see us trim out the dead wood ( Boerrighter) plus 2/3 guys who need a change of club ( Stokes , etc) and actively promote one or two more youngsters.

How good would it be if next season we had KT, Wee Jamesy , Calum McG and one other playing in 70/80% of games?

  9. Clashcitybhoy

I am looking forward to seeing Ryan Christie in the hoops

The Bhoy has the potential to be a huge player for us, imho

Also potentially Liam Henderson, although next season may be 1 too early ?

    Hail Hail

HT – when you say “I struggle to see ” what Ronny is doing – is that a diplomatic way of saying what I think you mean? And if it is, I agree with you.

I’m up in Glasgow for New Year so I’d like to catch up with the bhoys at CQN corner on Partick Thistle day – is it really the case that a club with a worldwide fanbase will allow their most affluent customers to stand out in a carpark meeting each other, when every one of them would rather meet inside the ground, bring kids and grandkids, buy a pint a pie, and a hot dog & crisps for the kids? And most of them would be happy to spend at least £50 doing so?

    Hail hail my friend..

  11. I love CQN. Entertainment gem. Akin to appreciating FOX News pseudo intellectual debates on the merits of the American republican party. Same constructive drivel. Love you guys!

  12. PHYLLIS DIETRICHSON on 13TH DECEMBER 2015 10:40 PM

Yes but I was trying to be diplomatic :-)

How many tickets are you needing?

  13. Phyllis Dietrichson

Phyllis, you can go into the kerrydale suite if there early enough, and buy your pint and pie, usually need to be there at least an hour to hour and half before kick off to get in.some of us don’t get there until about 45 mins before kick off as supporters buses arrive, so we enjoy a meet and blether at the Coarner :-))

  14. Phyllis Dietrichson on

HT – I think I’ll be ok for tickets from the SOD bus – I only ever ask you when it’s impossible to get tickets.

  15. Phyllis.

No I owe you as you know for your incredible generosity so tell me how many you need and I’ll get them.

  16. Cowiebhoy

    I forgot about Ryan Christie.

With Europe sadly out the way, I reckon we could cut our squad size by 4 possibly 5 and not be any worse off.

I don’t know the exact size of our squad but it looks like the match day 18 , plus we generally have 3/4 injured, plus 3/4 picking up wages for nothing.

If we dumped Boerrighter, Blackett, Stokes and possibly Janko, we could sign a decent striker, promote 1 or 2 youngsters and we would be no worse off.

I also suspect that with Forrest, GMS, Stefan, Kris C , Rogic , McGregor ,Allan , and potentially Christie, all competing for three places we are probably top heavy , and it may be best for GMS to move on . Incidentally, I see Liam H as the replacement for Scott Brown, hence I don’t include him amongst those competing for a place in the 3.

Two guys, I would keep are Efe and Charlie Mulgrew. Charlie I’d keep because he can play multiple roles, and in Efe’s case, I am not sure we would get a better player who would be prepared to sit on the bench

  17. Phyllis Dietrichson on

Thanks Cowiebhoy – i’ve got no problem getting there early as I like to regale my kids with true tales of Bobby Lennox, Tommy Gemmell and Bertie Auld. You’ll be able to spot my boys easilly – they’re the ones with blood streaming out of their ears.

  18. Clashcitybhoy

Would be keeping Janko, currently out injured, but we need the back up for Lustig.

I read on hear Boerigter, still has 18months left on his deal, so may be difficult to move on ?

I do agree though we need to trim our squad

    Hail Hail and nytol

  19. GERRYFAETHEBRIG on 13TH DECEMBER 2015 10:13 PM

GFTB – thanks for your prayers mate. My dad was buried last Tuesday and whilst it has been a traumatic time our family has taken great comfort from all of the messages posted on here and cards received. My dad would have been chuffed that Celtic fans were thinking of him.

  20. Phyllis Dietrichson on

Thanks HT – three tickets would be nice, and if you could get us tickets for the Kerrydalr suite then I’ll buy the pies.

  21. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    SFTB,

So you expect to win the title, but when anyone else expects it they are displaying arrogant entitlement, erm- where did I say that?

As for the rest of it, if you can’t respond without writing war and peace then you’ve lost the argument, I mean you can’t even keep track of what you are saying, as far as I can see, you’ve decided about subjects you claim I was thinking, then on that mother of all fcuk ups you commit the father of all fcuk ups and try to advise me on my errant ways, the ones you made up for me.

But let’s go through them for a laugh

    Simplistic non- logic

You start on about Rangers as if there was any comparison to today’s situation, aye really, can you see any other Scottish club splashing anywhere near the cash needed to topple Celtic ?

Proportionally what we spent on a team to compete with rangers would more than likely put every other club out of business in today’s market. A couple of £1M players is too much so yer comparisons is naff.

    Next

Wtf has socialism got to do with anything I spoke about ?

As I said to GFTB, people turn up to be entertained, to watch the footballers so aye they should be the best paid and that’s no rocket surgery either.

If you pay peanuts you’ll get monkeys, and you’ll drop spectators and that is the vicious circle we are now in.

No intention of team building every one has accepted that there is not one player in the world that would be happy to stay with Celtic if an EPL team came knocking but Henke did, qualifying for the CL year in year out would keep players interested and improve the quality wanting to sign, spend a bit more on quality an less on experiments and I expect it would pay in more than money, but we plan to fail don’t we. Oh and Porto.

    Sop,

It is a sop a complete sop, we hardly cover the waste of money on failures and their wages ffs.

The ambition of a whore, sugar daddy’s.

    What absolute pish but expected,

Because you can’t think of any other way than what you have accepted as the only way, the only way our barely competent board have told you is the only way does not make it so.

Lenny proved there is an alternative strategy to the board monopoly or dearth of ideas for a financial strategy and he was rewarded with, remind us ? Actually don’t gonnae no.

And there are still clowns that try to claim Lennys success was PL’s doing ffs, in my expert opinion it was success in spite of PL.

Would love Lenny to break cover of the confidentiality agreement, maybe with the recent London ruling with king there may now be room to manoeuvre.

But I expect out of respect for the club as opposed to the board he won’t.

And we both know nothing of the sort, crowds have been falling since MON went, its a slow burner and they are still dropping, and people are blaming everything but the truth, the entertainment on the park is fully responsible for the drop in gate receipts.

    Anyroadup,

    That’s enough time for bawbaws

Night night n hail hail timdom

  22. eddieinkirkmichael on

This revisionist p@@@ about Lenny’s team being world beaters is so ludicrous it’s embarrassing.

  23. Phyillis

I’ll get the tickets mate so don’t ask your brother. I can’t help with the Kerrydale though I do think you’re better going for a beer in the Gallowgate! :-)

  24. Lenny’s best season Europe wise was the year that we got straight into the CL . He spent the whole close season planning for CL games we suffered abut in domestic matches but were we worried?no!

Now we are years from CL being guaranteed so what do we do ? Classic stick or twist territory and I genuinely don’t know how much we can afford or should gamble with.

What I would say is that rather than gambling on more projects I think we should give the guys we have a chance, certainly if we are sticking with Ronnie . Many players take as radon to actually deliver others never will. It would be nice to think that today was a turning point for Cifti.

  25. eddieinkirkmichael on

You want to know something? I would love our crowds to fall to what they were in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s as at least I would know that the guys around me were true fans and not glory hunters.

For years now I’ve listened to halfwits shouting abuse to our players and managers and it’s blatantly obvious that they know eff all about the realities of professional football.

I’ve sat with a few off CQN on match days and we have been astonishing at the lack of knowledge about the game from those around us.

Some of todays comments during the game were really pathetic from guys who should really know better.

I think things could be done differently at our club but the reality is we can’t change the way things are for now, as we are considered a successful club winning the league and cup over recent seasons.

I honestly believe the club has a strategy going forward, I don’t particulary agree with every aspect of the plan but they do have a strategy that ensures we don’t end up like a deid club from the south side of the city.

I’ll stick with Ronny for a while longer because the Barnes/Keane of this world wont take us forward as some of our appointments have proved in the past
