    SFTB,

So you expect to win the title, but when anyone else expects it they are displaying arrogant entitlement, why would anyone not expect to win the title this year and next for that matter, it’s nothing to do with entitlement or being influenced by the meeja as many on here accuse.

MIT made the point that over the course he expects us to win the title though some games might throw up a challenge, some games not some teams.

John Collins told us the league does not prepare us for Europe, most agree yet when people say the league is not up to much they are fed the usual crap about minnows beating giants, that is the exception not the rule yet there are plenty use it as the rule why is that ?

Like it or no, Scottish football has a long way to go before there is a real challenger to Celtic and that is why there are plenty that consider the league as inferior, you talk about being 15th of 40 something, going on history, well history does not reflect the current standards and yes we should judge ourselves on what we achieve which on the above argument and taking into consideration our European performances over the last two seasons we are not doing well at all.

We have watched our team being downgraded and that is what will make the league competitive other clubs can’t compete with our resources and it’s unlikely they ever will so the only logical way to make our league competitive is to downgrade further and there’s plenty on here will be happy with that as long as we win the title, and that’s the sad truth of where we are going. Expectation has been executed, try and better the dead teams record of most trophies and a ten in a row will do while dropping down the European rankings. We won’t be 15th for long it’s all downhill with no apparent strategy for improvement.

Very good result for us today and my 16 year old son is just back from the game. He enjoyed going on a CSC for the first time. I’ve only saw goals and Nad’s reactions and finish for his first, were very good

Reading the updates, yer man Murray Davidson’s name cropped up for persistent fouling also his fellow hun, Mclean, at it also. Two of the four Saints players who didn’t applaud out players onto the pitch at the last game of the 2012/13 season.

Ronny may not have improved us overall but our post European game results have certainly improved.

The Dortmund game is on. BT the now. They are a really good team to watch.

Comrade it ain’t the 90’s,our resources dwarf

everyone else’s in Scotland,we should be doing

better in Europe than we are,I hope RD turns it

round Europe wise, but I have serious doubts.

    ——————————————

    Fair enough.

One positive though from the European games is this – the team always look capable of scoring goals in said arena.

Obviously we are liable to concede goals as well, however the team can also be dangerous in attack.

If Ronny can get them to cut out the stupid mistakes and concentrate a wee bit more – we’ll get there.

He can be stubborn I agree, even though every game is different,so is every opposition team – he just can’t say – this is how we set out to play, and we are going to play this way every game regardless.A good manager changes things and adapts to various circumstances.

If Ronny learns from his mistakes we’ll make the breakthrough in Europe.

  13. Good win to-day and nice to see the team can do quite nicely without Scott and Nir thank you. All the lads did well with Dedryk, Craig and Nadir the pick of the bunch. Young McGregor is a talented footballer no doubt and let’s hope he continues to improve. Young James Forrest also caught the eye to-day and a crucial win now that the Dons seem to be getting a bit of momentum again. Nadir ran the line well and contributed with two nice strikes and perhaps more game time is what the guy needs.

See that Liverpool outfit in the Europa League – they qualified for the knock out stages, but they were dire and mundane team ever to play the game of football that I’ve ever had the misfortune to view.

    Dire they are, dire.

I’m not certain that I’d want to see any Celtic team play that way, even if it did mean qualification.

The head coach is not a novice he has at least 6 years experience of being a manger

He may have previous football managerial experience but at the level we are looking to be competing – i.e. Champions League – he is imo a novice. I’ve no idea if he will come good or even be given the opportunity to come good. I suspect if he achieves domestic success he will be given another chance.

Interesting to hear commentators who usually condemn celtic players as “going down easily / very little contact there/ he went to ground” repeatedly stating that O Halloran had made a mistake by not going down and getting jozo a red card when jozo slid in but made no contact.

Surely deliberately going down when you have not been touched is a dive.

Or is it only a dive if a Celtic player goes down when there is contact.

  23. Got to say I enjoyed the game today, was at it with my boy. North Stand.

Great atmosphere no issue’s apart from a flag being taken from a boy, that’s the nearest I’ve been to the GB, all boys, young lads not much older than my boy. Big bully goes in all guns blazing didn’t look good, think it could have been worse had it been older guys who may not have stepped back.

But onto other things, we do have a problem and gladly a very small section of the support, as my boy tells me the toilets at half time was full of smokers. But some within were singing a disgusting song of which I won’t go into detail, but it was about an item being on sale on e bay….

I have never heard of this song, but I can assure you, had I heard it, I would have to say something.

Let’s not pretend we are perfect, let’s stamp out vile songs, let’s get the clowns with the flares costing our club a hard earned reputation. It’s hard enough trying to keep it here without losing it elsewhere.

  24. My one major disappointment of the day was Ciftci’s celebration of his second goal. He attempted a kind of roll /somersault which was neither a roll or a somersault. Hoopy or The Michelin Man would have done a lot better.

As I expect Ciftci to score an increasing number of goals I would appeal to Efe to work with him & teach him a proper Celebration routine.

  25. Canamalar @ 4:59 pm

    “SFTB,

So you expect to win the title, but when anyone else expects it they are displaying arrogant entitlement,

erm- where did I say that?

why would anyone not expect to win the title this year and next for that matter, it’s nothing to do with entitlement or being influenced by the meeja as many on here accuse.

You can anticipate and expect but it is still not inevitable as McCoist and Pellegrino have demonstrated when failing with advantaged squads. The title is usually delivered by a combination of better squad, more resources and, therefore greater consistency over the course of a campaign. That’s why few Leicester fans feel they will win the EPL. However, every competitive race depends on competition for standards to be maintained. Usain Bolt will lose a race because his competitors improve and he has an off day or slacks off in his training. Success comes in cycles and no-one stays at the top forever. So, even without a strong Sevco, we will lose a league sometime for those very reasons. I have not called anyone out for expecting to win a league- my whole point has been about those that take no joy in doing so because it is expected (but not guaranteed, so still lose-able). While, at the same time, taking plenty of negativity from our defeats and draws, whether expected or not. Those are the posters to whom I expressed my views.

MIT made the point that over the course he expects us to win the title though some games might throw up a challenge, some games not some teams.

Both MIT and JC made sensible comments there- very much in line with what I said. Bet you both of them, even when rating the SPFL as low, will celebrate like mad come May. (I am not sure what you mean by making the exception the rule- that went over my head)

Define long way! I consider it a strong possibility within 3 to 5 years, at most, we will have a tight league race and I do not consider it will have to be an Ibrox based club that gives that challenge. BTW- I conceded that very point when I said it was based on historical achievement but, unlike you, I will recognise that, even last year, we will have earned more co-efficient points than any Celtic team from 1981 to 2000 in Europe.

Economic circumstances have downgraded our chances much more than any conscious decision by a villainous Majority shareholder or CEO or Coach has done. We did not wilfully sell FF, VVD and Wanyama- we were forced to in order to keep us financially healthy in an environment where we got occasional crumbs from the Euro table which were earned and not guaranteed, as opposed to the cartel clubs in the big 5 leagues and the emerging USSR break up nations (Russia and Ukraine) who get unearned income at 10 times our level from an accident of birth in occupying the same geographical region as Man U, Liverpool, Barca, Real, Juve and Milan, Bayern and Dortmund, and PSG and Lyon.

We have only slipped to 15th since the emergence of break up European states. Where we would not have batted an eyelid at losing to Vojvodina or Red Star, we think of Maribor as minnows but they are all ex-Yugoslavia.

Previous Celtic managers did not have to deal with Bosman economics, TV and sponsorship distortion money, or CL glass ceiling predictability. It was the Boards of 1981 to the mid- 90s that let us down because they did not face the disadvantages we face now. Scotland as a go it alone nation would rank economically way below 15th in that list of 43 countries so we are likely to slip further down because economic factors matter more now than being a mono-sport culture as we are in Scotland.

We agree about the prognosis- we just differ about the cause. With or without PL and DD, this trend and these economic factors will continue to grind Celtic down. It’s a bit like the zonal vs man marking debate. We don’t make a preference based on which method works best but on which makes blame more readily attributable. We are prepared to ship more goals if we get to identify more scapegoats….. and we like to believe that if it wasn’t for those pesky kids in the boardroom, it would be the 60s all over again.

We would all like a sweet lie to be the truth. Sure beats harsh reality.

    our current side side.”

That’s a bit of a subjective judgement and always has been. Football always has been an evolving and changing game.

In the 40s and 50s before my time, the view seemed to be that we were a good football nation- too good to even deign enter the WC tournaments against lesser foreign nations like Brazil and Argentina. Our first two forays into the 54 and 58 WC saw us get our erses handed to us. We were a parochial, short-sighted and arrogant nation with an anti-coaching outlook and it took a long time to overcome. The Scottish players of the late 50s and early 60s were very good but under achieved because of lack of preparation.

It took Jock to make that golden generation competitive.

Only in the 66 to 74 period wee we a top side.

Our 80s team is remembered fondly by no-one on the continent. Our 90s teams are not remembered fondly by us.

This side with all the foreign nationals is much better than the 90s and, I’ll get pelters for this, on a par with the 80s sides we revere. We just do not have a Paul McStay figure.
