  1. Apart from us , SJ are probably the form team in the league so that’s a great result.

Delighted for Ciftci but don’t think he fits the bill.

We have to be better than that.

Looking at the stars of games played after Euro games.

    Fantastic.

    Rather have Euro wins though.

    HH

  2. Well done Celtic another 3 points post Europe at a tricky venue on an iffy pitch in the midst of winter, a game where if the attitude and application was not there we would have drawn or lost, happy for big Ciftci that he got his goals.

  3. well said sftb

good reminder of when i co-managed an amateur team down south – bleedin nightmare

some folk seem to think its just like one of these football manager video games

    a wee prediction

for the first twenty minutes of most games celtic will ever play during my lifetime and beyond, away from home against a top 4 team – the home team will do well, be up for it, be in our faces for the first 20-25 minutes. we will then go on to win most of these games.

some nice stuff to watch in the second half making the st johnstone players do doggies.

Just did the same mate. I like Ciftci, so was happy to see him score a few today. but our little ‘wager’ just made it that much more enjoyable.

will look for you (on CQN) before the next game.

SFTB……fair point pal,I’ve not had my mends

today so I’ll give it a go,we won today because

the SPFL is a very mediocre league, we are in

European terms a very average side,in the present

future we as a club should be judged in what we do

    on the Continent imho.

Ps sorry aboot the shocking grammer and spellin.

Europe is Europe – It’s gone now, forget about it for the time being.

Winning the league is always the the main objective in my humble opinion.

Thinking back to the early 90’s and where we are now – the 5-in-a-row is well within our reach.

Nothing has been won yet, obviously, but here…you are allowed to dream.

Hopefully it shall soon become a reality.

I support our manager and our footballers in their quest to achieve victory.

thanks for that.the other players were delighted for him as seen after his first goal today.he said after game “it’s about the team “

  10. Aberdeen are super brilliant and managed by the best young Scottish manager since the oldest apprentice boy in town. Hearts are exceptional and going well, with a bright young boss. St Johnstone, managed by the brilliant whatshisname are on a world beating run … sorry, were on a world beating run.

Celtic are above them all – but are rubbish and managed by a numpty.

Anyway, it’s a third class league. Not like the world beating sensational Championship, which is the most exciting and prestigious second tier league ever in football history.

  11. Nye Bevans @ 3.43

Not sure which of my challenges you think you are having a go at because I don’t see any disagreement.

I do think you may exaggerate a bit

    SPFL-a very mediocre league??

Well it ranks around 15th of 43 in all-time achievements – only bettered by the Big 5 leagues, plus Portugal, Holland, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, Belgium, Greece, Switzerland and the Czechs. For a small nation that is still a good outcome. And even though a lot of that ranking is based on historical record, that includes a Celtic Euro season from 2013- only 2 and a half years ago.

“we as a club should be judged in what we do

    on the Continent imho.”

Well, If we don’t do well in SPFL we don’t get into Europe so the building block for Euro is SPFL achievement. If we are judging on Europe, we got to the last 32in Europa last year and last 16 in CL 2 and a half years ago. That beats anything we did between 1981 and 2001 so I cannot see us as operating at a historic low.

We have been predicting downsizing, penny pinching and the Death of Celtic since MON left in 2005. We had our highest Euro achievement on 3 occasions after he left but we were still proclaiming that we were on the slide.

Well, we have slid now, this season, and with the way the financial gap is going we may well be due for a period of less frequent Euro “success” (getting into Group stages for CL or qualifying from Europa Groups counts as success to me) but, if so, we are just back to where we were for most of our lifetime, apart from 66 to 74 (and 2 of those seasons included a first and a second round knockout)- so why are we taking less joy from Celtic now? The only different factor I can see is the absence of Rangers.

And, as for the spelling- when have I ever pulled people up about their spelling?

  12. Are the pitches getting better, is that why we’re beating teams we’d normally struggle against on Sunday at 12, away, after a long trip during the week? We’re not just winning these games either, w’ve been pretty comfortable in a lot of them

the other teams must have got considerably worse in the course of a very short period of time if they aren’t able to take advantage of the the tiredness of what I keep reading is a poor team

there has never been a celtic manager with such a lack of scottish competition.

*actually the last one did and IMHO the competition is now stronger. In the only season when the zombies challenged us during his reign we, and I say we not he, threw it away up at ICT. Played the wrong formation according too the experts on this and other Celtic sites that night.

  21. PF, how do Barca or Man Us finances compare against Celtics? Teams on smaller budgets can sometimes beat those spending more, thats the beauty of fitba. We are on the road to a treble and only the SFA can stop us.well done RD

  23. There has never been a Scottish manager with such a lack of competition? I must have dreamt that decade when Rangers used financial cheating to build a team no one in Scotland could possibly compete with. Their manager, the cardigan did really poorly in Europe despite spending a fortune that would eventually kill their club. None of the Scottish media judged him on Europe. He was judged on Scottish results. Don’t believe the hype.

“SFTB, I take it you’d be happy for Ronny to keep his job if he looses the title than ?”

Of course I would not be happy- we would have just lost a title. Again, Ronny could not survive that. But it is a very moot point because we are not going to lose the title this year- despite the predictions of our resident Private Frasers every August to September for the past 4 years.

No, I think the title pressure being sustained is still a year or two away but it will come. Whether the deid club’s fans are supporting a team in our league or not, we will lose a league again sometime in the next decade- maybe we will not even make the 10 in a row- fetishised number, but we will win this season’s title.

So, the question should be- why do we want to sack a successful domestic manager who has had one ok season (last 32 in Europa) and one very poor season. We stuck with Big Billy and Davie Hay through many seasons of Euro non-achievement.

    Nye Bevans

Your erse was not handed to you- I just think you exaggerated our poor-ish Euro standing to make it a mediocre one. 99% of European clubs would love to have our standing, our records and our history.

Now, as for “should we be losing tae Malmo and Maribor?”

Of course we should not- we are better than both teams.

But could we lose to them?- very much so and we did.

Just as we lost to Sachsenring Zwickau, Wisla Cracow, Wacker Innsbruck, Politechnica Timisoara, Rapid Vienna, Partizan Belgrade, Neuchatel Xamax, Dinamo Zagreb, Zurich, Rosenborg, Artmedia,Copenhagen, Aalborg, Hapoel, Braga, Utrecht, Sion, Karagandy, or Legia over the past 35 years- all clubs with smaller budgets than us.

We need to face our historical reality before you judge the current lot as very much wanting.

  29. People on the forum decried the manager for his team selection prior to kick off despite the reasons being fairly obvious and confirmed by Ronny himself.

For me, Ronny has improved a number of the players. He is willing to accept players making mistakes as he understands that punishing mistakes means the players are frightened to try things.

He encourages passing football. Anyone who can’t see the improvement in ball retention in games must be blind.

However, he is rigid in his system and it does leave us exposed sometimes. He also has never really had a good relationship with the players IMO.

His signings have been hit and miss.

In a nutshell he is a work in progress. I’d like to see us stick with him.

Oh and FWIW, Boyata is far, far better than he gets credit for
