Aberdeen are super brilliant and managed by the best young Scottish manager since the oldest apprentice boy in town. Hearts are exceptional and going well, with a bright young boss. St Johnstone, managed by the brilliant whatshisname are on a world beating run … sorry, were on a world beating run.
Celtic are above them all – but are rubbish and managed by a numpty.
Anyway, it’s a third class league. Not like the world beating sensational Championship, which is the most exciting and prestigious second tier league ever in football history.
Not sure which of my challenges you think you are having a go at because I don’t see any disagreement.
I do think you may exaggerate a bit
SPFL-a very mediocre league??
Well it ranks around 15th of 43 in all-time achievements – only bettered by the Big 5 leagues, plus Portugal, Holland, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, Belgium, Greece, Switzerland and the Czechs. For a small nation that is still a good outcome. And even though a lot of that ranking is based on historical record, that includes a Celtic Euro season from 2013- only 2 and a half years ago.
“we as a club should be judged in what we do
on the Continent imho.”
Well, If we don’t do well in SPFL we don’t get into Europe so the building block for Euro is SPFL achievement. If we are judging on Europe, we got to the last 32in Europa last year and last 16 in CL 2 and a half years ago. That beats anything we did between 1981 and 2001 so I cannot see us as operating at a historic low.
We have been predicting downsizing, penny pinching and the Death of Celtic since MON left in 2005. We had our highest Euro achievement on 3 occasions after he left but we were still proclaiming that we were on the slide.
Well, we have slid now, this season, and with the way the financial gap is going we may well be due for a period of less frequent Euro “success” (getting into Group stages for CL or qualifying from Europa Groups counts as success to me) but, if so, we are just back to where we were for most of our lifetime, apart from 66 to 74 (and 2 of those seasons included a first and a second round knockout)- so why are we taking less joy from Celtic now? The only different factor I can see is the absence of Rangers.
And, as for the spelling- when have I ever pulled people up about their spelling?
celtic40me on

There has never been a Scottish manager with such a lack of competition? I must have dreamt that decade when Rangers used financial cheating to build a team no one in Scotland could possibly compete with. Their manager, the cardigan did really poorly in Europe despite spending a fortune that would eventually kill their club. None of the Scottish media judged him on Europe. He was judged on Scottish results. Don’t believe the hype.

“SFTB, I take it you’d be happy for Ronny to keep his job if he looses the title than ?”
Of course I would not be happy- we would have just lost a title. Again, Ronny could not survive that. But it is a very moot point because we are not going to lose the title this year- despite the predictions of our resident Private Frasers every August to September for the past 4 years.
No, I think the title pressure being sustained is still a year or two away but it will come. Whether the deid club’s fans are supporting a team in our league or not, we will lose a league again sometime in the next decade- maybe we will not even make the 10 in a row- fetishised number, but we will win this season’s title.
So, the question should be- why do we want to sack a successful domestic manager who has had one ok season (last 32 in Europa) and one very poor season. We stuck with Big Billy and Davie Hay through many seasons of Euro non-achievement.
Nye Bevans
Your erse was not handed to you- I just think you exaggerated our poor-ish Euro standing to make it a mediocre one. 99% of European clubs would love to have our standing, our records and our history.
Now, as for “should we be losing tae Malmo and Maribor?”
Of course we should not- we are better than both teams.
But could we lose to them?- very much so and we did.
Just as we lost to Sachsenring Zwickau, Wisla Cracow, Wacker Innsbruck, Politechnica Timisoara, Rapid Vienna, Partizan Belgrade, Neuchatel Xamax, Dinamo Zagreb, Zurich, Rosenborg, Artmedia,Copenhagen, Aalborg, Hapoel, Braga, Utrecht, Sion, Karagandy, or Legia over the past 35 years- all clubs with smaller budgets than us.
We need to face our historical reality before you judge the current lot as very much wanting.

For me, Ronny has improved a number of the players. He is willing to accept players making mistakes as he understands that punishing mistakes means the players are frightened to try things.
He encourages passing football. Anyone who can’t see the improvement in ball retention in games must be blind.
However, he is rigid in his system and it does leave us exposed sometimes. He also has never really had a good relationship with the players IMO.
His signings have been hit and miss.
