Absolutely delighted for St Johnstone, who recorded one of the finest aggregate results by a Scottish club in European football in the last 30 years. My brother was speaking to a Saints player this week, who told him the successful strategy and drive came from chairman, Steve Brown, a fact which Hibernian would do well to ponder today.
Malmo’s 0-7 victory at Easter Road yesterday was chastening ahead of our game against fellow Swedes, Elfsborg on Wednesday. Celtic are in a remarkably strong position now, having produced excellent on and off-field results for the first time in the modern era, but those seven goals last night (not to mention the multitudes we shipped preseason) are a cautionary tale. It’s also worth remembering that Rangers decline into liquidation was precipitated by Champions League elimination at the hands of Swedish opposition two years ago (“Larsson has scored”). Wednesday presents a huge challenge.
As soon as I heard the stadium announcement on Tuesday I knew there was trouble in store from Uefa. The second pyro punishment will lead to a heavier fine. Celtic’s statement yesterday advised of matters of concern to Glasgow City Council Safety Advisory Group, who issue stadium safety licence, regarding a whole range of issues (overcrowding, lateral movement, moshing, body surfing). What to say about 131 broken seats? Ouch.
The club and Green Brigade (whose members occupy only a part of section 111) have met and we carry on as normal for now. Question is, can either control everyone in the section? I hope so but it’s a big ask. All it takes is one off-message person keen to ‘stick it to the man’, and there’s a long season ahead. Place your bets, folks.
Our thoughts are with Paul Lennon and the Thai Tims after the news that one of the boys who sang on the Celtic videos died in a road accident while another is critically ill.

bournesouprecipe18:29 on26 July, 2013BBC tea time special……………………….Let’s go after the Catholic Church *again*
Pretty sure i read on here a wee while ago Media House were employed by BBC Scotland.
What a difference it makes to see BBC have four women in the studio commentating on athletics.
If Tony Watt had more game time last season he would be fine for Wednesday IMO

You represent everything unacceptable in a so called celtic supporter.
You are unquestionning to those in authority – and criticise anyone who dares to question.
If people dont agree they should “go and watch thistle” – no its you who is the antipathy of a celtic supporter.
Your arguments are simply stupid and show no intellect. To paraphrase – you cant qualify with your two best players uninterested. Well I tell you what you definately cant qualify without having your best two players full stop.
You then make up a figure of £10M a year – £10M WHAT? What on earth are you talking about?
You then say football second and supporters 3rd??? What on earth is that? Did Jock tell lies when he said football without the fans is nothing. Tell you what numpty – if you have no customers do you have a business?
You then basically say the only way that celtic can remain competitive is not to spend any money – well give that man a cigar – what amazing logic.
Then you do a jam tomorrow. Celtic have taken in £45M extra in the last 6 months – but thats clearly not good enough. Hey idiot – how does that square with you £10M nonesense.
Do you know what I dont think I have ever been angrier with a post on this site. Arrogant and idiotic – thats what you are.

I have only attended one match so far this season, the one away to Cliftonville.
The Lhaddie didn’t get an outing.
Therefore I haven’t seen him kick a ball yet.
He has not had a glowing critique on here so far.
Not sure if that’s a good thing.(:-)

BigYinMilan,
I’m rarely in Scotland. However if you are ever in Western Canada give me a shout.
Cheers

God now I am hearing from loads of you that we are running at a loss???
What on earth are some of you – bank junkies?
Rogic will need to really toughen up to make it.
TT
Its a simple question really.
Are we weaker or stronger than we were a few weeks ago going into this critical game.
If we are weaker, why?

‘Oh and for all the talk of books I went on to amazon to get the one recommended by South of Tunis and ended up buying a terry eagleton book on reason, faith and revolution. HAd an hour with it on the Kindle. It’s very good so far.’
Yeah, but who would win in a fight, Terry Eagleton or Alasdair MacIntyre?
The Green Brigade find ourselves
disappointed to hear that Celtic Football
Club has deemed it necessary to release a
statement which we feel unfairly demonises
our group as well as the Celtic supporters
who sit in our section in 111. Following
amicable discussions held behind closed
doors it seems entirely counter-productive
for such a statement to be released.
The group held discussions on Wednesday
night with representatives of the club and
outlined our position regarding the safety
concerns that have been raised in Celtic’s
statement. It was made clear that the Green
Brigade were not responsible for any
pyrotechnics which were used during the
match against Cliftonville at Celtic Park and
had no knowledge of any fan’s intention to
use them. We accept that it took place in
our section however and as a group we will
strive to deal with the matter and have
warned fans on our website against such
behaviour in 111. We also demonstrated our
willingness to work with the club regarding
the mosh pits and crowd surfing which is
concerning the safety team. It is however
worth noting that the claim made regarding
131 broken seats is an exaggeration. Several
of our members visited the empty section on
Wednesday night following the meeting, and
whilst it was evident that there was
accidental damage, 131 broken seats
appeared to be an embellishment. While this
damage is regrettable it is totally accidental
and simply a product of our sometimes
boisterous style of support – intentional
damage would not only be idiotic but it
would not be tolerated.
A key safety concern mentioned was that of
overcrowding. The group has worked with
the club previously on this issue and urges
those who do not have tickets for our
section to stay away. We do our best to self-
police the area in this regard however that
has proven increasingly difficult, as Celtic
this season had refused to allow us to
control who has tickets for our block. If we
do not know who has tickets for the area,
and given that the stewards have proven
their incompetence in this matter, it is
extremely unfair to lay sole responsibility
for this matter at the feet of the group. We
have repeatedly requested that we have a
regular stewarding team with whom we can
build up a working relationship with in the
hope that this will help with the issues
raised.
Whilst the representatives of our group
were willing to discuss the concerns that
the club had, the club were extremely
hesitant to discuss some of our concerns
regarding the continual harassment of
Celtic supporters. The Green Brigade have
demonstrated a willingness to work with
the club which is why we find it regrettable
that the club have chosen to publicly
castigate our section, and by doing so have
invited the media to attack the Celtic
support once more. At a time when Celtic
supporters are being routinely harassed,
intimidated and dragged through the courts
we feel that this should hold greater
priority than concerns over lateral
movement.
It appears that Celtic Football Club are far
more eager to publicly attack Celtic fans
than they are to defend them.
I think you could do with a wee lie down neganon.

‘What agent or decent player in their right mind would opt for Celtic right now when their EPL gravy train might come in if they hd out for another 4 weeks ??? Anyone who thinks different is smoking something for sure.’
#############
Maybe one who thinks ‘If an EPL team don’t come in for me and Celtic get fixed up before I make up my mind, I might be left on the shelf’.
Or maybe one who sees VW and GH moving to the EPL and might see us as a stepping stone.
was gutted to hear hibs now hav the unwanted record defeat for a scottish team in europe. previously held by the bosch fc 1872, a 12-4 defeat by eintract frunkfart. still, they hold the record defeat in a national cup final on these shores.

Good luck to Gary Hooper, he has gone to a terrific football club. Big loss to us mind you, one of the best goalscorers I’ve ever seen in the Hoops. Where oh where are the Scottish bhoys of old though? We do not know how Johnny Russell would have worked out, though a similar player to Hooper, but over the years we either produced good goalscorers, John Divers, John Hughes, Stevie Chalmers, Bobby Lennox, Kenny Dalglish, Vic Davidson, Lou Macari, and I will give a mention to Brian McLaughlin who lived for Celtic and would have scored loads, or signed them, Joe McBride, Willie Wallace, Harry Hood and Dixie Deans et al. Tony Watt may well be the next on that list if he can push on this season as I hope he can. If he is not quite there, then we will have to sign an attacking forward from somewhere, to help those already here. We are up against the new EPL contract now so that won’t be easy, but when you think how many great forwards have came through those gates, well, can’t be impossible can it?
Robert Tressell
Glad you are enjoying TE….He weighed in on the Dawkins atheism debate, and I thought was pretty good in that one…
as for who would win between in a scrap between him and AM…. Herbert McCabe could have taken either of them … I know he was English, but them Dominican’s were tough!

If you are in Ottawa, you aren’t far from TO, and there are a few good lads on here at the TorontoCSC who would always make you welcome

Aye, it’s funny how some things stick in your mind. He’s one of the ones I remember really well. I left in 1965, so was a couple of years ahead of you and Bigyinmilan.
My son just meet McCoist in the local chip shop…he said it took all his will power not to ask him if he was getting a pie supper.
Thanks Mike in Toronto.
Haven’t been to Toronto for some years now. Nice town including for business.

They’re certainly a highly unlikely source to be giving a Catholic slant on any issue, controversial, contentious or otherwise.
!!Bada Bing!!
Close but no cigar, with height of the defenders , Sammi up top with Stokes off him Commons off the left side.?
Robert Tressell – you got any book recommendations for books on central America or Mexico? – I just finished Cormac mcarty’s The Crossing’ (jebus nearlt cried at the end – watching andy murray win at wimbledon dried me out). I checked out Latin America on Amazon but didn’t know where to start. The lawless plains of mccarty’s mexico look interesting !

In times gone past I would have agreed with you about tonight’s BBC headline story, however, as a practising Catholic I believe that the Catholic Church today needs to be purged of paedophile priests and it has been brought home to us in the past few years that our hierarchy have showed absolutely no willingness to do so. Once uncovered these criminals have been sent away to “reflect”, to “carry out research” and for “treatment”. After a suitable period when they have been “cured”, on many cases, they have been reassigned to other duties, transferred to other parishes without the laity being warned or looked after by the church when they should have been occupying a prison cell. These people are criminals and should be treated as such.
Let’s not blame the BBC. We all loved it when Mark Daly exposed the Huns EBTS scam. We can hardly complain when a credible journalist turns his focus on other areas of scandal. Remember, he had a Catholic priest venting his frustration about the Church’s lack of willingness to deal with these criminals.

Hedging of bets …….
Money first …fans second
Jmccormick – we have taken in £45M EXTRA in the last 6 months and got rid of big wages and lots of players. Yet we are STILL being told that we might go bust if we spend any money.
I am absolutely furious with the lies and spin (yours included).
Added to this the GB are right – the Celtic Board have NO respect for the support and lambast us at every turn (except when they want our money).
We are simply being lied to and exploited – why on earth did I renew my book.
Why dont you all turn up at RBS every saturday and cheer the balance sheet.
Pathetic, embarrassing, sychophantic todies.

Terrific? Maybe
About one thousandth as terrific as the club he just left.
Much bigger wallet?
Definitely. We might have trousered close to £40m but we ain’t spending like Norwich will spend.

Do you know Jimmy Fitzpatrick over in Victoria?
