Still pathological roulette football 10 years on

211

You and I have seen it dozens of times.  The manager rests half the team in a cup game against lower league opposition and those who participate somehow play as though the game was less important.  Whose fault is that?  Nothing gives out signals that we are not at fully strength like rotating seven players from the starting line-up.

Players are not machines; they cannot climb the mountain every time as though this time was the most crucial.  That is why systems need to be robust enough to see them through mundane days.  Ange Postecoglou was right to rest so many ahead of an important European game.  This act, however, rendered him unable to convince those selected that their adrenalin should be pumping at full throttle.

The angry manager routine from the touchline, and no doubt at halftime, was enough of a top-up to comfortably see the game over the line.  I doubt he was truly angry, as he has seen as many of these type of games as we have.

That ball from Reo Hatate to Jota for the second goal is totemic of how Celtic are playing now.  In any season of the last 10, that ball would have been carried into the final third before circulating down either flank looking for an opening.  This ability to exploit the space behind defenders separates the talented from the earnest.

If you wander down Buchanan St there’s a good chance you will see someone doing a Find the Lady trick, where a queen card is shuffled around a board with two others.  The object is to not take your eyes off the card until you make a decision (you will still lose).  Refereeing can be a bit like that.  When an offence occurs that you decide is punishable with a card, keep your eyes on the player until you have sight of his number.

Referee Steven McLean decided to book the Raith player whose arm met the ball for Celtic’s late penalty.  Steven, however, let his eyes wander off the already booked Sean Mackie, who handled the ball, to the uninvolved Ross Matthews.  A second yellow would have been harsh for Mackie, but still………..

10 years ago today the “they are going to crash and burn” predictions we made of Oldco Rangers for 8 years came to fruition.  Chairman Craig Whyte stood on the steps of Ibrox to say he was putting the club into administration.  Subsequent attempts to negotiate with HMRC failed.  The basket of assets were sold to a consortium and administrators Duff and Phelps wrote a letter of comfort for Companies House to permit the Newco, which had applied for membership of the SFA as Sevco Scotland, to adopt a similar trading name to Oldco: “Rangers”, would be the name.

There were dozens of ways Rangers fall from perpetual debt and losses could have ended, liquidation was not inevitable.  Pain was, though.  You live within your means, or you face consequences.

Newco are approaching their 10th year in business and have yet to live within their means for a single season.  Like Oldco, they are playing roulette football, with no more than a gamblers chance of leaving the table with their shirt.  Like Oldco, I predict they will crash and burn.  It is as though there is something pathological going on.

This is not a songs debate before before any Wagner’s or Bach’s wade in. 👍

“Irish tosh” is true, if sung by frauds and cowards.

Who wants to sit at a fitba game in Scotland listening to cheap punk frauds sing songs about a post conflict society that wants peace for its people, and sung for 96 minutes of every game??

Celtic supporters singing about ancient IRA battles when these same supporters don’t have the balls to empty a Celtic board controlled by Irish Tories who hate the IRA??

    Huns are huns.

If being Green huns is a response to Blue/Orange huns then who is correct?? Who wins??

Huns sing bigoted songs because they are huns.

Celtic supporters sing about the IRA to make supporters with no balls sound tough, but when the chips are down, Res 12, 5WA, Same Price oldfirm tickets, Celtic PLC, Rangers PLC, SFA, SPFL, Scottish media, ScotGov, Masonic lodge, OO, etc, all know that Celtic supporters are cowardly frauds, so why sing about the IRA? If it wasn’t for Gerry Adams, Martin McGinness (RIP) and many other countless heroes then there would hardly be any Irish folk left on the island of Ireland today imho, but when the conflict was ongoing, the backing from Celtic supporters for the IRA was 100% justified as we supporters support a club who was born out of the fallout of the genocide against innocent Irish folk, our ancestors, in 1840’s Ireland. But now there’s no conflict on Ireland after the “Trouble’s” and the Good Friday Peace Accords of 1998, don’t these people deserve to live in peace and foster reconciliation?? And yet, across the sea in Scotland, Celtic supporters who cant rid themselves of a Tory Irish PLC, sing about the IRA as though there was still a conflict ongoing, or ‘look at us’, songs sung by supporters who don’t have the balls to empty an Irish Tory led PLC board?? That is tosh! To sing rebel songs to look tough, is tosh! To sing about the heroes from the ‘roll of honour’ for 96 minutes at evey Celtic game, then help the PLC to stitch up the same club lie £200 million heist by David Murray on the sly, is tosh! To sing Irish rebel songs because big ugly hun billy sings OO songs, is tosh! To sing about “joining the IRA” and allowing an Irish Tory PLC to hand you your ass at any and every showdown, is tosh!

Young huns supporters who weren’t around at the same time the IRA was must think “this IRA must’ve been a bunch of easily mugged idiots, if the dim Tims sing aboot thum??”

If dim Tims sing about the IRA, the IRA couldn’t have had much about them? Said a stranger passing by scratching his heid!!

The GFPA were what guid decent oppressed folk from the conflict zone had been praying for for 800 years.

For proven Celtic supporting bottle merchants to constantly sing about a conflict that they would’ve ran away from, is tosh!

Scottish fitba gemmes polluted yes, polluted, with “Irish” conflict songs when the conflict survivors want to enjoy peace, is tosh, Irish tosh!

The songs should be sung by folk with balls, away, from a fitba gemme, not for 96 minutes of every Celtic game, by Celtic supporters who continually prove that they’ve no balls, no balls to sack an Irish Tory PLC, and no balls to sack a local govt full of hate for Celtic, etc, etc, etc.

When these types of Celtic supporters sing these wonderful irish songs, then the songs are reduced to Irish tosh! Because they are sung by cowardly frauds! That is tosh! FACt!

Gerry McNee is the only journalist who who wanted the stabbings of Celtic supporters to stop! FACt!

Gerry McNee is the only journalist who expressed disgust at Rangers fans doing the ‘bouncy, bouncy’ as it was celebrating paramilitary punishment beatings! FACt!

Gerry McNee said that Fergus McCann was wrong to promote ‘Bhoys against bigotry’ as there wasn’t, and had never been any bigotry at Celtic fc, and he, McCann, was only doing this to divert from his failure, a 7th title in a row to Rangers, as McCann’s sacking of Lou Macari had changed nothing despite the considerable £financial backing for Macari’s replacement.

Gerry McNee was correct to call,….

“Soldiers Song, Billy Boy’s, BOTOB, Derry’s Wall’s, The Broad Black Brimmer, Build My Gallows, etc, etc, as musical instruments of hate, which prolong post conflict tension in Scotland, whilst Irish people are trying to build peace, and that this Irish tosh, all of it, should be nowhere near a Scottish football game, as these two clubs have marvellous songs about their teams so why the need for all of this Irish tosh?”

    Where does it stop?

Both sets of fans led by no mark supporters leaders, and PLC board’s who couldn’t give a toss how many of these fans are stabbed to death, as long as they PLC get richer.

Maybe Gerry McNee is close to someone who was murdered as the drums of Irish tosh banged loud in the background? Banged louder by proven cowardly frauds. FACt!

    Who knows?

Everybody knows the Celtic supporters are treated as, and looked upon as dim Tims.

No amount of songs, Irish tosh songs especially, will camouflage that FACt.

    What to do?

  3. To those who take issue with my ‘pragmatic’ appraisal of why we were right to ‘keep our distance’, that’s fine, that’s your view, you’re entitled to it. There are minds I won’t change – that is not my aim in any case. I give my honest view!

Celtic acted in concert with the majority of clubs in Scotland during the farce that engulfed them all. No other club saw fit to take things to another level when ‘the dust had settled’, therefore to pursue anything to do with so-called “integrity’, Celtic would have needed to ‘plough a lone furrow’. UEFA and the football authorities in Scotland decided that they would take no action against a club lying in the Administration ‘knackers yard’, and soon to be dismantled for scrap & thereafter Liquidated. Any action by Celtic would have been subject to ‘the law of diminishing returns’ – the die was cast’.

I stick to my opinion, which appears to have been shared by the Celtic board at the time, and as far as we know, that is still the case.

We won the war on integrity. Our hands were clean and for the next nine years we cleaned-up football- wise & financially, whilst Ibrox stagnated in a self-inflicted mess. No one who has ‘won a war’ ever hankers to go back and fight extra & unnecessary battles.

The players were, Bonner, Boyd, Grant, Maestro, and Nicholas.

  17. Been re-visiting the 1977 Scottish Cup Final.

Celtic were on for the double and it was 4 years since the two teams had met in the final. Jock Stein had rebuilt his team after his near fatal car crash with two of the most audacious signings in history. One-man club, Hibs legend Pat Stanton was persuaded to come to Glasgow and he slotted in majestically as sweeper. Secondly Stein shocked the whole of the country by signing ex Ranger Alfie Conn from Spurs, Conn had been the pin up boy at Ibrox and it was unthinkable that he would sign for us. Add to this the fact that Kenny Dalglish and Danny McGrain were at the absolute top of their game and Stein had made another two astute signings in Joe Craig and Andy Lynch. Rangers were managed by Jock Wallace and had won the treble the previous season. Celtic should have won by more than one goal, there was really only one team on the park, Celtic had more flair players, Paul Wilson, to add to the aforementioned. Conn was a big protagonist in the 1973 final and four years later he stepped up to the plate for us! Our muscle was in the form of Roy Aitken and big Shuggy to combat the kickers on the other side. They had a defensive midfield with Hamilton, McDonald and Watson, with their sole tactic being get it to McLean to cross for one of the two Dereks. As Paul referred to, part of the Ibrox DNA, the gamblers sent on Robertson for the last twenty minutes as an extra forward to try to sneak an equaliser but Celtic held strong and big Jock didn´t even make a change. To win the double, under Stein´s circumstances, after your rivals had just won the treble really was the Stein swansong. His 25th trophy as manager as well. Quite simply he proved himself that season to be the greatest scottish manager of all time, bar none, in the modern game. After all he had previously achieved and would do relatively well with Scotland later as well. Incidentally, the attendance at the 1973 cup final was over 120,000 and the 1977 final only had 54,000 spectators. The fact that the game was live and it was a rainy day may have affected the attendance but it is a huge drop. Unfortunately Stanton and more importantly Dalglish were not there the next season, however that would allow the two unused subs from that 1977 final, Tommy Burns and Johnny Doyle to break their way into the team.

What has the GB knowledge of Ireland have to do with the fact that last year the GB protested in the car park for six months against the PLC frauds, then they bottled it and continued to financially ££££back the PLC frauds, then the GB sing about Irish rebellion, after bottling it from financially rebelling themselves against the PLC frauds?

    Don’t you see the hypocrisy?

Why was the Maestro, Grant, Bonner, Boyd, Nicholas all pish at the same time, yet John Collins was brilliant for Macari? and when the new manager came in, he praised to the heavens those who’d downed tools, and tried to sell Collins who wasn’t in the clique trying to get rid of uppity Macari, Collins told the new manager, and Fergus McCann, to fk off, as John Collins wanted to play for Celtic, not pishy Derby, or Middlesbrough.

The new manager kept the clique of, Bonner, Boyd, Grant, Maestro (who was nearly done, and Nicholas, and the sacking of Luigi by a back stabbing clique saw the next 3 titles go to Ibrox, including the hun 9 in a row.

The huns being allowed to pretend the old club didn’t die has left Scottish football devoid of integrity.

It’s just a world of make believe. A fantasy land. A joke.

    —-

You can’t reason people out of a position that they haven’t reasoned themselves into.

The Ibrox people will believe what they want to believe and nothing Celtic, or, its support do, or, say, will change it one iota.

On the overall thing – sh** happens in the world, but we can’t let it define us. In business, and Celtic is a business, companies go bust day after day. Many have employed ‘dodgy, practices and caused negative outcomes for other properly run companies. If these companies used all their efforts to exact revenge, because that is what some here really want, they would be ‘taking their eye off the ball’ & neglecting their own business.

We have seen the pantomime that billionaire Mike Ashley is now involved with the Ibrox club. Year after year of wading through thick legal treacle, and still nothing settled. That could have been Celtic also, if we had ‘taken the bait’ that some on here are suggesting…..and for what? For someone to say “yes Ibrox are naughty boys and shouldn’t be pretending that they are the same club”

The Ibrox brand descended to the nearest point of extinction that will ever happen. Four years in the lower-league wilderness & nine years of nothing whilst we ‘cleaned-up’. There will always be a ‘Rangers’ in whatever form – the size of their constituency in Scotland endures that.
